This is it. The big fix. The final character flaw of Gru to overcome: overprotectiveness. For a franchise to have so many movies while still being interesting, there needs to be character flaws to overcome. Gru was a literal supervillain who adopts poor orphans just for evil plans, possibly the most flawed a character can get. In the first movie, we see Gru fixing relationships with the girls. In the second, we see him become an AVL member with a true love interest, becoming a character who does things for good. In the third movie, we see him further develope his love for the girls and his dedication to good. In the fourth movie? There’s not much to gain, Gru’s character is pretty good and they already did further re-development in the third movie. In fact, they resorted to prequels, to show how he got character flaws in the first place. The only thing left to do is a wrap-up of the series. But no, instead we got yet ANOTHER development movie on a character that has not much to develop. And 90% of the humor is slap-stick with minions or gas filling with the villain. This is perfect, a wrap-up of the series reusing all previous villains (demonstrating his past flaws) and showing a new flaw developed from him becoming a family man: over-protectiveness. Additionally, unlike in DM4, we actually get FAMILY BACKSTORY to the Gru family in his DM5. When it lacks in the First Movie’s major character growth, it makes up for in an interesting extension AND a relevant message. This is art.

This is nice. But what would you think of a prequel spin-off origin film of Gru's daughters/the gorls explaining how their parents died and how they became orphans while giving them depth and characterization. And yes this idea would also be similar the PPG movie as well. Where they would get manipulated by the villain of this movie after meeting him off the street and would later have to defeat him also after learning that he manipulated them into building his weapon to destroy the world by turning the town against the girls and causing them to hate them. It would definitely make up for their lack of screentime and focus they've been getting in these follow up films. What would you think?

I think a better idea would to have Dru, rather than ruining continuity and saying that Gru's dad is alive... and I think it should be revealed who helped Scarlet escape before the post credits scene because not everyone is gonna watch the post credits scene. Also I think the movie should focus more on Dru if taking this approach and have the previous villains be his horsemen. I mean there is already a movie of Scarlet being the villain. Other than that, decent script, better than Gru Jr.

This is pretty cool, I like it when people come up with ideas to improve or fix things like this. I also had my own idea. I thought that despicable me 4 was cool, but I think the movie could’ve been better if they leaned more into the whole double life thing. Like maybe after Maxime escapes he decides to do some research on Gru and finds out about all of his past enemies. So Maxime decides to break them out of jail,so they can all target Gru and his family. So now Gru has to live a double life. 1 where he tries to blend in and be normal, and another one where he continues doing spy stuff in order to take down these villains and protect the people he cares about and we can use this as a chance to allow Gru and Maxime more of a chance to interact through out the story. Other plot points like the super minions can still be included. Maybe they can help finish the villains off or play an important role during the climax.

@FilmFixer361 Here are the best parts of this rewrite: 1) Scarlett Overkill and Herb escaping prison and how she defeats all the agents trying to stop them (you did a good job referencing Minions) 2) Lucy's interactions with Perry Prescott - I could only imagine the awkwardness that would result from those moments 3) How Scarlett sets free the old villains 4) The AVL paying homage to Home Alone 5) The Michael Jackson music being played by Balthazar Bratt (GREAT despicable me 3 reference) 6) The AVL vs the villains fight 7) El Macho and the villains holding Lucy hostage, planning to kill her, and giving a ransom note to Gru (Love how you reference the first film when Vector writes a ransom note to Gru after he kidnaps the girls and PERFECT reference to Despicable Me 2 simultaneously 8) The climactic fight - This is the DM4 I WISH was in theaters

He is Gru's brother and a problem with despicable me 4 was that it disregards continuity by having the minions back with gru and having Dru be not chased by the avl.
