Interesting that Williams decision making and issues of forcing the ball were casued by playing from behind. Same criticisms of Justin Fields,

I don't think that you actually watch Penix film. If you did you could elaborate on this so called concern with anticipation and footwork. First off, every piece of context matter when searching for the truth. Nowhere in the history of the sport has a guy led college in passing in a two year span while throwing high level difficulty passes to the sideline which are often covered, while being near un sackable, all the while getting rid of the ball quicker than most college QB's. Quite frankly that points to a strength in BOTH of those categories you named as concerns, and at the same time you wouldn't elude to those being actual concerns of you and seemingly everyone else's "top two quarterbacks" in CW and Maye. It would be actually near impossible to consistently put up numbers that win games if you struggled with those two things and played the style of play Penix did. Anticipation comes through pre-snap recognition, progressions post snap, and throwing someone open or rather throwing with touch. That's literally Penix's trademark. He's the fastest progression mover on tape by a mile followed by Nix and Daniels. CW and Maye are very slow through progressions and you can tell it's because they rely on what they can do when the play breaks down. This also reflects in how long they hang onto the ball as CW goes beyond 3 seconds (A good litmus for NFL clock) at just under 50% of his drop backs. Maye is even worse as the class leader at over 50% of the time. This is also where footwork ties in on tape. Drake Maye's is actually horrendous like really bad... Watch Maye tape and take a shot each time he drifts in the pocket during his drop back, especially to the side he wants to throw to, and you'll die of alcohol poisoning. Caleb's feet are moving constantly as he sits on reads for too long, avoids progression, hitches too many times, and is very indecisive on reads. This may lead to big scramble plays in the NFL like it did in college from time to time, but it will be punished just look at Johnny Manziel. Penix reads the defense hyper fast diagnoses the player he needs to hold in place, or which defender he needs to read, and he gets the ball out quick, throws with anticipation to a guy who wasn't open initially or just wasn't open at all, and he nails it time and time again. Penix has an NFL level clock in his head, is efficient with his feet (otherwise he wouldn't be elite at avoiding sacks), and his playstyle is entirely predicated on throwing with anticipation. CW and Maye don't have that level of cerebral play yet, they don't show fast decision making which points to defense reading, and Maye especially is entirely agitated and uncomfortable in the pocket for at least half the game. If I had a top five it'd go, 1 Penix, 2. Daniels, 3. Williams, 4. Nix, 5. Travis.

Oy. I don't have access to college tape, but I *do know_ how sometimes stats could mean play-calling, QB tendencies or receivers not getting free. I have too many favorite examples in the NFL. Goff & Cousins both love the highly structured offenses they've been in for the past 3 years. I have no idea if the Falcons understand this. Cousins threw 2 INTs for instance *_during_* the record-breaking comeback against the Colts. The reason? He was throwing to the route - blindly, but JJ was shaken & sat out those 2 plays. That's how blindly Cousins throws to the route. The downside is that this is because both those QB are _terrible_ at handling the kind of pressure that comes when plays *don't* go as planned. Tua has the same problem. The guys that handle that pressure better tend not to do well under too much structure. Then there's play-calling. McDermott can't handle stress & gets stressed easily. He takes over *all* the play-calling for the Bills when stressed & when in his fight or flight mode calls The Simplest plays, the main one on offense being "hike the ball, wait for Allen to figure something out." This is why he's left to play hero-ball so much. Same with Mike McCarthy which is why Dak has to play hero-ball less often, but always in clutch games. Then there's Justin Fields. I can not stress how much the play-calling *under Eberflus* has affected his holding onto the ball. Everyone says "it's because he can't read defenses. But the footage shows otherwise. If one goes back & sees his college play (his _can_ be found) he is making all the throws he supposedly can't for the Bears. Except he makes them for the Bears. The tape of Fields' 21 INTs show Darnell Mooney deflecting passes that hit him in the hands, receivers falling down etc. Starting in '22, things change. For most QBs holding onto the ball is like when Wentz did it. All him. But for Fields, it's a choice of leaving it for the defense to run it back for 6 or running with it. In one video of half a game there are at least 5 plays where kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJrMfGVni998ldE pass-rushers are allowed through 100% unimpeded. Either the o-line ignores their existence or we see something like what happens at 22.45. I can't even find play this bad on footage of draft busts. So yeah, a LOT of interpretations are biased. "How about yours?" That's not what I'm here asking. Really, this is a long-winded way to 1) point out that it's not an Exact Science & 2) if I didn't link that video, you wouldn't be able to see what I'm talkin' 'bout. Hint-hint. I don't get too caught up in what others say. even when I agree with others, some of us see what others miss. But please, if you Can Point To what's being missed, *I'd* be interested. As you can tell, I'm analytical. I just don't know where to find this stuff.

I could see teams like Denver or Dallas taking Nix if he is available in the teens or 20's in 1st round, because right now now Denver has no true QB & Dallas would have a reliable QB on the bench since Dak will probably walk come 2025 with the amount of money he'll be demanding as a FA

Please...He had the best defense in the country, one of if not the best OL in the country and talent everywhere. He's an above average QB at best and honestly shouldn't be picked in round 1. Why do we know this? He consistently throws in to double coverage in every game. Watch the tape it doesn't lie. You can get away with that in college but in the NFL those are INTs. In the biggest game of the season at Penn State who had a good defense themselves what did Michigan do to win the game? Relied on their defense and running game. At one point they ran the ball 32 straight times. That tells me they didn't believe in JJ to actually win the game for them on the road against a good defense. Well guess what you play good defenses each week in the NFL and only have half at home. I think he'll struggle and the GM who overdrafts him gets fired in 2 years for wasting a first round draft choice.

You don't get why people have Maye lower? Really.....Don't judge this guy higher because he's big. I suggest you watch more tape. This kid misses easy short throws consistently. In the NFL that can't happen. Quite frankly he is nowhere near ready to start in the NFL. Watch his last game against NC State. Total garbage. Wouldn't surprise me if this guy drops like a stone. I've watched a lot of tape on him that's on youtube. I smell bust.

@@BobRoss-wm3lc Excuses. NFL doesn't allow for them. Think of this. Caleb Williams in two years for USC didnt have a good OL. In those years only one guy was drafted and he went in the 7th round. His RBs and WR average at best and in some situations below average yet everyone agrees on his talent level. I easily put Daniels ahead of Maye because of where he played. SEC is clearly superior competiton. ACC is well underwhelming. Remember Jameis Winston???? #1 overall? UGH.....I would venture to say that Bo Nix will more success in the NFL than Maye especially if he goes to NE. He should have stayed in school another year. What's the rush? He'll regret it.

@@BobRoss-wm3lc Bob no need to get nasty. It's an opinion. Yes it wouldn't shock me if Nix goes to Denver and has success right away and Maye struggles mightily. Nix's ability to read defenses, his quick release, limits on bonehead throws is vastly superior, and quite frankly it should be. Nix played in 61 college games. That matters. He's shown growth each year and is actually a sneaky runner in the red zone. I believe he's the perfect fit for Sean Payton. Look what he did with Drew Brees. Maye is the better athlete no doubt and has a stronger arm but in NFL that isn't as important as Nix's other qualities in my opinion. Case in point Justin Fields. Better athlete than Maye by far, arm strength similar. What did it get the Bears? A 6th round pick..... We'll see what happens, but I suggest you watch more videos on Maye and Nix. You might be surprised.

@@BobRoss-wm3lc Ahh the age old, "not enough talent" excuse. Normie take at best as there's many reasons why a great QB can overcome terrible talent, or even elevate it to new levels. Look at Penix. Everyone would've laughed at the idea of Washington making the title game over USC, but all of the sudden now Penix gets no credit because of his elite cast? Never mind the fact it's a team filled with 3rd and 4th year players that struggled mightily before Penix came along... Yes even this apparently amazing WR cast with below average separation rates that all struggled to even eclipse 500 yards before playing with Michael. Look at Mahomes and what he overcame with possibly the second worst WR cast behind NE? The truth is guys like CW and Maye (especially) hinder the development and overall numbers of their cast around them with their play. Both named QB's held onto the ball past 3 seconds, longer than any QB's in the class by a quarter mile with CW just under 50% and Maye going over 50%. Who would be harder to block for consistently? Them or Penix, JD, or Nix? You can't just blame the WR either as further digging provides a different context. Not only are Washington's receivers below average at separating even in comparison to UNC or USC, Penix is among the best in class at getting rid of the ball quickly not only helping his line, yet he still hits covered WR routinely. It points to what shows up on tape and that's the fact that Maye and Caleb are not playing QB at a high level. I hate to rag on Maye but he's really tough to watch on tape. From drifting in the pocket, happy feet, to missing wide open routine passes, to snail like progressions, everyone's job is now more difficult. Scramble drills when the play breaks down does not develop your WR skills and it's not translatable. They're not getting jump ball opportunities that are thrown accurately, they're not getting rewarded for polishing their route tree. Then you factor in the negative plays with sacks and turnovers and now you're adding fuel to the fire. Notice I said turnovers. That's because CW normies will wag the 5 picks finger, which would be nice if Caleb didn't lead the nation in lost fumbles. Which is a turnover much worse than an INT because it's a spot turnover. The fumble recovery is gonna be picked up at the point of fumble or even ran back, where at least I can throw a 40 yard INT that almost acts as a punt. All in all Maye and CW have talent and it's a fake excuse.
