Ciao Gregor! Your itinerary is certainly one of the most complete, but as you well know, Italy is all to be seen, only in the North could I mention places like Lake Orta, Valle D'Aosta, Trentino, Liguria and its hinterland, the Monferrato... Not to mention the thousand small towns, each with its own works of art and historical buildings... Then there is Sicily, Puglia, Sardinia, the Marche... I live in Italy for 43 years and I still haven't managed to visit it all. There are 20 regions, you would need to make 20 trips and dedicate at least 15 days each to see at least 20% of each region.

I'm italian and I appreciate your videos, bravo! Even if two weeks are very little time and you risk to pass your journey on train, running from a instagram spot to another... but ok, better than nothing, at least you'll have an aperitivo of what Italy can offer! I suggest to focalize to one/two regions and explore leisurely off the beaten tracks: to have an idea just google Siracusa, Lecce, Urbino, Taormina, Volterra, Ascoli, Matera, Perugia, Polignano, Ferrara, Mantova, Viterbo, L'Aquila, Bergamo, Aosta Treviso, Piazza Armerina, Merano, Padova, Stintino, Stromboli, Trieste, Palermo, Siena, Pompei...

correction: the pantheon has the largest UNreinforced concrete dome. Romans knew how to make concrete but didn't use rebars and the fact that it's still standing is really remarkable, what they did back then with very limited technology is amazing

We are going to Italy for 3 weeks in October and this is a great guide. We are spending more time in each city and taking some day trips. We are arriving in Rome and departing back home from Milan. 4 Days in Rome, 3 days in Naples/Pompeii, 3 days in a Tuscan Farmhouse, 5 days in Florence with day trips, 3 days in Venice and 3 days in Milan. I hope we didn't mess anything up! Thank you for all of our guidance!

I’d suggest instead of heading back to Florence, take the day and go to montecatini terme. Chill. Take a soak and a massage. Eat well. See other folks (Italians ) on vacation. Similarly, if ending in Venice, take a recovery day and stay in montegrotto or abano terme , waters massage, food, garden walk, chill. (Recover). If you have to, go a few kilometers and you’re in Padua. Basilica of S Antonio, etc. Last, would be nice to have alternatives to high season madness. Instead of the crowds in the uffizi or the David in the accademia (don’t get me wrong, they are really worthwhile seeing, but you might not get a ticket, the crowds can be offputting and high season) consider Medici tombs (and the graffiti drawings) for Michelangelo and the frescos in the convento d San Marco by Fra Angelico. The thing about seeing frescoes, they never travel, they don’t move. And you’re seeing them as designed in the original site. For Vatican, see if you can get a garden tour. If it’s high season, the museum conga line can be impossible even with the Sistine chapel. What alternatives would you suggest? For me I would tell the tourist to spend a little more time in Saint Peter‘s basilica itself. Go to the grottoes underneath. If you were athletic, consider climbing the dome.. liquid as you want to see in the Vatican museum, consider the capitoline museum, or the national Roman museum in the baths of Diocletian. If it’s the Renaissance palace, feeling, or baroque, and the paintings, skip the Vatican and its hordes, and go to. Galleria Doria-Pamphilj, (not the villa with its gardens)or the Galleria Colonna. Or the national Gallery of “antica” art in palazzo Barberini. Venice… unique. there are wonderful villas in the Veneto like the Villa MASER but no substitution

I did something similar to this last November. Flew into MXP(Milano) and stayed there for one day. Went and viewed the Last Supper painting in the evening and walked around and ate near the Duomo. Next day I got on a train to Torino. Stayed there for 2 days. Walked around, ate and went to the Egyptian museum. Then to Genova for 2 days. I loved it, Moda 21 for dinner, ummm. The aquarium, the port at night. Took a long train ride past Cinque Terra down to La Spezia. Had lunch there and got back on a train to Bologna for 3 days. What a beautiful city. Next was Firenze for 6 days. I had an American Thanksgiving dinner at a cafe called Melaleuca. American/Australian owners. Went to a classical music concert one night in a church. It was like being back in the 1600-1700's. Amazing. From there I ended my solo trip in Trastevere, Roma. Spent 3 days there. Did the Vatican museum, walked 10 miles covering the major historical attractions and aimlessly roaming in Roma. Flew out of FCO(Roma). It was a lot of moving around till I got to Firenze. I wish I had more time in Milano. I'm headed to Ortigia and Palermo in October. Taking the InterCity Notte train from Roma to Siracusa. It will be my 3rd trip to Italy. Northern Italy (Italian Alps, Verona, etc) will be visited in 2026 during the Olympics. Full trip is Prague, Roma, Sicilia, Istanbul.

In Milan, the milanese with veal isn’t the cotoletta, sometimes costaletta… with a bone and pounded as thin and large as an elephant’s ear, orrecchio d’elefante. Bergamo polenta con osei, either the savory with game birds or the imitative sweet. (I love Trieste as well as Turin.but most tourists aren’t with me)

I went to school in Pisa. About 50 years ago. But I can definitely recommend if you're in Tuscany go to Luca and Vinci as in Leonardo da Vinci. I would go in the winter which is actually when I went to school there. Dress in layers. You won't be disappointed. I'd love to go back to Vinci. It's just totally charming little town.

I have already been to Florence and Rome a few times. I got a cheap flight this winter flying into Florence with a cheap hotel there, so I'm planning to use that as my base, and take day trips each day to Venice, Modena, Bologna, San Marino, and Pisa. Still looking for a few more day trips since I'll be in Florence for 9 days. Skipping Milan because I already have a flight booked to there for next summer.

Thank you for this video. I do know it’s hard to pick and choose when there are so many beautiful places to visit in one trip. However, when visiting Naples a trip to Pompeii, which is the most amazing archaeological place is so worth it, even if one has been there before. Naples looks great in your video, I only drove through it from the dock to Pompeii and thought it dirty and unattractive. Guess I need to give it another look. New subscriber.
