I related so hard to this! I’ve had a couple of rough reading years because my tastes changed SO wildly after I turned 30, but my TBR didn’t adapt as quickly as my tastes did. Fewer and fewer YA books work for me, and I’m drawn more to romance and mystery/thrillers than I ever was in the past. However, I had so many YA books on my radar that I was genuinely excited about when I added them to my TBR, and since it was relevant to my job I slogged through a great many “meh-to-me” books over the past couple of years. I’ve finally started to get okay at pinpointing what I like again but it is wild to basically relearn my tastes as a reader.

i know it's been two years but it still haunts me that you didn't read i'll give you the sun cause it's my favourite book ever (and so many people feel the same way 😭😭) and ik the beggining can be a little weird but it's just THE book

My best friend and I reread I'll Give You the Sun every year, the way Jandy Nelson is able to use color and abstract art to showcase how the characters are feeling gets me every time.
@kendall093 жыл бұрын
IMO, I'll Give You the Sun is 3/5 book until the end (where it becomes a 5/5 read). The last chapter of the book is amazing. Everything ties together in such a beautiful way. It's one of the few books that has ever made me cry. Granted, I was 17ish when I read it, so the hormones were wildin' then.

🎅 I feel the same way about fantasy. I used to read it all the time, and now I always think I want to read it/want to want to read it but when it comes time to actually sit down and read it or choose my next book, I rarely pick it up.

Totally fair points on the bear and the nightingale BUT a lot of what you mention you want or was missing is actually in the next 2 books, minus smut. But the religious discussion actually has the perfect ending and vasya ages up a bit and there's better vibes with the ice king

oh my GOSH i love heartless, it's one of my favorite books. it's not an alice in wonderland retelling, but it is a prequel to the alice in wonderland story. it may be a bit of a spoiler, but it's worth mentioning that cath is not alice, she's another character from the story. i think going into it knowing those sorts of things might make it more of an enjoyable read, to be honest haha I've read it twice and I enjoyed it more the second time because I knew the characters and could make the connections more clearly. (brb gonna go watch the rest of the video)
