fan of the book here! i understand that it's not for everyone, especially when fans of the musical or the wizard of oz read it and are completely blindsided with how different/dark/political it is. and honestly, as much as i love the books, they really do drone on and on sometimes. but i appreciate them overall for how much of the lore and socio-political commentary gets dug into i actually enjoy how depressingly realistic and mundane they are. it's a specific kind of slice of life where sometimes you're just following a character doing whatever the fuck bs that doesn't really matter, or you see them fail at what they want most and how they deal with the reality of that, good or bad. but i can totally see how someone interested in fantasy wouldn't want to bother with that. i know oz is supposed to be a fantasy world, but we're getting it through the lens of its citizens and to them, they aren't living in a fantasy world, it's just life with its ups and downs and flatlines the second book is a lot better imo, the third one put me to sleep bc i really do not give a fuck about the cowardly lion but it does shed a lot of light on a major character so whatever, the fourth book interested me but also drags a bit (i loved the beginning and the end enough that it ranks higher than the lion's book), and then there's actually a whole sequel series of three additional books that explore a country completely outside of oz (maracoor) that i absolutely adore and didn't at all feel like a drag. absolutely devoured all three books in less than 48 hours. but, my honest opinion is that if you didn't like the first book, then you shouldn't bother with the rest of them. i think based on your thoughts of wicked, you'd give the series an overall two stars. MAYBE three, if you include the maracoor series i also love the musical, even if it is different. definitely much more palatable to the everyday viewer

I really appreciate your perspective! Hearing you talk about the series like that definitely makes me more interested. I’m not typically a fantasy reader, so I think I just went into it with the wrong expectations. I might give it another chance in the future! Thanks for chiming in 💗

@@marginsofmarisa well in that case, i'll subscribe on the off-chance you decide to give the second book a try. i promise liir is more fun of a protagonist! and his eventual sidekick is snarky and the best character in all the books :)

I am like a third/ a half of the way through it and I honestly like it for the political commentary. I am just disturbed with how similar the political stuff is to right now lmao. But overall I liked the book. I am dreading how it ends though because I heard bad things. I don't wanna be upset lol

omg I'm watching the movie today!! Thank you for reading this and for your review so I can just skip the absurdity and go straight to the movie! Also, I can totally relate to being "that person" who has read the book and tell my friends/family that the show/movie adaptation is WRONG 🤣

Thanks for your review, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the book and the movie. By the way, I also had no clue this movie is split in two parts, so that was news to me as well. Not sure why marketing is not including that information. (It was very clear when they did the movie for the last book of Harry Potter that we were going to see part 1 and then part 2.)
@marginsofmarisa2 ай бұрын
Right!! I swear they were keeping it a secret 🫣 maybe they thought it would turn people away being such a long movie and only part 1 🤷♀️

I read the lions story by this author and was erked by the explicit random/unnecessary thrown in content that i did not finish the last chapters. It was also too long and I don't even remember the plot. I vote don't continue the series 😅
