For the 2nd gen xterra and frontier anything before 2010 had transmission and engine problems.

We've all bought vehicles that we ended up regretting. I bought a used '97 Cadillac Seville, 'nuff said.

@Doomzdayxx After 50k or so, the two pan seal starts pissing oil. God forbid the starter goes as you have to pull the intake manifold to replace it. Toyota thought that was a great idea as well with their 5.7 in the tundras or bmw with the 3 litre.
@Doomzdayxx2 ай бұрын
@@oldschooldude8370 yeah I never got to do the starter, but I agree it was stupid engineering. I remember that engine was packed in there pretty tight. My biggest issues were all electrical gremlins on that thing. I was a young dumb kid when I bought it. Oh and I overpayed WAYYYY too much for that. Live and learn I guess ....

Lol my 26 year old B16a swapped EK lives at 8200rpm. And there's tons of oldschool cars in Europe and Japan that Are 40 years old.

My friend has a 07 or 08 Xtrerra with over 270k miles, his is a 2wd manual transmission so he doesn’t have to worry about the transmission cooler bs. He hasn’t had any timing chain issues either. The only thing he has addressed are oil leaks and regular maintenance. He is a mechanic so he does it himself.
@mikebrock19652 ай бұрын
My 2006 got 17-18mpg. My timing chain started to rattle at start up at 86k miles so I got rid of it. If you got this far on the original timing chain you are fine. The problem with all Nissan V6 engines from the early 2000's was the plastic timing chain guides wearing early allowing the chain to stretch. If you don't have a rattle at start up or trouble codes related to the timing its good.

Never but anything with 209K miles and 16 yrs old. Also the 4.0 Nissan is the best engines Nissan has built, I have had all 3. Frontier, Xterra and Pathfinder, I still have all 3. All was bought with under 40k miles.

Somebody paid $5,000 for that junk? You got lucky, he got a terrible deal

You're a better man than me. I would have hunkered down with, "already paid x, might as well full send it" Have a 6.4 F350 rotting away in the yard. 5.5k bought, probably 9k in repairs.

If the car runs and drives its a good car mpg would be bad since its a suv of the frontier a truck and probably same platform.

Glad you got 5k for it. Yeah it was a pain in the ass, but you got out of it on the positive.

Id have to disagree i had a 05 with a timing belt these SUVs are quirky and fun to drive and they sit on a pickup frame same as the frontier mine went up to 280 k miles before i trashed it but it was my fault

The best is gone at over 200K because you have no service records you changng fluids does not make things new or neglected maintenance . I make 14 to 16 on a 1997 Ford Explorer that I bought in 1999. You got a vehicle that probably needs a new engine, tranny and rear end rebuld Most GM's never make 100K without falling apart. Not sure what your point was other than you made the wrong investment.

not really junk but will need extensive repairs that add up quick, even basic hoses are not cheap, i feel that overall he put that 2k in hes at 5500, which is pretty cheap for a fully functional car that will last a while before it needs more repairs it will be far cheaper than buying a newer xterra. hes still at 10k+ cheaper than buying a 2015 xterra which is the last year they made these. and if he bought like a brand new pathfinder or something hes savign about 20k+ to me it might be worth his trouble to fix and keep because even if you got a 2015 or newer it willl still need repairs eventually.
