I actually did the transition, works great. Add an iPad as an addition for banking apps at home and some that aren't available on your watch. But going out with only your watch is great! I can only recommend an Ultra, even if its the gen 1 in used. Its worth it.

Wish I could connect/activate an Apple Watch with an iPad or Mac and ditch the iPhone completely. Apple Watch + iPad Mini would be a great combination where I could just use the Watch for Day-to-day activities without being distracted, but still have the bigger iPad screen for when I need it and can easily throw it in a bag

i have the first special edition watch and although it is outdated as of this year, i still absolutely love it. no, it cannot replace your phone. but its a nice tool for convenience and it helped me maintain physical activity after the lockdown. it also contacted help when i slipped in the winter and couldn’t get up.

To clear some thing ups, the Ultra 2 doesn’t gain the speaker you can use for media, also, you don’t have to pause cycling workouts… never do, never did, the watch does it by itself. If you want to navigate while riding a bike, just leave the maps app open, the workout app will handle pause and continue by itself… as if you never used an Apple Watch

I love love love my ultra watch 2 and I just got the series 10 for working out and sleep tracking. Smart watches could one day replace phones, but they have a lot long way to go! I do use my watch only without taking my phone at the gym but that’s about it.

I also want to add, for anyone with an Apple Watch trying this at home. Just make sure your carrier is correctly giving your Apple Watch this ability. Sprint or T-Mobile were doing something weird where a refresh was needed in order to use the watch without a phone. I say this because if the phone is near and you try to answer a call on your watch. It will still try to pull from your phone and it causes a person on the other end to not hear you and just not a good phone call experience. It’s like the watch and phone are competing for your affection or something.

I just got my s10 delivered! Updated for the thinness and jet black color from the s9! I never wore my watch all day because it looked so dorky but it’s so much more subtle now actually and I think I can finally use it to track my activity all day instead of just for workouts

I hope the next Apple Watch finds the sweet spot between the 10 and the Ultra 2. I want a big screen with enough battery life to go the day and night on LTE, in something that's not as massive on the wrist as the current Ultras. I'm to the point where I can absolutely spend all day out and about in NYC without my phone without any issue, but the battery stress keeps my phone calls and my screen-on time shorter than I would prefer, and I have to head home when I get to ~20% battery on my series 7. If only the Ultra wasn't so bulky!

Would be cool if these watches added a small camera on the edge pointing away from you. The banking app in my country uses a QR code to authorize with the phone. If the watches got that capability i could almost consider getting rid of my phone all together.

I have an Apple Watch 5 with cellular. It works great as a standalone device for most things, but not everything. Whole Foods doesn't have a Watch app so I can't get a Prime in-store discount code on it, have to have my phone for that. Also you can't upgrade major Watch versions without an iPhone. I had an iPhone 8 up till last year and I couldn't upgrade my watch to last year's version until I upgraded my phone which was no longer getting upgrades as of last year. If it wasn't for that, I probably would not have upgraded my phone. But my workout app has a watch app so I can usually leave my phone at home and be just as connected without it using the watch.

They have both versions. Everything works without cellular EXCEPT online maps, streaming music, etc. but you can download most things for offline use. And GPS does not need Internet

Does the watch hold up in a hot shower? I would be tempted to wear it during showers with the weather sealing + water temperature and to see how my heart rate changes, but also I know the extra temperature can create pressure that violates seals and cause fogging etc. Do you do this regularly S? Maybe you only do cold lol

How do you call this a "test" are various points, but never once really acknowledge that the watch failed multiple scenarios as well as the overall goal? Good video mate , and truly amazing technology , i am pretty much a technology caveman in a lot of ways , my young brother (tech/It dude ) when i dont understand something technology related when i ask him to explain looks at me directly in the eyes and shakes his head side to side :) , . I have been seriously thinking about the big apple smart watch , the more of it i see , the more i like . I`m retirement age and too worn out for most of the health stuff , i do try and walk though and try and keep a track of my step count , having the GPS , apple pay on the watch and phone capability and being able to leave the phone at home is a very big plus ( especially if you are old and forgetful ) . One other thing just occurred to me , does the watch monitor your heart rate all the time , you know , in case one of us old farts has a stroke or something :) . Good video , thanks for posting !
