You describe the Junghans like it falls between two stools - but most people don’t wear very formal attire that often - so don’t need a typical dress watch. This watch is aimed at the smart casual city worker - chinos, brogues, shirt and jacket type guys who want a statement watch that speaks to their aesthetic. The guy who has some individual class and style so therefore shuns the masses in their Rolex subs and OPs and instead goes for design and elegance. JLC for the formal dinner, Junghans for the office, seiko for the weekend.

This was (I still have it) one of my first more expensive watch purchases. I don’t wear it a lot as I consider it my office watch, but have worn to weddings and work when I would go into the office and it was great. I wear it on a brown cordavan leather strap and it’s perfect. For non watch people, it’s probably my most complimented watch and I’ve worn it casual. I don’t think the lighting in this video or the strap did it Justice. Teddy B on KZbin has some videos that show it a bit better. Have I thought of selling it to fund a tank, yeah…but I’m glad I didn’t. ITs certainly a unique watch but every time I wear it I’m happy I have it

Bought a pair of regular junghans max bill for my brother's wedding. I bought the regular max bills with Arabic numerals. And I think that design makes for a better dress wear watch slap on a black strap and you're good to go. But without the numerals I think they are meh.... I personally wanted to get this chronograph. But I felt the push buttons were very poorly built. So I did not get them. At that price I expected a more solid built, but it felt filmsy. Like something on a vostok watch. Not that vostok is bad, but it's much better priced, so you expect some lower end builts.

Nice review. I have the Meister Telemeter Chronoscope and love it. It doesn’t have the rotor wobble because it uses a base movement ETA 2892-2, and a modular assembly Dubois Depraz 2030

I've been torn about buying the Max Bill with date. But just haven't pulled the pin. I discovered recently that my dad used to sell Junghans, in one of his first jobs, back in the early 70s. Along with Omega, Rolex, Hamilton and others. I might have to add one to the collection one day to honour him.

I have the regular 34mm Max Bill with the beautiful numerals and I love it! As you said, since they are all dial, they don't look too small but wear very well. It's not high horology, but a wonderful design.

Nice video! I totally agree that the Max Bills in general are neither everyday nor dress, but I don't think that's a negative. I see them as smart/business casual, which is how a lot of people dress these days.

Changes I would make: -42mm case -no date -Column wheel chronograph movement -72 hour power reserve -100m water resistance -Slimmer case -brushed steel -Remove the chronoscope script Junghans logo and indices should be applied onto the dial. -Center cap on the hour/minute hands and subdials hands. -quick release springbars - different strap options.

I own this watch, but with the beautiful Arabic numerals. I absolutely love this watch and is one of my favorite in my collection. I do not understand people’s obsession with a “loud” rotor. Who cares? First of all, it is NOT loud. To me loud is the bang of a rifle bullet, or the exhaust of a Formula 1 race car. Believe me, the rotor of this watch is NOT loud. Second, your review completely missed the elephant in the room. More important than a noisy rotor is the fact that this watch has no seconds hand. That is the only defect I find with this watch. But again, the elegant aesthetic and beautiful design of this watch completely eclipses the “loud” rotor and missing seconds hand.

Junghans three hander won't have the rotor noise. It should fit the bill nicely and treat your wallet better as well. I would also go for a white dial instead of this silver tone thing they were doing here.

I think it looks like a German scientist's watch from a 1960s documentary. Perhaps it's because Max Bill's designs remind me of wall clocks in a classroom that I can only ever picture them in an academic setting.

Have a Max Bill three hander. I have had to service the ETA movement multiple times because of it running either too fast or too slow. Probably spent more than the watch is worth so now it sits in drawer.

I think you've summed up the problems I have with the ""dress" version on the Junghans Max Bill Chronograph. Its trying to be a dress watch but it really isn't.

It's based on a fantastic design but I don't see the point in owning a chrono that doesn't have a second's hand. Which is why I own a Max Bill Bauhaus, which in my opinion is the better design.

They should have removed the rotor and made it a manual wound. Shave off a millimeter or two from the thickness.

Excellent review and your point is spot on: I really felt exactly the same about a Junghans watch, not knowing where it stands in terms of function/identity either as a one-watch collection or part of a larger spectrum. Pretty good at what it does, yes but 1-where does it stand? 2-"pretty good" is ok, but may be not enough to justify pulling the trigger on such an odd number. Cheers!

Good analysis of this watch. It seems to me this is an urban watch. The sophisticated Bauhaus look is from Berlin, not the German countryside. This watch belongs in a city on the wrist of a well-dressed, sharp yet casual and self-assured urban young professional.

When you want "a Classic Dress Watch" then you should NOT look into Chronographs at all and get yoursef the 3 Hands Junghans Max Bill. That also has not the "7750 Rotor Noise". So you picked the wrong watch for your needs and then complain about it, wtf?

I own a Max Bill and handled some more. I find them not worth their MSRP. Next to a Nomos and Stowa, Junghans feels like a mass-produced watch

I don't like it because I hate thick watches. I know anything to do with the V7750 is a thick movement and most mechanical chronographs are thick. It looks like a chunky dress watch.

IMO 40mm is much too big for a white watch with virtually no bezel. I find the style very appealing, though.

For this price: low water resistance, closed case back, never desirable, nor is a date. No SS bracelet. A cool watch, a cool company, but a lot of money for features that are less than desirable (but subjective).

Junghans, Nomos these are not designs basically for everyone. I have a limited edition Junghans Bauhaus Max Bill, people do not believe it is a watch offering a good value, it must be like that. Simple designs attract me, and the way they use eta movements is superior to other brands. I wanted a German watch, i got one, and that's good enough for me. When i go for Junghans, i don't buy chronoscope or telemeter. I prefer more simplistic designs.
