That’s funny- I have always asked for a short trim over the bottom and groin area for our poodle and oodle- we laughingly call it a shaved Brazilian! We like it shorter in summer for their comfort (we live in Australia), but always say to our groomer that whatever they think is best is great- and they are great! We’ve been loyal to them for forever. A groomer knows their needs best (if they’re good), our dogs and us are happy. Trust your groomers knowledge!! 🙌

My Siberian husky (a VERY fluffy butt similar to that of a long haired husky or a malamute) rarely gets clingers (I mean if his tummy is upset I def have to clean down there but rarely) yet dogs with curly or more fine hair it always gets stuck to.

My dog has a little nubbin for a tale. It's most likely from her ancestors being clipped so many times, as most rat terriers are. She was just born with a nubbin. One of her litter mates had a little flap of skin for a tail. Anyways, I pretty much constantly see her butthole. She's definitely not shy about anything really. lol Thank god she's a short haired, no fuss no guss, type of dog. The only thing we really have to worry about grooming wise is clipping her nails and getting her teeth cleaned. Because her breathe smells like the other end. She's a beautiful little bean, probably the most beautiful dog I've ever seen (a beautiful little redheaded rat terrier with doe eyes and big ears and a spot on the side of her body that looks like an upside-down heart. Though, I think it's her sensitive loving and motherly nature that makes her even cuter. I don't call her my lovebug for no reason lol), but she definitely is a tomboy dog. That's what happens when you raise her with a wild older brother, who passed earlier this year, my first baby and a total lovable dickhead. She's definitely the princess of the house, though. Even if she shows her butthole off to everybody she knows. lol

You just made me feel bad for doing the home "Covid cuts" on my poodle! When I get the Clippers and stuff out, she goes into Limp Noodle mode, which evidently means she hates it. I've now made an appointment with the groomer!

I do it to save money and honestly my baby looks fine. No need to feel bad, if you’re cutting their fur in a safe manner that’s a-ok, no obligation to make them look picture perfect so long as they’re happy and healthy

Don't worry about it. I had a ton of customers do covid cuts on their dogs and when they came back everyone got cleaned up and no one left looking too funny 😂

Yes. After 3 months of growth, my dog's hair will matt and no amount of brushing will prevent it. She's a maltese, bichon and poodle mix and so her hair is that difficult mix of types like some doodles have. Worth the trouble though, for how sweet and pretty she is. I used to be able to clip her myself for touchups between grooms until she got it done once at the vet for an emergency ultrasound. Since then, she has been fearful of clippers and so I found a great groomer to work with her. After our first long covid closure, I turned her over to her groomer with a strange uneven cut that I had to do totally with safety scissors. But it relieved her of the matting until her groomer could fix her up again. And she did!

I once was cutting my hair and ended up stabbing myself in the face. At first I was super scared I had stabbed myself in the eye, but it turned out I stabbed my eyebrow bone instead. Ended up with a concussion. I think that may have been the last time I cut my hair. Haha. (In case you're wondering, my hair is super long now, the longest it's ever been, past my butt.)

@ The Pack Rat Omg that happened to me, and I mean exactly how you describe, as a teenager in the late 80s I went to this salon called What's Cutting, in the UK, long gone now, and I took a picture in of a wavy bob slightly scrunched, as my hair was thick and naturally wavy, and the stylist chopped my hair and thinned.... when she finished I saw myself in the hand mirror and she was smiling and said it looked lovely. It was horrific, like a chopped pineapple, Helen Shapiro but wrong and tufts, bald bits. I got ridiculed at school, I cried at home, and it took about a year to properly grow out. I've never been to a salon since and do a pretty reasonble job myself of trimming the lengths and fringe.
