Wow! I felt breathless just watching that :) Congratulations on covering so much of a very complex network - at least four rail operators (RENFE, FGC, TMB and TRAM), and four track gauges (Iberian, standard, 1200mm and metre), if I'm not mistaken. I'm a bit surprised none of the RENFE network is treated as "metro" on the map, but that would have taken even longer to do.

As mentioned briefly in the video, a fun fact about the Barcelona rail network is that it uses 4 different rail gauges (1000, 1435, 1668, and 1674). 1:20 Interestingly enough, Spanish has the letter ü as well, and its usage seems to be pretty similar to that of Catalan.

13:00 if you ever come back to Barcelona after this year, you will notice that there will be a new Glòries station which fixes that problem, as well as 3 new tram stops and a reconfiguration of T4,T5 and T6. T4 will go through the new branch while T5 and T6 will absorb the Ciutadella branch

Nice ! I absolutely love Barcelona and its fantastic transit system. The most dynamic and expanding systems in Europe are Barcelona, Madrid and Paris (where I live). And the Spaniards are real strong transit supporters and great builders of rail infrastructure. 👍 Barcelona's agglomeration is very well linked, up to deep into the suburbs. Barcelona and Paris being at the forefront of the current transition away from the car and towards public transportation and cycling. At 1:20 it means "the waters" in Catalan, and is pronounced (very) roughly like "lez aiwaez". The sign above ü is a dièresi in Catalan, diaeresis in English, and does roughly the same as in French (indicating a hiatus or that the letter with the diaeresis belongs to the another syllable) It resembles a lot to the French "les aiguës" meaning "the acutes" or the "high pitched" (feminine form). Except the sign is on the e instead of the u. In French it's called a tréma (Umlaut is German). "Aigues" without tréma in French would be pronounced like "egg", u being silent between a "g" or a "q" and a vowel. Like "question" is pronounced "kestion", because there's no tréma. But "aiguës" is pronounced "eggu" with the u sounding like ü in German or the simple u in French when not in a silent or combination position. Voilà, that's it for the pedantic language lesson. 🤣 That's nice to enjoy Barcelona's great transit with your dad!

19:50 I am from Barcelona and also asked myself the same question. After some research, I found out that the first plan was to enlarge L4, but they changed it that it probably because one of those two reasons (or both): First, they wanted a small line with lower frequency and shorter stations and trains, as it goes deep into the mountains and there's actually not a huge demand there, but a really specific demand of really isolated neighbourhoods that benefited a lot from this line. Second, they wanted a place to test the automated systems for L9 and L10. They already had tested them on L2 tunnels before it openned, but I suppose that testing in real situations could help them more. PD: incredible video, just loved it :)

Mont Jüic used to be an amusement park. One of its coasters is very weird and still operates (usually only one side) in Zaragoza (one seat bus ride from Zaragoza station), the other major coaster was moved to the infamous Six Flags New Orleans. Fun Fact: Zydecco Scream was the first attraction to arrive at the park site, but it was the last opening year attraction to open. A third, Ciclon (Zyclon), later reopened at a small park in Girona nearly 10 years after Mont Jüic closed the rides and a little over 2 years after Katrina

1:21 I'm guessing that 40 other people have already commented this but I will as well. Both Catalan in Spanish have have the letter ü, most non-speakers of the language are unaware of this as it only occurs in several words, examples are "Aigües" in Catalan; meaning "Water" or "Pingüino" in Spanish meaning "penguin". although I don't know much about Catalan I do know that the ü makes a similar sound to "w". the reason both of these letters exist in Spanish is because the letter "w" developed with Germanic languages like English and did not develop in Latin that Spanish descended from meaning that "ü" is used for words that descent from Latin while "w" is used in words derive from English even though both make the same sound in Spanish.

@@MilesinTransit Hi Miles, you definitely need to go once to Poland, they have very extensive tram and commuter rail systems. You would probably enjoy the Silesian tram network, which connects city of Katowice with kinda 10+ other smaller cities and towns in the metropolitan area, and despite having abandoned several tramlines during last 15+ years, the network is still impressive and extensive, and it feels somewhat "interuban'ish". And they also have a short "dinky shuttle" line 38 in Bytom, which still uses old 50's-era trams.

Definitely not as good as it could be, although I was generally impressed with how accessible the Barcelona Metro was given that it's an old European system - only 13 out of the 189 total stations aren't accessible. That being said, four of them are major transfers, but I think they're slated to be upgraded!
