I've rented my car on Turo for years. It paid my entire car payment plus some. I probably look at this different than most people pertaining to lending my car out to strangers. To me, a car is just a car and I lean on the insurance if something goes wrong. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but at the end of the day, it's just a bunch of metal and plastic. I've had a dirty car returned but doing so, the renters pay for it. All in all, I've had really good experiences with the service and basically get my car paid for. BTW, my car is a Tesla Model S and I've worked from home for the last ten years so my situation may be different than most. Still, it's a win win for me.

@@smamq The first time I used Turo was with our 2014 Audi A6. On average, that car rented for around 11 days out of the month. I had it listed for $75/day. It literally was making my car payments plus some. After 2 years, we traded it in for a Tesla. Tesla doesn't really go by the year of their cars, but it's a 2018 Model S 75d. I initially listed it for $130/day but after about a year, dropped it to $99/day. I also had a 2 day minimum initially but found it's better to offer it day to day (more people rent it for a day than 2 or more days, at least from my experience). The longest length from someone who's rented the S was for 3 days (that's the max I have it set for). I'm all for using uber but not longer than 3 days 😉.

I agree - if it's your karma for something bad to happen to your car it can happen while you're in the grocery store - why not rent it out n make a few bucks if you can n you're absolutely right ... metal n plastic can always be replaced - some material things have special sentimental value n that's understandable otherwise SHOW ME THE MONEY !!!

A few things to keep in mind for any Tesla owners considering this but are concerned they'd never get renters at a good rate: 1. Shelby lives in CA, the epicenter of Teslas where Model 3s are like Honda Accords, making it hard for any single one to stand out and reducing the cachet. Anywhere else, Teslas are harder to find, thus increasing the likelihood someone rents yours. 2. Shelby has an SR+ with basic autopilot which might limit how much she can rent the car for compared to a higher trim model. 3. Having a wrap on the car or some other custom mod would probably allow you to rent for a bit more money, or at least differentiate your car from the pack. Because of these factors, Shelby probably was dealing with among one of the worst case scenarios in terms of getting hits from renters and acceptable asking price.

I'm glad I read your comment. I'm in Colorado and did a quick search for a Model 3. Nothing under $300 a day. Crazy. Payment to purchase is $800ish a month so I can see how renting a Model S for a couple weekends a month can pay for the car. Too rich for my blood.

The first time(and only time) I used Turo was a couple weeks back actually and it was as a client. Around the end of September for a weekend. Anyway, I booked a trip from Dallas to Seattle. And when I arrived to the Tacoma airport, the destination to where the car was located was a little over 30 minutes(That uber ride was pricy lol). So, once I arrived to the destination to where the car was, the owner had actually left the vehicle's keys inside for me since he was out of town which I thought was weird since I am a stranger to him, but whatever. Once I put the cars in the ignition, the car wouldn't start!!! I was so mad, I called him to notify him and he said "Well, I just had the car fixed by the mechanic yesterday", HE COULDN'T HAVE LET ME KNOW THIS BEFORE I FLEW TO THE OTHER HALF OF THE COUNTRY!?. However, I calmly told him "Oh ok, well shit happens, I guess I'll just take another uber from here to my hotel then. Just keep me posted then". He then said "Well, go ahead and do that, I'll try to find someone to come take a look at it tonight". I paid, another hefty sum of money to be ubered from the Turo destination to downtown Seattle to where my hotel was. (30+ minute trip and expensive) And guess what that dang-on pos did? HE CANCELLED my booking once I arrived to the hotel and I couldn't find a car or do anything I wanted since I was left without a vehicle. After being on the phone with Turo for 3 hours (no exaggeration), they found me a last-minute car, (yay! So i thought). I in turn had to repay $250+ dollars AND an uber to drive me 40+ minutes the new Turo location. Turo said they would reimburse my uber rides but they never did. I spent my first day in Seattle crying in frustration and nervously laughing at every major obstacle I encountered. Y'all, Turo is great, if everything goes according to plan. It's horrible if you have to deal with customer service.

I agree it sounds like we should be taking some meticulous notes on their financial Savvy and there 8 figure portfolio That's because most people can't see to freedom from their face and think their own expense on a car is there payment and insurance Nobody factors in depreciation maintenance increased intervals for all that I would probably have to rent my car out a dozen times before would even cover a set of tires for my car But I guess if you want to pretend to be a big shot and have a nice car If you make 60 grand a year you shouldn't by over $25000 car That means if you buy a $75000 Tesla you should make hotter than 180 to 200 grand a year minimum And of someone made that kind of money they wouldn't be renting their car out Unless they had some sort of serious addiction And just think how many hours you have to spend sorting stuff out if something does happen if u make 60k a year 40hrs wk u earn just under 40 an hour So you spend 15 to 20 hours sorting that stuff out that's another 1000 In unaccounted for expense Unless you don't value your time

@simeasy434 жыл бұрын
@@themeparkdad I have a wrap on mine so he scratched the hood and the door handles. He scuffed my rims. He broke my entire front lip by going too fast on a speed bump. He left trash in the car and gave me my car back with less than 20% at an airport...

@@simeasy43 Yeah not cool at all. It seems like at least they should've covered the broken front lip and rim rash. Was the damage not enough for the deductible, "the before" photos not clear enough to show the damage, or they just wanted to avoid the claim in general? I'm very sorry that your car got damaged.

Do not forget to deduct some cash for wear. Tires, components etc. It all needs to be taken into account as well. Just a tip from old O/O of tractor/trailer trucks. If you expect to rent lots and do not think about wear and tear of the vehicle it will bite you in the butt later on. Good luck and stay safe.

Is Turo worth it "yes until 2019" will I continue renting my car on Turo 'Hell No in 2021.' Think about it before you rent your car to people...... but if you don't care about people putting 6000 mileage in your car within a month, go ahead.

I started out renting out my RV thru RVShare and its been about 2 months and made some pretty decent money. But I will tell you that parts come back missing, Sometimes it will have broken parts that can be charged from the security deposit but its constant fixing. Not all clients are like this some are very good RVs and have past experience. They are the best ones to rent it to. You need to be selective with renters. Some people are just not the right people to rent it too. Its a drop in the hat and you will have to just go with your instinct

Problems with damage or mistreatment while renting your car out is NOT an “if”, but a “WHEN”. Eventually you WILL have the car come back abused. Period. So, you just need to be prepared for when it happens.

I made a few rather modest investments in individual companies There are so many stocks going to rocket in the long run... right now safe to invest in an ETF that tracks the S&P500 and ride it out. I put $500k into some growth stocks with a Financial advisor/broker handling my portfolio... some of my picks are, NVR, LISP.SW, SEB ,DOWJ, BRK-A, AAPL, NYSE, NASDAQ, TSLA, I've had a 110% increase so far this year , just felt to share ..

Great Video very informative. I did Turo back in 2018 from June to March 2020 and made over $39000 during that time. I started out with a cheaper car Nissan Versa and had up to 8 cars on the platform at the height of the venture with Turo. I totally understand her stress about renting her new car, and I would not do that either, I stuck to renting cars that would cost me from $2300 to about $9000 each, with the majority under $5000. Turo was good about if someone damaged the vehicle, I would see the money pop up in my account, no hassle at all. So If it wasn't for Covid I would have continued expanding, and now that things are getting back to normal I am considering doing it again and most likely will invest in cheaper low maintenance vehicles, that way I can sleep well at night. Thanks.

Question about renting your car out, how does Turo remove the liability of you being the owner and someone else running over someone and killing them? How would you not be sued as well as the driver? Ae we know lawyers will go after everyone with money in a case like this. Just seems very dangerous to let strangers take your property while you are still ultimately responsible the car?
