I regret buying a PS5

Sony pissed me off. Apparently the PS5 is in the last stages of it's life, but it didn't have that good of a run. While the PS5 isn't dead yet, it's future doesn't look that great.
And before you ask, I was going to talk about Stellar Blade, but I couldn't find a way of organically incorporating it into this script...

This video perfectly pinpoints why many PlayStation users who still use their PS4 are simply refusing to upgrade to the PS5 even when affordability is never a problem for them in the slightest bit. PS5 is basically nothing but a mere upgraded version of the PS4 Pro with better graphics + hardware specifications but an atrociously miniscule library of exclusives just for the PS5 itself. As you point out, many of the PlayStation specific titles for the PS5 already have PS4 versions and ports to the PC and what does that do? Nothing but convince PlayStation users it's completely pointless to spend extra money to upgrade hardware by replacing their PS4 systems with a PS5. Even worse, as more games that are released for the PS5 get PS4 versions and/or ports to the PC, more PS5 users increasingly regret purchasing a PS5 in the first place because they realize that 1. the upgrade was an absolute waste of money just to never get their money's worth of exclusives like they hoped when purchasing the PS5, which means 2. they realize they've been played and exploited hard by Sony but Sony ain't going to care in the slightest bit since they got the money.

The Ps5 plays 155 ps4 games with the free 4k/60 fps patch it plays all the newest AAA games for only $500. Who cares about exclusive games ? I enjoyed playing Alan Wake 2 .BDG3, Elden Ring and Judi Survivor on my Ps5.

I got my ps5 at the end of 2021, just like how I got my first ps4 at the end of 2014, just like with games most gamers don't buy consoles at launch, according to the GDC consoles and games are typically bought by gamers on sale somewhere between 6-18 months after release, the developers at the conference were discussing how to get more gamers to buy consoles and games at release instead of waiting for sales, which of course will never happen, most ppl are low income and just can't afford to buy the newest consoles and games when they release, I mean why do they think wishlists exist, If most gamers bought games at the release then digital sales wouldn't be so popular, there are always tons of youtube videos discussing new sales on the digital stores, sometimes ppl don't realize that the youtube gaming community is a minority in the wider gaming community, they think because they hear one certain thing on youtube then that must be the consensus but most gamers just don't watch or comment on youtube gaming videos, they might watch trailers from time to time but the majority don't even scroll past the video, just look at any gaming video, compare the number of views to the number of comments, its like a factor of 1,000 to 1, but anytime your interacting with other gamers on any social media your interacting with a very small minority, we can't forget that loud minorities exist in most communities, the loudest voices always seem to be completely wrong in most cases

Sony just did that exact thing recently and they have done similar things already in the past. You don't OWN Digital Media, whoever owns the Plattform does, so the smartest thing do is block their access to your console.

I totally agree with Sony only being comfortable with releasing these "cinematic narrative driven" games. Don't get me wrong, the newer God of War games are incredible games and what Santa Monica did to breathe new life into the series is something that should be celebrated, but I don't want more of these types of games. I want big companies to produce games with unique artstyles and gameplay instead of the next cinematic "masterpiece" which a lot of people overhype, like The Last of Us. Thankfully, Indie Games exist which are nearly single-handedly saving the gaming industry from complete mediocrity but it is still sad that amazing games such as Bloodborne and Gravity Rush don't get the attention that they deserve because Sony is trying to be like Hollywood instead of creating fun games which encourage creativity instead of the over-saturated hyperrealistic graphics that is pushed so heavily within modern gaming.

I personally think that if you own a mid-tier PC with windows, there really isn't reason to own a console besides maybe the switch. Although for a linux user, its always a good backup to have where games will always run without having to manually fix it. The only real thing going for the PS5 for me is the timed exclusives like the Final Fantasy games which I will always remind people, where made with the console in mind. Honestly, PC gaming is pulling waves of people in and these console companies need to revolutionize gaming in some way or die off. If Sony wasn't goofing off they would make the PS6 that runs a linux distro like the steamdeck (obviously with their own store like epic or steam)

The exclusives "all sucking" is subjective and considering that Sony has been doing the same thing for at least a decade now its your own fault buying a console that doesn't make the kind of games you want to play. 2. Consoles don't compete with PC, they're an affordable alternative to PC...if you own a good PC or are able to buy one you literally don't need a console outside of maybe a Switch. 3. The whole gaming space has been a bust this generation. Even PC has expensive graphic cards after covid. Then there’s the broken, microtransaction games you pay over $70 for. I agree, Ps5 has been kinda disappointment, the machine is great and run games great (when devs want to optimize them), now my game library is basically all my ps4 games, I enjoyed ragnarok and returnal at the time, spiderman 2 felt like a dlc, waiting for stellar blade but we all know the game will land on PC eventually, shift up was already years into developing the game when sony gave some money they deserve no credit for it, also I live on a third world country, PS5 here was about $1200 when I got it right now its around $700, we get taxed like hell. Now if you read my comment my personal issue was living in a shitty country meant I had to pay $1200 for it as consoles are wildly overpriced here. For that money I could've easily build a PC that surpasses the PS5 from scratch, anyone that believes that a good PC must be $2000+ knows nothing about PC or either they are getting scammed buying a pre built. Also I personally use my PC every day for more than gaming, however as I already had a PC, upgrading my GPU would have been around $300 at that time and prices have dropped, right now I can get a 3060 for $200. Btw the PS5 equivalent is a 2070. So the console. $80 ps plus or $140 for extra .Add a few games on release and that's a ton of money. I'm just sharing my personal experience. I have a PS5 and I quite like it. Problem is, the good, original PS5 games are the ones on the VR2, an add-on that doubles the price of an already expensive console. Although those games are better (and so are the prices), they're few and far between. It's disappointing to hear that the VR-related studios (such as that London one) were among the first to be cut, Sony's modern VR devices are great pieces of technology (as well as convenient private screens for people who have families to share TVs with) and they do almost nothing with them, save for the occasional gem where they really work their magic.

Truth told? 1. Covid created a unique vacuum forcing them to downgrade their games to PS4. 2. Covid created a vacuum to the availability of the new generation of consoles. 3. Covid basically forced delays in plans and its timing. 4. The games are darn good. The problem is developing those games requires half a life cycle to make one these days. You might get two titles in an entire generation of such quality so remakes hold off fans. Listen. Exclusives are the ONLY real thing different between Xbox and Playstation. So I don't hate this generation I just look at Playstation 5 as the real Playstation 4 pro. You can't cry about buying consoles when these days when mid generation upgrades occur. Playstation 5 is the real Playstation 4 pro to me because outside faster load times it does add enough of an improvement when everything mostly from this generation is just remakes and the originals don't really warrent being solely on PS5.

Exactly this is how I feel with Series S. It's basically an Xbox One S Pro. Also the consoles are cheaper as a hardware and easier (cheaper) to replace when a storm hits or there is some electric line issue when some neighbour gets their solar panel rejected by the powerplant and it fries everything in the neighborhood. That happened once in Poland nearby Krakow and total damage was something around one million dollars in conversion. Laptops, washing machines, gaming PCs, servers, or electric heating -- fried beyond repair since the 250V lines were suddenly at 500V.

I'm mainly a PC gamer, but I have a PS2 and a PS4. Will probably get a PS6 someday. PlayStation is like the old Star Trek films where every other one is seen as the good one. And while that's not actually true for either Star Trek or Sony, it has sort of worked out like that in a way. Skipping a generation seems to be a better financial (and emotional) decision.

@TheMahayanist mobile gaming died 10 years ago, it would need a revival. Pc on the other hand, that could work. The issue is that gaming would be relegated to a secondary hobby, a third class industry. Without any products dedicated specifically for video games, it would never be the same. The console needs to stay alive.

I totally agree with you,what I cannot understand is that there are so little "next gen" games being released that the notion the ps5 is in the later half of it's life span is absurd, personally I think that the biggest mistake Sony will make is to release the ps6 in the 2027 window as most games aren't even taking advantage of the tech at the moment and we haven't scratched the surface of what the ps5 is even capable of yet,long development of games plays a part in this too.

Playstation has always dropped titles on the newest console, and the previous generation console for the first couple of years of the new consoles life..... because not everyone can be a day one adopter of the new tech, and Sony still wants to make money off these games. Hell, ps2 was still getting new releases into the 2010's. I know it's hard for young people to wrap their brains around, but gaming and history existed before the year 2000.

Sony let Horizon Forbidden West go woke... The Sweet Baby Inc bs made sure of that. Talentless hack wacktivists made Aloy look like a butch lesbian and even wrote out all male characters that could've been love interests and replaced with female ones. This was a pivot from Zero Dawn, they even changed Elisabeth's name to Elisabet, and retconed some lore to fit better with DEI initiatives. The gameplay was good enough to play thru, but they nearly f-ed that up too with all the unnesecary grinding to upgrade your weapons and armor. Like what the f were they thinking?? If any of these negative aspects make it to part three, then I'm out. Zero Dawn was my literal fav PS4 game when I first played it, but then they completely jumped the shark with the Forbidden West story. A Ryzen 5500 and RX 7600 combo with a good NVMe and 16 gigs of 3200Mhz RAM costs $565 USD, and that gives you a tiny bit better raster performance than a PS5, altho it's basically the same thing, but it also has Radeon Anti-Lag and FSR 3 Frame Generation for both lower input latency and better performance, so you can have a much better experience with that PC. Like, you could run Dragon's Dogma 2 at 60 fps with just an FSR 3 mod, which the PS5 just can't do. Btw: Digital Foundry already made two videos of PS5 vs "similar level" PC GPUs, so the "games are better optimized on PS5" argument is a straight up lie, unless you're talking about The Last Of Us Part 1, but then you have a lot more games that are better optimized on PC, like the Hitman franchise, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Lords Of The Fallen, Alan Wake 2, Immortals Of Aveum, Remnant 2, etc. When you take into consideration that, on top of all that, you have access to way more games, way cheaper prices and you don't have to pay for online, so you save a lot of money in the long run, PC sounds like the better choice, which is why it's basically destroying console gaming in terms of numbers. It got to the point where you can't even compare both anymore. The only ones who still play on consoles are those who believe they are the better choice. Maybe they truly believe they're cheaper and worth getting for $500, like you. Maybe they believe exclusives are still relevant. Maybe they just don't care or know much about PC gaming. I don't want to sound like those elitist PC MASTER RACE "experts" on Twitter and Reddit, but I seriously urge you to move to PC. It's true that it can be a bit daunting if you don't have the know-how, but in my experience, it is 100% worth it. Don't be scared by the cost, because once you factor in fees from Playstation+ or other online services and the fact that you will still probably buy a laptop for work (which you might not necessarily need if you already had a desktop PC) the cost is pretty much the same. With PC you get way more freedom and choice both in the hardware itself and the games you can play. You can emulate console exclusives on your PC, but not PC exclusives on a console. I also feel like games are just much cheaper on PC with frequent massive sales on Steam and straight up free games from the Epic Games launcher or the Humble Bundle etc. Also, and this is 100% ironic and I am not condoning it in any way, shape or form, you can save a ton of money by just ignoring digital stores and those pesky copyright laws and just sail the seven seas 🏴‍☠

I bought Xbox Series S in 2021 because it was the only affordable gaming option. Even now if I wanted a decent mid range gaming PC, I'd need to throw the money from my entire savings and stop meeting with friends and stop having other hobbies. :/ I am fine with Series S and laptop than can do majority of the office job, as 4GB ram is enough to do it. While I agree that PC or gaming laptor is better, it is also extremely expensive to replace should sonething happen to it.

@@K.oShaud It's the best bang for your buck at the moment. You get most of the good games except for spider man 2 and the pointless last of us 1 remake. All you need is a ps3 and a ps4. You pay 10% of the money you would've spent on a remake. You get about 10 ps3 games for the price of 1 ps5 game, 5 ps4 games for the price of 1 ps5 game. Ps3 and ps4 games were made during a time where game devs were still passionate about the games they put out. So whatever game you get will not be a waste of money.
