I'm 47 years old. Growing up videos like this just simply didn't exist. No one even had the slightest idea that one day we would have something this special. We got the album and we listened to it in our walkmans or discmans and played it at our house parties. We definitely had a personal relationship with albums and a shared relationship amongst our friend group. Everyone has everything nowadays and I don't think kids coming up can relate because they have everything at their fingertips on their device in their pockets. We got a few albums a year. In the space of no time at all we got blood sugar sex magik Metallica superunknown check your head use your illusion and never mind. Then along came this album. Now all these years later we have these incredible videos celebrating these albums. The 90's were special. It was The End of a long era. The internet changed everything! At first it really was not that great. Now we have videos like this that are great. Thank you.

Even at that moment I wanted to hum along to the tune and it cheered me up.

My dad was a touring drummer in the 60s/70s and often opened for the Beach Boys, of all people, in the late 70s/80s, and played everything from rock/pop/country/polka until the pandemic when he was almost 80. I've always admired his insane knowledge of all of the technical aspects for sound. He was every bands' sound guy. He passed away 2 years ago and owned so much stuff that I'm still trying to figure out what it all is. It's a really cool scavenger hunt. My point is, thank you for making the technical aspects super easy to follow and understand, you ended up in my algorithm after I binged Drumeo for 2 days, and I'm glad I found your channel! As someone who got a somewhat heavier stutter but very similar in nature to Garth, I applaud this man's courage to allow you to put him on camera while he's responding to questions: his way of coping with it is flawless and the discourse seems reasonably fluent, even for this peculiar type of stutter (he struggles with sibilant and fricative consonants, while the majority of us struggle with labial and dental consonants). But whatever, great video, really great stuff, I loved every second of it! You killed it in the interview, you killed it in the recreation of Bombtrack and you killed it in the "teaching" department too: I know jack shit about audio production, but the explanations were very "down to earth" and I feel that even an idiot like me could understand and learn something new: as a musician myself (although nowadays I'm only playing in orchestras and my death metal skills would certainly need a rework) is always useful and interesting to know what happens behind the scenes
@alank12206 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I didn't realise that stutters take different forms but it makes sense. When I first heard Garth talking I didn't realise until he said it. Hats off to him for his courage to do the interview. It's nice to see that a lot of challenges that people face are being more normalised and accepted, but I imagine it's still very difficult for those who deal with them.
@Killerspieler5 ай бұрын
Really feels he learned to cope well with a stutter and just goes on completely confident. The funniest thing to me (and also probably a pretty successful coping mechanism) is that the stutter is right there in his nickname: GGGareth 😂 so it's already out from the start, don't let it be an issue, trying to mask it or whatever. It's just how he talks, as everyone talks differently.
@campfire29535 ай бұрын
This was something I was really tempted to point out when the original video came out. such an awesome individual doesnt deserve to get held back by a stutter like that. i'm glad he doesnt let it get to him

I'm a 38 years old Brazilian and RATM has been one of my favorite bands since the first time I listened to their music (2001). And it killed me when I heard they had broken up just 1 year before. That didn't make me quit the fandom, though. Their killer sound and lyrics were inebriating to me. So I kept enjoying their music. And all of a sudden, they were back and there was a date scheduled for Brazil. October 9th, 2010. To keep it short: it was the very best show I've ever seen. And I've been to Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC, Sepultura, A7X, Alice In Chains, Ghost etc. But there's nothing like RATM live. The energy. The performance. Everything. They're just different. And will be forever a top 5 all time for me. Cheers brother! 🤘

I'm the same age, I got into RATM when I was maybe 10 at oldest lol, much older brothers and I'd sneak some of their CD's. Got into Nine Inch Nails around that time too, first album of theirs I heard was probably Broken and not long after The Downward Spiral. I remembered playing Quake around then and thinking, man that sounds like NIN, especially the screams in the theme, then I noticed Trent Reznor did actually do the music and sound. Still one of the best OST's ever and such amazing sound design for it's time, holds up so well today. Speaking of Id Software soundtracks, I remember when I first started to notice Doom tracks sounded like Pantera, then Alice in Chains, ect then when I made a thread on a message board everyone thought I was imagining things and I honestly couldn't believe people weren't at least hearing Angry Chair and Them Bones, then years later KZbin videos started coming out about it.

Zack seems like he'd a complete nightmare to even be around. Very talented at his things in the band. And by the way, by his things I mean that one cadence he used and his trademark snarling delivery, and that's it. He pinched all of his lyrics from Asian Dub Foundation and Public Enemy.

Bro props to you for getting this interview and video sponsored by UA. Your channel is really underrated (not for long) but we appreciate you putting in the work overtime to put together content that’s perfect for the people that you know will appreciate it. Much love man ❤️

Well… what can I say(?) Firstly; refreshing to see such quality content. There’s no over explaining on the production techniques and equipment. Which to a novice might be daunting, but I’m sure to many who have an understanding, were grateful. Great interview too. I always second guess my work, and his little note at the end about believing in your original sound and don’t follow the trends, was reassuring. A hat tip to the end result.

I got share this man! I am a singer.....around 96 in São Paulo Brazil we were the only band playing RATM with no resources at all! Me and guitar guy used to think all the time about their recordings! Watching your video about the whole thing made me remenber those shows and gigs we had playing their and our songs. I live in US nowadays and I do my own songs! I felt in my cells your achivement.....You did a excellent job buddy! It was a honor to watch your video! Good vibes!!!! I really appreciate it!

It's a first video from your channel for me. It was very inspirational and educational (I'm a casual RATM enjoyer and didn't know the album was basically recorded live, that's amazing). Thank you for your hard work, wish you all the best in the future! And I'll be checking out other videos, of course!

It's an honor to see that full circle catharsis on your face. The completion of achieving something your heroes achieved before you is truly profound to see come together. Well done!

Great video in every way. You captured a dynamic inside view that we would have never seen if not for you. The interview was an extra special insight into a part of the music industry that gets little if any attention like Garth Richardson. His visionary concept of how to capture the essence of his first experience in meeting Rage and to be able to capture it for posterity is an inspiration to all who aspire to do the same, whether for our personal projects or to help others with theirs. What good if we play and no one hears, the joy is in the sharing. Thank you for sharing your experience with us I truly enjoyed the whole video. Last thing, you guys did do great job with your recreation. Keep up the good work.
