True Grit: Appalachian Ways

True Grit: Appalachian Ways

Ай бұрын

Today we are trying to get some garden work done before even more rain heads our way. The weeds are about to take our corn field. I am also cooking a farm to table supper tonight with canned venison, green beans, homemade biscuits and the best chocolate chip cookies! You can find the recipes below!
Simple Biscuits
2 cups self rising flour
3-4 Tbsp of lard or crisco
Sprinkle of salt
1 cupish of buttermilk
Set oven to 425 degrees. Preheat your pan. Cut lard into flour until there are pieces no bigger than the size of a pea. Add milk, mix until you see no more dry flour, then stop. Remove pan from oven, grease with lard or butter. Flour your hands, make a ball of dough the size of biscuits you want, place on pan. Flatten slightly. Bake around 15-20 minutes or until biscuits are as brown as you want them :)
Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 cups AP flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
12 Tbsp melted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 whole egg
1 egg yolk
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
Set oven to 325 degrees. Combine flour, salt and baking soda in a small bowl. In a larger separate bowl combine melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Add egg, yolk and vanilla to sugar mixture, mix until all is combined. Add dry ingredients slowly to wet ingredients. Mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips. Spoon out mixture using a tablespoon onto cookie sheet. Bake for around 15 minutes until the edges are slightly brown and middle is still gooey. Allow to cool on cookie sheet. Enjoy!

This was the best video!! I love watching you both teach Jacob and Maggie how to do things. I appreciate the fact that you give them a chance to learn and always encourage their efforts, regardless of the outcome. I think that is how children should be taught. I enjoyed watching Andy change up his attachments on the tractor, and I am learning more about tractors every video, lol. That supper of venison with the gravy over top a biscuit had my mouth watering ready for a bite. I will try making my biscuits this way next time. I hate the mess of rolling and cutting them out. That tater patch is beautiful, and the watermelons are really growing, mine barely have their 2nd set of leaves. Maggie and Jacob are good with the camera. Love your family and your lifestyle, God Bless!

Don't know how to tell you how deeply I enjoy your channel. I am one of 12 children (from MA); our Dad was from WV. Sadly, he died young, leaving Mom w/ all 12 of us (ages 1-20). In my formative years ('til age 6 when he passed) I heard that similar accent from my beloved Daddy. So, there's that. Then, my Hubby & I enjoy so much about your channel: the family values, the work ethic, your personalities. We got completely dedicated, though, when we heard you belting out those hymns w/ your Mom & children 🫶🏼 LUV Hymns - churches simply don't sing them enough anymore (that's nothing but a crying shame). Something to take note of is the use of grazeon which some hay farmers use on their fields to kill weeds. It is absorbed into the hay ,if the hay is put in the garden as compost or ground cover it will poison the ground and kill the vegetable plants . The lady from Cosmopolitan Cornbread on UT had this happen to her garden . Cheers to you and your family from northern Canada .
