Awe, that second story gives me so much warm and fuzzies. It's so nice when a guy is pinning for someone AND the other party has dropped enough obvious hints that it's just CUTE when the happy ending pays off. It's a palate cleanser after one too many stories of guys (and sometimes girls) projecting a relationship where there is none, or worse, not taking no for an answer.

@Sanquinity

Yea it was so obvious, though that's easy to say from the outside. Already living together, being that close all the time and her liking that, "jokes" about wanting to do that stuff with her boyfriend, falling asleep on him and not minding going to the bathroom when he's taking a shower, wanting to travel with him, commenting on how funny he is. She was DEFINITELY into him as well, but wanted him to "make the first move". (which was kinda stupid of her, but a bit more understandable considering, you know...) If I had been his friend I would have smacked him over the head and scolded him for how dense he was. Like "really dude? She's practically waving a big flag saying "I love you, ask me out!" in front of your face and you're still unsure!? Stop being so dense and ask her out, or so help me god I will personally go to her and tell her for you!"

The first story is vile. How selfish of the mom/sister. How selfish of her parents. I feel for OP and his Dad. There is no reason to not tell someone who isn't abusive that they are going to be a parent. Seriously. The fact she didn't want to raise OP but didn't want his father to raise him is selfish. To keep it from both of them, is selfish. To not have told the husband as soon as they reconnected, is selfish. To me OP's mom/sister is vile. It never should have been a secret.

I have learned that guys do not take hints well, subtle or not. There are so many times I have had to tell my guy friends that they were being flirted with and such and such girl was interested in them. None of them realized when they were being flirted with until I pointed it out. A lot of them are now married to the woman I pointed out who was interested in them lol.

Part of it is probably fear. Negative reactions can get...intense, if the guy is wrong about possible hints. "The worst she can say is no" is totally wrong. Just saying no is actually the least worst thing that can happen. So most of us have adopted a mindset of "she's probably just being friendly" for even seemingly obvious hints. The guy in story 2 though? He wasn't just "getting hints", he was having multiple big flags waved in front of him with big bold letters saying "please ask me out already!!" :P It was kinda on her as well, as she could have asked as well. But considering how society still kinda conditions the mindset of "the guy should make the first move" it's a bit more understandable. Just remember this ladies: Unless you're trying to go for a 8/10 or up, there's a VERY good chance that the guy will at least very seriously consider dating you if you ask. Most guys really aren't that picky and just happy that a girl/woman showed interest in them! :P

First story. I know how OP feels. I found out (From my late mother) that I was adopted When I was 51! My parents hide it from me for my fathers "pride" He passed when I was 33. They did everything in their power over the years to keep me away from anyone in the family who might slip and tell me the big secret! Needless to say I did not have a great relationship with either one of them.

Story 1: Ah yes. I doubt this story will get old. OP finding out his sister is his mom, mom married bio-dad, but also said Bio-dad wasn't even allowed to find out about OP. Bio-mom and/or Parents, are complete dicks, they only apologies once everybody started to shame them. They only apologized for their own sake. Story 2: This sounds so much like a romcom, he needs to sit down his roommate and ask about the whole situation. S2 update: I totally believe she was trying to get him to finally make a move because she was just as scared she would ruin the relationship. She was likely at a breaking point and the moment he said "I'm in love with you" the dam broke. This still feels like a romcom.

The story in the comments of story 2 of the wife asking the husband out reminds me of my hubs. We met working together although in different departments. We would chat and I’d drop hints. He wanted to ask me out but he wanted to friend me on PlayStation first. The only issue with that is, I have an Xbox. He did eventually ask me out thanks to my best friend. She also worked at the same place too. We’ve been together 5 years and just got married last month.

My brother J. was actually my aunt's child. She was 15 when she gave birth to him and had no interest in being a mom already, and my mother was in her mid 20s and married. So they somehow pretended that J. was my mother's child, and six years later, I came along. The only people in the know were the ones directly involved in the switch: my aunt, my mother, her husband (my father) and my grandparents. He grew up thinking he was my mother's biological child, while I thought he was my biological brother. I'm not sure if they would have EVER told him, but when he was 16, he was searching for something, rummaged through a few boxes and accidentally found his birth certificate. You can imagine that he felt betrayed and was extremely angry and upset. After that, it all went downhill. Alcohol, drugs, harder drugs, petty crime, and eventually, the drugs literally messed up his brain. He fell into a coma, and when he woke up from it (which nobody had expected), he had the mental capacity of a little boy. It turned out that his liver was also really messed up, and he eventually died from sepsis of the liver when he was 45 years old. Of course, nobody can tell how his life would have gone, had they sat down with him and explained at a reasonable age, but I often wonder.

24:04 LMFAO. As someone that has considered myself, shy for my entire life. I've had my fair share of bed partners and relationships. Everything just seemed like such an effort like a chore. 2006 my girlfriend living with me, accused me of cheating. I NEVER have, and even declined when my girlfriend's had asked to get a 3rd party involved in our relationships. As it turns out, I'm Asexual and Aromatic. So I have no libido, nor the desire to be in a relationship, of any sort, with anybody. I am extremely happy by myself, all the time. Then in 2019, I was sent to a psychiatrist, due to sleeping problems. As it turns out, at age 51 (now 53), my personality and character was described as "triple A". That's because not only am I asexual and aromatic, but now I've been diagnosed as high functioning autistic. My self perceived awkwardness, in !I've has been the result of autism. I just wish I had known about these "triple A" in my childhood, because it would have saved me a bunch of BS, because I wouldn't have wasted my life for decades, pretending to be somebody I wasn't, just to try fitting into a society that NEVER accepted me in the first place What a F--king waste of my life, trying to cater to a bunch of fk heads that only saw me as an easy target, then stole money, plus other crap, because I couldn't see the fking games that people play, before it was too late. I now have people and only deal with others to earn money so I can finish sorting a caravan and van out. Then bugger off well away from this lie called "a civilized society", then disappear fully off grid. NEVER married and never had kids, so there's nothing keeping me here to put up with the BS, that others throw around my way.

It’s a good thing he took it for consideration, but as a guy who has hanged out with girls who see me as a best friend, I don’t take that kind of talk as “I want you as my bf” at least not until I get the full picture. I'm not going to condone lying here, but OP is 21 now, a full fledged adult, so adoption and parental rights are a mute point now. with the first story, sorry but I have to disagree with the NTA. it's not "his truth" to tell anyone. it's none of the rest of the families business. and I say that as someone who grew up without knowing my "sister" was my birth mother. yeah, I wanted to know every single detail, but pushing her to tell me isn't the way to go about it. nobody is "owed" anything, especially when it's someone else's story/truth. did op have a rotten upbringing? Or was he loved, well cared for? sounds to me like he wasn't "lied to" at all. there's a difference between a lie & not offering information. his adopted parents didn't lie to him, just didn't offer up the info.
