They make little aluminum plugs with points on one side. They are called dowel locaters, they have actually been around for a number of years.

45 years of cabinet making and I’ve never seen a jig that is supposed to be precise made so crude, if you do not own a square to make correctly ( the basic to make something) I wouldn’t trust this or the guy who made it to ( in my father’s words ) make a dog house.

Buenos días, no necesitas herramienta ostentosa. Hay herramienta manual como la caladora de mano, bien podrías usar un taladro sencillo. La herramienta que utiliza es paran agilizar la idea que pretenden darte, lo único que hace falta para completar esas ideas aún teniendo poca herramienta es la pasión de hacerlo. Suerte

You can get a Dowling Jig with 90 Deg Angle Jig for about £10, I've had one for about 15 Years and use it a lot, it also has 4 x Drill bit sizes.

Just offset the indexing dowels a half-inch or so out of line, then angle the jig so they make contact. The bearing will automatically center itself, and jig will be much simpler.

Just a tiny push-pin center (costs as a junk) and you're good to go. Drill a hole, place the pin inside, put counterpiece over, gently press. Viola, you marked a countercenter! Why to create that strange thing? (and I wouldn't comment on all that carpenter errors causing it not to last long)

I guess if I lived in a country where I couldn't run down to Loews or Home Depot and buy a dowel locating jig then I would probably make something similar to this but.........

Interesting jig, but why do you need bearings where a simple tube would work just as well? This jig takes up a lot more room in the shop and has more limitations than a set of dowel & tenon centers... just sayin'...

@@frankwise7464 And make a wooden funnel to put the gravy on the biscuits. Don't forget to use all those extra sealed bearings. Don't forget to dull your drill bit first - very important. NEXT!

Did anyone noticed that this video is reversed left to right ? Drills turn counterclockwise numbers on the rulers are reversed as well as screws tread counterclockwise and even the letters on his T-shirt are reversed.

You can never get consistent (accurate distance apart) Dowel Holes with a piece made like that. A waste of time. Do not watch this video.

It allows you to line up Dowels when joining Wood, but tis one only has one Drill size and only end on fixing.🤨

I started watching and I'm thinking "somethings not right here, left hand thread to tighten the clamp?", "left hand drill bit?", etc. all the way up to the use of the ruler and noticed the numbers were backward. It was here that it I realized everything is reversed ! DOH !!! Was distracted the rest of the video.

Like the first comment, what a waste of time. Even forgot that anytime you buy that set of bearings you are supposed to take the seal out remove some of the white lithium grease in it and put in some wheel bearings loose those bearings will last six times longer with wheel bearing grease and they will with that nearly useless white lithium
