Making ready to depart, knowing there is a storm outside, is a gutwrenching feeling as you dont know what to expect. I guess that is the description of fear, not knowing. I reconed conditions would be within limits. 3 Februry I set out in what turned out to be my most challenging North Sea crossing by far. Join this ride across these dangerous oceans from Shetland to Norway. In following seas, the waves only grew bigger and bigger as I came closer to Norway.

Wellll…some channels have bikinis and white sand snorkeling…others rely on dramasailing…the last off course are more respectable….in a way…..but as patrick mentioned,he would be at the bar,if you want to sail a ( little) storm on a 40 hrs crossing…its your own choice. But they all serve the same goal….clicks and patreondonations??

Excellent sense of the conditions. So often, when you film the sea, from the cockpit, it looks so much more mild when you watch it later, but here you can really tell how crazy the sea and wind are. Your content is as ever inspirational. Well done!

I don’t know if I just watched complete recklessness or supreme confidence in boat and equipment. Probably both. Erik, this is flying too close to the sun. Don’t get Icarus’ Syndrome. It only takes a small, but significant failure of any part of the boat, and this goes from being entertaining to tragic. Safety first… requires margin or buffer. Don’t be on the limit. Stay safe!

Hey man, thanks for this absolutely amazing video, was really fun seeing you manage the storm so well. I know these conditions from my own experience on the german Coast Guard but with a lot bigger boats so it must be 10 times as exciting on that little sail boat. One thing I can realy just advise ou to do when going outside especially in these conditions is to always wear your life vest even if it seems stupid sometimes. It´s just 2-3 clips to put it on and the chances of finding you if you get thrown overboard increase massivly. We´ve found way too many sail boats unmanned and sometimes their really experienced sailors washed up days later where a vest with ais could have maybe saved them. Everyone always thinks ah I dont need it just to go outside for this quick second but thats when accidents happen. Ok, rant over, good on ya for all the safety you´ve already been going through and safe sailing!
