@Omkar Jadhav "fancy UI stuff" - you mean like presenting your content in a clear way that enables you to find relevant answers quickly and efficiently? Just look at how comments are displayed for an example of how piss poor the design is. Or the related links. Or the blog that you didn't even know existed on the right, because why would you even notice that bland box?

@Fork Yeah, of course it is... You can have a clean design focused on just content without making it look like amateur hour. Did they also intend for the design to inhibit functionality too?

@Fork I mean "well" is relative, but yeah? The most obvious one for me is the design of comments. They're pretty restrictive and lead to having to go back and update the OP, rather than expand upon a theme raised in that particular branch of comments. I'm not saying stackoverflow is bad, but I am saying that i reckon an unreasonably large percentage of its user base could do a better job. The fact that the main defence seems to be that it's "good enough" kind of says it all :shrug: I mean ultimately design does impact the usability of a site, and that impacts ease of learning. Outside of Reddit, can anyone think of a popular site that's *worse*?

Been out of the design loop for a while. I guess Figma is the new Photoshop? Been seeing it on job postings lately. I tried it a couple months ago and I'm like, okay... This is easy since I know Photoshop really well, it wasn't hard for me to pick up. Nice to have a grid system in place. I use to have to build out one myself in Photoshop like, 8 years ago.

Not all Reddit posts have photos. ;] I once had to redesign a forum/board (whatever is English name for it) for teenagers and I had a pretty similar idea... or at least there also were cards in use and orange color! The project unfortunately got canceled, but yeah, this video activated some small memory. :] I see the same "problem" as I had - where would the 'hot, trending, new' buttons go after user scrolls down. :P
