@@rajlingam7441 this is the typical attitude of many sales people in Singapore: "I am only salespeople". Sales staff have the duty to ensure that the correct product or service info is conveyed to the customers, or else people might as well just bypass them and buy online. Physical shopping is about the customer service experience and getting face to face advice (not face to face smoke to just make us buy regardless). The salesperson's product knowledge and recommendation becomes all the more important for customers who are laypeople. In many other countries such as Japan, salespeople go through rigorous training to actually know the products they are selling, not pretend to know. And....... Knowing and understanding the specs, capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses of IT products hardly qualifies one as a "technical expert".

As a foreigner, I've had my own experience in Sim Lim with a local friend who had taken me around to buy some PC upgrades for my computer at home. One store I found was pretty accommodating when it came to selling me a B450, R5 5600 combo at a decent price. I was able to haggle the price down to where he could include two artic case fans at the same price, which was nice. While I can see why people are afraid of coming here, I'd say its still hands down much nicer to see parts in person, and to see how your computer is being built. Buying individual parts of course is a store-to-store experience, as I think that my motherboard was an already used part, but in amazing condition, since its been serving me since 2022 :---)

Part of the fun of building your own PC is picking the parts that suit YOUR needs and potentially that of the future when its time to upgrade. So i really suggest dont go to this type of shops and try chat with them that you have budget all that, if you really want like that just buy customs like aftershock or dynacore or whatever, still get better value than prebuilts like dell/hp whatever and you can really get something within your budget with minimal hassle

Just want to let u know... I know this because I'm in the trade... the price fluctuate not because of the sim lim retailers wanting to make a higher margin on different people. Every week or 2 weeks distributor either mark up the cost of some product or make it cheaper. And when distributor mark up... sim lim retailers have to mark up because they don't make huge margin per item... For example today ram cost 87... sim lim sell 95... tomorrow cost is 95... simlim have to sell at 100. People tend to think of retailers as the bad guys... most of the time it's the distributor and manufacturers....

Sim Lim used to be a good place to shop back before online retail started coming up but now it's just a troublesome shark's den that isn't worth going for unless you want to haggle like crazy. These days you can find plenty of cheaper options online, be it overseas like Amazon/Newegg or even local online dealers at Lazada/Shopee (heck, even some of the stores at Sim Lim have their own online shops/channels). Sure, you can find certain items cheaper locally just due to import/shipping fees, but generally I would recommend those living in Singapore who are less experienced to compare prices online against the price lists of physical stores at SLS (you can find most of their updated price lists online) and see where you can save a buck. Also, the bargaining at SLS isn't for everyone, and to see this culture still existing in 2021 is pretty sad. If you want to haggle there, make sure you know how much the part is actually worth and be firm about dropping the price or you can forget about it.

other shops can't help but package their PSU, cuz if your a shop and you wanna get something like a decent product like lets say 3090s or something along those lines, you need to get 10 monitors of this kind and 10 PSU of this kind and 10 of this etc. only for 1 single qty of that high tier product, that's why some shops are package selling or will only sell specific parts if guaranteed you'll buy past a specific threshold amount or let them build it.

Hi, I’ve been going to SLS since 1996/1997. I’m a experienced computer technician. There are many things to consider on the choice for single stick or kit of 2 RAM. Single stick is more flexible for warranty claims/exchanges. If you have a kit of 2 RAM set, if one of the modules fails, you have to send both modules for RMA process. As for AMD cpus tend to run hot, that is a well known fact for AMD. I almost never see a stock AMD cooler being used, always see them in the trash for recycling. If you truly want to have the best experience configuring your specifications, do your homework on price availability and do it yourself.
@ZXTech3 жыл бұрын
To just blindly assume AMD CPUS run hotter based on trends and stereotypes without conclusive objective data is to falsely and erroneously ignore development and changes in design and manufacturing in the last 10 years, which have been massive in the CPU game, and it also ignores that there are many different designs, and each product and cycle is drastically different.
@ZXTech3 жыл бұрын
The stock cooler was perfectly sufficient for my 3700x in the past, and if we're basing this on anecdotal evidence alone there's a counter point in itself. I do agree on your ram point though.
@generationscomputersystems3 жыл бұрын
@@ZXTech I do agree that the information is anecdotal for AMD based systems over the years. But I do see AMD based systems not being able to hold its resale value and last for more than 3 years without complications. AMD cpus are like 'bottle rockets'. It's quick at the start and blows up. Intel cpus are like 'booster rockets'. It does the heavy lifting and reusable.

Yea pls do PC Themes! I'm not sure if they are pushy, misleading or not as I've only always went in to grab the exact part I need, but I find their customer service fantastic... wayyyyy more sincere and earnest than all the other shops in Sim Lim
@raydentay91713 жыл бұрын
Great job. I just went there last week and had a short tour around. Most of the shops will look at you like a log, they are ready to chop you. Appreciate the honest reviews, efforts and time spent on this video. Thumbs up!

At this point of time when like pc parts are short in supply , having 1500 as a budget is kind of difficult to make do with, like you will not get the value out of every dollar you were to spend now
@RonLarhz3 жыл бұрын
Nah. it's just tech prices in sg always higher. Plus the lack a proper pc parts retailer. So these shady shops manage to survive. If someone were to start an organized pc building shop with competitive prices,i think sim lim will close diwn if they cant match. Even sg parents are starting to send their kids to coding schools. So the demand n interest of pc building might increase..

I have to agree that most ( not all ) are looking for big spender who are willing to splurge on a rtx3080 or even 3090. There is always a PC for every budget. They should already have in mind ( if they are that professional and knowledgeable) what to recommend base on every budget. Thank you for making this video.

PC Builder in SLS is reliable? Most people recommend go Aftershock, Dreamcore or Mansa Computers
@SaschaRobitzki Жыл бұрын
Not sure about that, I wouldn't do that at SLS. I would only go there if you're okay to buy the parts from different shops and build it yourself.

Is it still really worth building a PC? Or should i just buy a prebuilt one because im not techsavy and dont know whats the better parts i need for a pc to do it on my own

Fuwell really is dismissive, regret giving them money. brought my buddy to build a pc there and they forgot to install the NVME SSD that we paid for. then give attitude when we brought it back and asked them to install it and windows again. bruh

I personally feel tradepac is more for those who decently knows their stuff, And i mean those people that knows what they want and what the part they want does. Not for those who hope to go in "hey i got 1.5k to spend, so recommend me a build". I built my own pc, my sister's and 4 other pc for my close friends and all bought from tradepac, i write down a list on what are the parts i want and get them to get it for me to their shop. Negotiating the price is up to you entirely tho i usually don't cause i find that their price is cheaper than alot of other shops. To put in a fair word, they would infact try to upsell you, but that's on the consumer that goes to simlim square with zero or near zero computer knowledge. Some other shops would do so much worst to you tbh. Still a much better choice than a certain PC building company that sells majority of their builds with a FSP collaborated 80+ bronze PSUs for builds around 1.5k and claims to be singapore no.1 pc building company whom i used to work as a builder for a couple of months :P

Yes, AMD Ryzen chips do run hotter, that's definitely true. I have both the Intel 10700 and AMD 3700x, both 8C/16T 65W TDP. At idle the Intel will draw roughly 20w while the AMD does 33w. At consistent moderate cpu load of 15% Intel does 65w while the AMD does 90w.

it depends on how you define "Gaming PC". Some would think you want the top notch components like the RTX 30 series or RTX in general. Others might think of it as something that is purely just capable of running a game.

What do you think about just buying Pc straight from aftershock?
@ZXTech3 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea to get prebuilt, less hassle, probably more cost but not by much
@Self.Service3 жыл бұрын
Ask for GPU that has LHR (Low Hash Rate) this should be more cheaper compared to the pricey GPU $3xxx above(non-LHR). This GPU (LHR) is only intended for gamers and not good to use for mining, So GPU with no LHR will be more expensive compared to the GPU that has LHR. This is to help gamers to grab GPU's that is only intended for gaming.

Don't really like going to sim lim to buy parts since i can probably get it cheaper somewhere else and parts selections for ram especially is pretty bad, like the ram almost all the time will cost like 10% to 20% more than amazon and they sell almost exclusively bad to medrocre dimms, 3200 cl16 and 3600 cl18, like Crucial ballstix 3600 cl16 exists, and that is already faster at XMP and much faster after tuning with timings or cranking the clock speed and it costs the same
