I don't think it was intended as a burn at all. Sonny has a childlike curiosity. Spooner was being 'racist' against robots. Sonny then innocently showed that he sees Spooner and other humans as an equal.
@rattamundo10 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. Sonny showed later that he is very capable of sarcasm; when he is drawing his dream, he says to Spooner: "You were right, detective. I can not create a work of art." or something along those lines. Seems quite sarcastic to me.
@Annihilationzh10 жыл бұрын
That could have been Sonny being humble. Saying that he can draw, but he can't draw a masterpiece. It depends entirely on how you interpret it, and I don't think it fits Sonny's character at all for him to be sarcastic. Calvin spared Sonny because he was so innocent and child like.

Andrew yes but their jobs are presumably guards or enforcers who usually deal with human criminals. The 3 laws prevented robots from harming humans, there's no real plan to dealing with one who would rebel because it was supposed to be impossible. In any case, the robots are stronger than the humans. They didn't know if Sonny would've tried to kill Spooner - so they sent in big, tall, strong guys because that's the best they have. That's more or less why they're in there, even if they're aware that they wouldn't do much good.

0:55-1:10 is probably my favorite part of this scene along with Sonny's "Can you?". We tend to agree with Spooner when he explains to Sonny that he can't possibly understand this "human action" because it is not just a physical action, but a psychological action as well. Only later in the movie when we see Sonny wink at Spooner during his ruse against Viki do we realize that Sonny actually understood the action the whole time.

It’s a learned action. I’m fairly confident that since Sonny was handmade by Lanning and not on the NS5 network, he wouldn’t have known a whole lot of things which is why he asked Spooner to explain it to him the first time and used it himself later, cuz he’s learned since then.

I must've had a bad copy of this or something, the sound work in this scene is double-plus good! The soft whirs and whines of Sonny's movements, the stretching tension of his muscles banding tighter and tighter under stress until he craters the table in a rage before slacking almost immediately.. this is some good stuff for an already lovely scene~

0:29 Never noticed the trigger discipline of the guards before. The ones on the left lower their guns, cause the detective gets in the way but the others keep theirs trained on the robot. Also can we appreciate Smith's acting in this movie? I like him as is, but in this particular movie he was genuinely brilliant in my opinion.
