My brother and I once played a hot wheels game on the N64. It was our dad’s which we used to play all the time. I’m glad to see a modern hot wheels game that plays and looks this good! The tracks looking like hot wheels tracks were placed around a warehouse or someone’s room really fits the fantasy of playing with your hot wheels cars when you were young. Just so people know, rather than add microtransactions (as of January 2nd) the devs made the shop have more cars in it, and update over twice as often. You can also sell cars for coins now, with the common rarity getting you 300 of your 500 coins back. The in game economy is much better now.
@dg7347
@dg7347 2 жыл бұрын
it's shit, once you have all the good cars like all 5 of them the loot boxes, shop, coins, and gears become 100% useless, they don't even update the boxes or limited shop with new cars, you either get them completely free or have to pay real money for more.

@TheSergio1021
@TheSergio1021 2 жыл бұрын
In the old PS1 Hot Wheels game they had a mechanic that circumvented the "fast cars = better" issue. The slower cars were considered part of the "4x4" category and there were short cuts in all of the tracks where only those big slow cars could get through. This made it so knowledge of the track was very important compared to just the speed stat of your car.

So glad this is getting good reviews, maybe they can add a mode with powerups or something similar to Full Auto. That paired with the track-maker which hopefully gets updated and this sounds like a really good time. Maybe they could add props to smash through which make larger vehicles have enough power to do so, keeping speed over smaller cars.

Someone said that the developers said they wouldn't put it in, but I can't find a source of it and I'll believe it when it's still free of real-money transactions in a few months from now. - Even if it remains free, it looks like conditioning of the mind with the way it looks like mobile game lootboxes. - Why put that shit in? It has nothing to do with anything in this game.

Great review, and I've been loving the game! One thing though: You mentioned that you can't dismantle the cars for money, but you can. Common cars are dismantled for 300 coins and Rare are dismantled for 500. I don't know how much Legendary is dismantled for, but getting a Rare duplicate at least nets you another free roll.

I remember playing a game just like this on the ps2. Funnest times I’ve ever had. Though something I remember that game had that I don’t think this one does is the world obstacles that fit the setting like a toy dinosaur blowing fire onto the track and having to dodge the fire, and “wrecking” other cars

Glad you liked it, I played it 5 hours at launch and don't see myself returning to it. The AI cheats to offer difficulty (rubberbanding, saw one spawn in at a better position, getting excessive speed boosts). A large number of tracks use cheap tactics to "challenge" by having corner you can fly out of with no way to recover except respawning (Trackmania used to do this better). There is no reverse, so respawn when something happens. Boosting can nullify hitting the wall in corners. The oversteer of drifting causes me hit boost to exit is, because it simply works better on average than steering correctly. I found a lot of rubbish online, because it seems like all creations are automatically uploaded. I am impressed by the capabilities of the track editor and cars, but that's it. The editor itself is horrible to navigate, I would have preferred something like Trackmania's general overview. In my opinion: Wait until the game is actually done and then buy it, because it is currently overpriced and with more content coming there is no point in putting down money now with the frequency of sales, GOTY's, etc.
