"Sayang" means "regretful" so "Sayang na sayang" means "Really regretful". I used to try (keyword = try) to sing this song in the karaoke bar every time I feel down or really feeling bad over missed opportunities, wrong decisions etc. All Filipinos know this song.

Filipino Tip again: The word sayang may be closely translated as a waste. At times when a word repeats in Filipino, it's to emphasize the connotation. So Sayang na sayang is something like, "It is such a waste" but in this context, regret also makes sense. Oh and I acknowledge that part of the trouble of speaking Filipino is the inflections and emphasis on certain syllables. The emphasis in SAYANG is actually in the first syllable not second. SAyang not saYANG.. hope that's clear enough xD

Note that we were talking abt "sayang" as in "sayang na sayang" (regretting too much, or "what a waste!"); "SAya" meanwhile means skirt, as in "baro't saya" (traditional filipino women's blouse & skirt) -->so sayang pula, is red skirt. There's Miss Pilita Corales (Asia's Queen of Songs, if I remember right) who said she needed to bend herself to hit the high notes. You may react to her, she being an iconic figure of Philippine music. She sang with many known artists of her time like Sammy Davis Jr. and the like.
