Not trying to hate, but the issue with the result here is not the team size or the software, its with the skill level of the artist. Now a day the only industry standard for doing water simulation is houdini. In pacific rims case ILM had their own water simulation engine. I blender you cant do much to get an actual usable water sim, but in this case your sim still has a very long way to get to blenders maximum potential. To give some feedback, the water simulation is extremely low, the particle size is huge an you can actually see water blobs. O the other side blenders flip fluids has some big limitations with collisions and velocit field advecting to the particles so the effect you´re looking for cannot be done with that plugin. Overall I think it wasnt the best idea to choose one of the most complex shoots of the film to recreate, any other shot with no water interaction would have been more succesful. If this kind of shoots is what motivates you go ahead! But a lot more complex and realistic water sims can be done with only blender.

Thanks for the feedback! I will try to keep pushing forward but watersimulations in general take alot of time so I tried to do the best with my limited time. And yes I know it is a super hard shot 😂 but I wanted to see how far I can come with my knoweledge. Next time I will alao try to use houdini 👀

i agree the sim has a long way go before it reaches blender's maximum potential but still with that said it wouldnt be as good as houdini which was literally built for simulations it is pointless to use blender for this unless you dont want good results

@@faebetutorials Always remmeber that with physical accurate sims the scale is really important too, that was the 1st problem! the robot had to be at correct scale in size and so should the water sim, that aside excellent video and keep going!

create small water effect like waves splashing but render them smaller, as image sequences with alphas, and then use cards as particles, if you randomise size and shape and orient to camera, you can fill in a large areas in the background of the model, and possibly mid ground, you can then save your splash renders for the fore ground saving your resources and time.

hi faebe i would suggest not to use blender for the fluid simulation of splashes and model's movement after some digging i found a software called liquigen which can generate fluid simulation and they can be imported to blender however it will never be able to give results like those in the movies you can try adding stock videos of splashes on planes and scattering them near the model also you should add a sun light in the scene with the HDRI so there are some reflections on the ocean surface or you can just use blender's inbuilt sky texture, it works like a charm

The scale of the robot and water per cubic meter doesn't show that the robot is a giant. in flipfluids there is a world setting where you can set how big the area of the plane is.

In simulation projects, blender is not good. It's very hard to set up the hair simulation and water simulation. It takes a lot of time to bake and it needs so much cache memory. In simulation cases try Houdini is the best way or may use VFX compositing on nuke or after effects by render the cg on layer based.
