There's even an internal joke where the excuse for the lowball is "we pay 5-10% of the market" lmao. But overall I think it boils down to the team (at least for me). If the difference between the offers is around 20%, I would choose one which has better WLB and more interesting work. I hope you enjoy your new endeavor! P.S. Was that for L4? I believe that would be high band of L4 or low band for L5, latter is more likely though.

This is why they can get away with lowballing, know your worth!!
@2RosarioVampire2 жыл бұрын
And that's why Google can get away with : low leveling (disrespecting candidate), lying (front loading), and lowballing (much lower offers). If you don't have any external offers, Google will do anything to ensure you get screwed over. And if you have competing offers, you still get screwed over but less. Compensation wise, the entire company is a joke. But it is very good at selling its image to the public as this 'dream place'. Internally, people who are experienced cannot get promoted after senior. And get blocked in their career growth. Still a great place though. But can definitely pay much below market. Also, Google hires almost everyone now (exaggerating) relative to the past. Big company ==> Many hires ==> Hiring bar falls. Same for all tech firms.
@Jarryd9992 жыл бұрын
@@2RosarioVampire Why is front loading a lie? I would have loved a front loaded offer when I started. Silicon Valley is so promiscuous, if you're staying longer than 2 years you're stale - I want most of my stock in those first two years! Also, Google does not do "anything to ensure you get screwed over" otherwise retention would be awful, which it's not. They do what they can get away with, and clearly that's a lot because life there is fucking awesome. Sure, getting to staff is really hard, and promo in general is slower than other companies, but IMO that's equally balanced by the rest of the package. If you need that promo, you can probably interview at L+1 elsewhere if you've been performing at L+1 anyway.
@2RosarioVampire2 жыл бұрын

Note that this is just upfront pay at the point of signing. His year to year salary would be the base salary + annual bonus (usually you get a bit less than the suggested bonus in my exp) The rest is just a one time fee and the RSUs are only given if you work for many years. So his salary would be more or less 200k. Which is certainly good but certainly not amazing for the industry standard

Google takes way too freaking long during team matching, hiring committee approval etc, honestly not even worth interviewing there imo due to lowballs and snails pace. Almost every other tech company will have their offer/decision to you in a week because they don’t want to lose you. Google on the other hand doesn’t seem to care and brand recognition and free food carries enough people through the hiring pipeline that these negatives on candidates experience aren’t addressed.

When I was interviewing for Google this January, it took 7 days from the moment I got thumbs up from the hiring committee to get team-matched with my manager (also met with 3 more managers within that time period). Either I got lucky or Google's team matching is not that bad

@H. B. I joined a startup after college and got an opportunity to design and develop a backend system from scratch. That way I learned a lot and had large impact on the final product. Plus, I conducted over 20 interviews myself, so I knew what interviewers usually look for. To join Google, I just submitted my resume online and got an email from recruiter.

For the google offer. The equity portion is good but the base AB’s bonus = cash component is the same as that of TikTok entry level
@LouisChiaki2 жыл бұрын
I think for most of the big tech companies, it is well known that you need to have competing offers in order to get higher offer. For Google, there are actual conditions on how the comp team can offer you what package under what conditions. My recruiter told me very clear about these at the beginning. It is not that they tried to lowball you. Giving them the screenshot of your competing offer is pretty common.
@rileyp37072 жыл бұрын
They did low ball because the first offer was lower than the market rate
