I love this program and I rarely get to see it live. Best of luck David, hope to see you as a guest in future. I have seen so many white-winged doves. They are hilarious. They eat like pigs lining up at the trough. There are at least 2 trying to balance on the peaked roof of the feeding. One is always sliding off.

I missed this episode live at the end of April because I was actually out on a bird experience in the Smokies. I want to wish David best of luck in his new endeavors what ever they may be. He was an excellent host of the program, and Elizabeth did a fine job producing., I tuned in live to the May episode and wondered where David was. Exploring the replay I now have my answer.

I didn't see a bird! Yesterday a young friend drove me up Alamo Creek Canyon in San Luis Obispo County in California where I lived twice in my lifetime, many years apart. The bird I didn't see during that ride was a Yellow-Beaked Magpie. While I lived in the canyon, I interacted with these birds in the front yard of my tiny house in the middle of a cow pasture. They came each morning to be given treats, making quite a racket if I failed to come out soon enough, lining up on the fence or striding around impatiently. I was disappointed to miss seeing them, but conditions just were not right. I understand the Magpies in other parts of the world (not in California's valleys) have black beaks. Their range in California is, according to what I've read, is only 500 miles north to south and 100 miles east to west, and they are endangered. I found free photos but one could not be included in this note. Thanks for I Saw A Bird! Good bye David and Elizabeth. Welcome John!

I saw 5 wild turkeys standing in a field in a group this afternoon. Then a lone deer came along & seemingly didn't care for the turkeys & began trying to head-butt them & lashing at them with his front foot and generally chasing them. But the turkeys were not impressed. They just kind of side-stepped his charges. This went on for almost an hour. At any time the turkeys could have just flown away but didn't. At one point the deer was chasing them round & round a juniper tree. I've never seen anything like that before.

Greetings. I was hoping to get your thoughts on selecting a lens... We have several feeders around the house (some feeders are located around 10 feet away), but we also have feeders that attach to our windows; they all attract lots of birds, and this is a great opportunity to capture photos of them. I've been researching online, and I understand that a Canon 100-400 is great for walking around and finding birds that are a distance away. Since the birds are coming right up to our windows, I was thinking that a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro might work great for really close-up photos of the birds. Can I get your thoughts on whether this lens will work great for this condition. The lens will be used on a Canon 5dIII. Thank you in advance for your help. On a side note (but related), I am looking to get a used DSLR camera. I'm considering a used Canon 5dIII (since mine has been great), but figured I'd ask if there is another camera I should consider . It will be used for birding, night-sky, and wildlife photography. I'm open to other brands (i.e. Nikon). Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

The Canon 100-400 is an excellent lens and has a decent MFD. You can pair it with an extension tube to get even closer focus for the birds right outside your window. Highly recommend.
