Just so that you know next time you'll make waffles: you're not supposed to mix egg white foam with a mixer. The reason we use egg white foam is to have a fluffy mixture. When you use mixer all this fluffyness goes away. You just need a big spoon (or a spatula) and carefully mix by hand with delicate bottom to top movements. Don't be afraid if there are spots you see a lot of egg white. Either way it'll spread in the waffle maker.

Dude old waffle makers are great, we have one up at our cabin, when I was a kid we would make waffles on the wood stove, just make sure you put plenty of grease or spay butter before you pour in the batter or it will stick terribly. Also heat the waffle maker before putting in batter, if you put the batter in and let it warm up then the waffle will also stick.

I was looking for just this comment. And I'll add this, because we're nitpicking, right?: you put the mixer's beaters into the mix BEFORE you turn them on, not after. Think cement mixing by hand, if you're using a hand tool. Otherwise you'll have powder all over you and every other nearby surface. But you're a restorer not a construction worker or cook, so we'll forgive. It's SUCH a beautiful restoration.

Love your videos! Next time you make waffles, try mixing your yeast with some warm milk and let it activate, then mix in the rest of the wet ingredients, then pour and mix into the dry ingredients. Pour into the heated waffle iron on one side (both sides should be hot though, so preheat a bit beforehand), close the lid then half way through cooking flip the iron (in one piece) and finish on the second side. You will get a more even colouring and fluffier waffles :)

These looked better now than when new. We had similar ones to use over a campfire. Best waffles ever. Oh, and only German engineering would create a pencil sharpener like that. Beautiful.

Between Polishing the castiron and using a soldered bronze pin, I'm surprised you went this route. I'm my experience, an oil seasoning surface doesn't stick to polished metal as well as it does to a porous metal surface. It chips. I would also think that the temperature of the campfire is enough to make a bronze pin fail.

to be honest normally there is a round metal plate where the iron fits in so when you bake the waffles at the halfway point you can turn the iron. Then you have 2 equal baked sides. Also i would use a gas burner because its gets hotter. Normally you have to hear a sissing sound when you put the dough into the iron.

It was in great condition for its age. He could see its possibilities. Thats how you need to look at old things. Are there major cracks in the metal? Is it rusted 'through or just 'rusty'? Huge difference. One sees negatives. One looks for possibilities.
