Why peoples buy old rings?

People sometimes buy old rings because when they are leveling a toon with heirloom gear they might not have heirloom rings because they are harder to get. So as they level they buy the rings along the way if they need them. This is changing though because there is at least one easy heirlooms ring available now in the pre patch event.
