The other Barry Mann-Cynthia Weil song from this record was: "I'm On The Road" and also recorded before Wes Farrell allowed Cassidy to sing.

On one of the documentaries they called this the blooper reel because they rushed it into the show so quickly they didn’t realize David Cassidy would be lip-synching when at that point he was promoted to lead singer.

The heck with Stacy's mom having it going on! Bring on Shirley Jones, who was in her mid-30's at the time, lovely as ever, and both an Oscar-winning actress and one powerful stage and musical singer, as shown here, though most of the Partridges' backing vocals came from veteran studio singers Tom and Jackie Bahler. Tony Romeo, who penned many of the Partridges' hits, also wrote "Indian Lake" for the Cowsills. And you'll find Barry and Cynthia's songwriting credits littered among the best of the 60's. Love this song. The lines between the two groups are indelible, though one really was and the other made-for-TV. Suspend reality and enjoy both bands' music.

This is one of the prettiest songs ever written. I miss the innocence of that era. Now shows are pure garbage.

This is one of the very few songs where you can actually hear Shirley Jones sing. Most of the time, her tracks were mixed way down.

That's "still" a big, untold mystery of exactly HOW MUCH Jones' vocal was mixed onto the 16 channel multi-track. It was revealed that she did add her part later, interwoven with The Ron Hicklin Singers (producer Wes Farrell's contracted singing quintet for ALL of the television programs AND the slightly remixed versions for the LPs) but my totally unfounded guess, yet based on ALOT of research, that the line, "Secret World" was probably sung by Hicklin's mezzo-soprano, Miss Jackie Ward. We can sometimes let the video "fool our eyes & ears" especially with the emotion of the song itself, but when it came to EXACTLY who was on that female sung line, my vote goes towards Ward and not Jones. One key element, the very first album, oddly enough entitled "PARTRIDGE FAMILY ALBUM" was recorded in 1969, almost a year before the television show was approved by Screen Gem Productions, to start filming episodes in 1970, so with that timeframe in mind, it would have been unlikely (not 'impossible' however) that Jones' was not even cast yet, when Wes Farrell & Ron Hicklin started with the audio production. I "may" be wrong, but I reckon I am not. Hmmmmm... BolsaChicaRadio
