I’m currently sitting at 64% of my collection read. I’m a mood reader so I like options but I am trying to get to 80-90% read this year. I love the fact that you don’t jump on the hype train too soon with the newest series coming out! I’m learning to wait awhile and see what other people say first!! I think waiting to see if a series is worth your time and money is such a great idea. Especially now with the prices of manga going up.

Comic book guy here. I have much the same plan, got 70 titles to read digital (we in comics need the digital not only as an alternative but also as filter because of the shopping). I will try to finish the list this year and then re-read my collection. Re-reading allows you to understand better or catch some details that you didnt see or overlooked in the first reading.

My manga collection consists of 4 One Piece boxes, so I have read 100%. Now I read digitally on a 11 inch iPad Pro, and I think I prefer reading this way. I will buy future One Piece boxes when they are released for collection sake - it is my favorite piece of fiction. Other series that I plan to eventually read - digital only.

If you want any recs on what online manga to start reading, i highly highly HIGHLY reccomend The Climber. It started as a basic shonen but around the 3rd volume the writer left the manga to the artist which made him work on the art and the writing so it drastically changed the manga from a basic sports shonen to a mature seinen. 10/10 one of my favs

Before you go out of your way to spent money on a manga you might not enjoy you can always read like 1 or 2 chapters online and if you like what you see you then you decide if you wanna buy it or not. But holy smokes, very impressive that you actually read everything on your shelves. I am nowhere near finishing them all 😂 Especially since I also started buying and reading "normal books" lol

@@ThePromG Yeah, this gets me thinking all of the time. Although all the ambitious manga people can meet online and on KZbin, unfortunately all of our collections are homebound and can't easily be shared with others. There's a story in LWAC where the Yagyu are starting to dwindle in top swordsmen they can send after Itto despite having the full authority of the Shogunate. You'll remember one swordsman who leaves the capital at the Yagyu's request and they dual using stone statues...cut off three statue heads and then engage, except the Yagyu put a metal collar on one of the statues so one of the duelists' swords will break, guaranteeing death. Itto wins but it's 50/50 luck because the other guy wound up breaking his sword. Samurai Executioner is about that guy and the story abruptly doesn't finish because he dies in that duel.

I know your a big fan of Gantz and I’m about 100 chapters or so into the series, it started out really good with the onion alien mission but I feel it got kind of repetitive after a while, the Buddha mission was really good and I’m wondering if it’s worth reading the series until the end.

I personally don’t think it’s repetitive since it shows how much kei develops! @@InfamyOrDeath-__- what I mean by repetitive is that every mission starts off with our main characters who know that this is real, everyone else is in denial and thinks it’s a prank, when they get into the game someone tries to walk home and they get eliminated because they leave the given boundary, then everyone realizes that this is real and they are still alive and then they fight aliens, turns out there’s more, they fight a bunch more a ton of people die and then the cycle repeats

@@ThePromG All of it, but Golden age is slightly better than the rest of the story. Muira didn't plan out the story and didn't set it up properly. I'll list 1 example. Eclipse and Incarnation. After I finished eclipse and got into conviction, I thought, "this is really bad. A good ending needs the villain to be interacting with the hero and Grif is gone." So when incarnation occurred, I was not surprise because Muira needed Grif to return but now the plot is a mess. ideally Grif would have gotten the castle first and then realized he didn't care about a kingdom and wanted more power and did eclipse. So the story is in the wrong order and things are wishy-washy and their is a lack of progress. Berserk is unfinished because Muira did a poor job writing it. Berserk are in massive denial regarding the writing problems.
@loooooooooooooolwow
@loooooooooooooolwow Жыл бұрын
@@Adam-jr4lx I agree with you and think this is heavily overlooked not just by the Berserk fandom, but the fandom of manga as a whole. It became pretty evident overtime that Miura just did not know how to end the series, let alone progress it. It explains why the series just keeps on needlessly worldbuilding to distract from that fact.
@Adam-jr4lx
@Adam-jr4lx Жыл бұрын
Yep. Berserk at its core is a revenge and given what we know about Berserk, we can predict the ending. Grif will do another eclipse and Guts will stop it and defeat Grif. That's it. The middle portion of the story should setup the final battle and have some theme and/or character development. Storytelling is an art but it's not rocket science.@@loooooooooooooolwow
@loooooooooooooolwow
@loooooooooooooolwow Жыл бұрын
I think he wrote himself in a corner given how strong the Godhand is, let alone Femto. I think it's even stressed that Femto was like stronger than all of them. And what could Guts do to combat that? Berserker armor at best just gives him the ability to hold his own against stronger apostles. He can't even full on kill them (the stronger apostles). So he knew there was going to be an asspull needed for Guts to overcome Griffith, just like 80% of all manga do. And it was probably ego that stopped him from progressing the plot in any relevant way/ending the story, whether that was consciously or something happening unconsciously. I mean after 20 years past the Eclipse it probably became conscious. He knew he couldn't end it without an asspull and bring the quality of the series down by the fandom. His ego likely wouldn't allow that and that's why the hiatuses just got longer and longer and the plot stopped developing and we get shit like the boat arc taking years upon years to finish and have no real relevance at all to the plot. He dragged it out and knew he would die not finishing berserk BECAUSE THAT WAS HIS PLAN. He wanted to go down as this tragic martyr who couldn't finish his life work. Mind you, probably not at 55 which is young, but I digress. He wanted the legacy of being someone who wrote something legendary for 30+ years, his life's work, and had the tragedy of not being able to finish it vs being someone who wrote something great for 30 years and it had a shit, asspull ending that soured the taste of it in everyone's mouth. @@Adam-jr4lx
