This movie itself is a genuine masterpiece: Talks about existentialism, the idea of self, what it means to exist, and identity. It shows that being human requires more heart and the ability to love is more than enough to consider your true self. A beautiful story well told, ahead of its time.

I like this movie because it’s different than most robot movies it’s not about a robot rebellion or an uprising it’s about just a robot that learns human emotions and slowly becomes more and more human like

@@hacked2813 you see, we are doing our own job by creating robots. Because, robots have no free will yet so they are “tools” is like telling someone using a hammer to make a house that he isn’t doing the house himself but the hammer is making the job for him. So robots until they get actually free will, they are tools that can and will be used by humans. :D pd: if u have any problem understanding let me know, English isn’t my first language.
@Gnomelander1400
@Gnomelander1400 3 жыл бұрын
@@hacked2813 the first fallacy of your comment is 1. that will slow the progression of humanity and technology. Robots are totally ok, they can’t feel emotion, they’re not conscious or anything. AI is the real deal, we shouldn’t let them get their hands on machines and robots. 2. Telling people we shouldn’t create robot to do stuff is like telling people we shouldn’t drive and should just walk on the ground or that we shouldn’t cook food using pots and pans but instead the ground. That logic is so irrational. The third fallacy is that humans are ever so limited to the body. Sure we can enhance ourself biologically through modifications but that require thousands of hours of research. By your logic, we shouldn’t use anything in-organic and that is totally stupid and irrational again. Though I do agree that technology is progressing faster than the human mind can keep up with.. but hey.. we have to do anything to survive and thrive, nature isn’t so kind to everyone as seen through history.

Hand carved clocks like shown in the movie usually cost from $1000 to $10000 dollars each. As the owner guy was already in the high end clock business it was most likely sold at a premium. Think how much a Rolex cost and why. Edit: then take any excess income and invest and plus a few decades time and you get quite a bit of money.

Bicentenial Man movie is an Asimov novel adaptation. Nowadays can be considered very old(literally, past Millenium old) and of a time people were at least somewhat more pure in intentions and worldview. They dreamed of a better tommorow(ofc they were also living in a world and a society that while having drawbacks, allowed the futurists to dream a better tommorow - and why not, co-existance for man and machine, on a friendly based level). Ofcourse most of Asimov's work(with few exceptions) is like that, even in the most difficult situations, there is always a window and a glimpse of hope.

The Centennial man and Barnes saved untold millions of people with synthetic organs they designed and built. It doesn't matter, man or machine, both can coexist in peace. What makes a human, what if humans want to be humans, what is teh defining factor between humans and robots, this can even go into religion saying that if a sentient robot with feelings and seems to be mostly human believes in God, will they be saved. Its crazy to think about.

I consider this role with Robin Williams as one of his finest works. It may not be Academy Award winner, but it definitely showcased his many talents. I get choked up when I watch this movie role, as his dramatic flair combined with his comedic talent made him such a versatile actor. His talent was truly undeniable as he's made enough movies, where I couldn't imagine anyone else stepping in and doing the job that he did. Aladdin isn't the same without Robin as the genii, talented as Will Smith is, its not the same.

What I find so intriguing is that I got the feeling that Andrew's road to humanity started the moment Richard Martin ordered his daughters to treat him like one. Movies and shows should really just stop putting concrete dates in them. Like a decade ago it was funny like how The Jetsons was set in the far-off year of 2002, when movies and shows do it now it's just depressing, potentially terrifying and unnerving, and possibly increasing becoming unrealistic or worse as becoming very realistic but not for good reasons.

If you become immortal, you cease being a human being. Constantly being reminded of one’s mortality with each passing year, seeing one’s ever changing anatomy, makes us more appreciative of what we do have. That is what gives us our humanity. That is why witnessing a natural death from old age can be both sad and uplifting. I know someone who died recently from old age. His last words to me were “I”m happy.” While many were sad and cried at his funeral, I was happy.

He is a robot tho, if we're speaking with a combination of religious and assuming the technological advances set in the movie perhaps there are cyborgs. Andrew had blood put into him and was also seen eating so maybe he can slowly be turned fully into a human slowly, the only problem being that his brain would be difficult to transfer from a robot brain to a organic brain. I would argue with your assessment that he asks Rupert to help create the synthetic organs to become more human. He makes them more than that in order for humans to become more like him. With organs that do not fail with age. So he no longer has to experience the ones he is emotionally close to "leaving" of old age. He now sees that his immortality is a curse more than a blessing. He tries to make humans as close to immortal as he can.
