Audiobooks absolutely count as reading! You’re just consuming info through your ears instead of eyes. Any librarian or teacher will confirm this! I get most of my reading done via audio in the car, on a walk, or while doing chores. It’s amazing for people who are busy, are visually impaired, or don’t have access to physical books. Woo hoo 🙌🏻 Shout out to my fellow dystopian book and memoir lovers! Those are my fav genres, too. This was a cool vlog & I commend you for trying out the romance genre. Personally, it’s not for me. I prefer other genres with a side of romance. You got through more Emily Henry books than I did 😂 I have read 3 of her books and DNFd another. I don’t remember much from any of them, but again, not a romance reader. I completely understand why so many love Emily Henry. She is obviously doing something right for the genre!

I'm currently trying to get through the first Dune book via audiobook! I don't know if I'll read more romance novels unless my wife influences me again!

I guess it counts as reading for a version of reading. The problem with audiobooks is the internal monologue while reading. There used to be a sync feature Amazon had, still may be but I haven't looked. Could buy the book and the audiobook as a bundle and the selling point was your e-reader would sync to the audio book by chapter so could read then get in the car and start the audiobook from the same point with a button click or visa versa. And that was what killed the entire idea of audiobooks for me. I'd start reading a novel, get in the car and hit the button, and it would just be wrong. That experience made it blindingly obvious how much of a novel I created in my head while reading them. There was also this weird disconnect when I tried going back to the printed page afterwards. I'd be constantly caught between two perspectives of what the novel is. My version and the narrator's version. I tried it with a couple of them and all of them were just horrible experiences. On a related note, it cemented Death of the Author to me. If the person narrating and I can have such vastly different interpretations for them to do whatever it was in the audiobook. Then I definitely don't want to know what the author's version is. Audiobooks are just not a replacement for reading. Reading is far more of an active experience where audiobooks are sold as passive ones to listen to while doing other things. I don't care what any librarian or teacher says. They are just happy someone engages with a book on any level. But they are not the same. Not even close.

Yay!! I love that you're reading books because of your wife, and my favorite Emily Henry book has to be either Beach Read or People We Meet on Vacation.

I think my thing with audiobooks is it just adds another subjective element. Like five people could read the same book and not like it for different reasons like narrative or dialogue or just cause they already have a hard time connecting to it but with audiobook now you’re adding in the narrator and you might not like it because of their voice or if it’s a book you’ve read before because they interpreted so much different than when you were reading it or anything like that. so there are some books that are great audiobooks but even great books don’t necessarily make great audiobooks. My recommendations for anyone who likes audiobooks are Jim Dale reading Harry Potter, James Marsters reading Harry Dresden, and the murderbot series

Haha i love your content like this! Ive only read Happy Place and Beach Read but Happy Place just felt so empty and blah like it needed more. I look forward to eventually reading the rest at some point. If you attempt the ACOTAR series you might get lots of views cause that’s the hype rn.

Can you please listen to nothing but Ateez or Epik high for a week? Both of these groups are really amazing and Epik high is a korean rap group, and nothing but bops have came from their production. their leader, Tablo, had been through so much and for his career to stand this strong is absolutely amazing and i love his perseverance plus his art. ateez is a korean boy group and they’re so amazing, their performances are SO GOOD and honestly there’s nothing like them right now, they’re very unique in their style and music, and one of the best currently!!!!
