For many years now I’ve been sharing my point of view on international tennis for tennismajors.com. Now I’m happy to also share this analysis with you on my KZbin channel.
Today, I’m talking about why 2024 will likely see a continuation of Novak Djokovic's dominance, but also why Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will continue to push Djokovic as his two nearest challengers.
I believe that, contrary to the past year-and-a-half, Sinner will have the edge over Alcaraz for the first time in their careers.
Sinner had a superb end to the 2023 season, winning two 500-level tournaments, beating all three of the top-ranked players - including Djokovic twice in eleven days - and leading Italy to their first Davis Cup title in 47 years.
I think that this Davis Cup triumph with Italy could be the catalyst for a hugely successful season for Sinner.

Agreed. Sinner's playstyle needs maturity, something he might not have at the moment. But when he has it, he'd be unstoppable. Alcaraz & sinner remind me of nadal & djokovic. How one of them is an explosive hard hitter, and one of them is more method in taking care of his opponent.

Carlos was #1 because Joker was kept out of tournaments and not given credit for winning Wimbledon when they locked out the Russians.... that isn't knocking Carlos but the truth. Sinner has more upside than any because he started late and is improving .. heck he only recently changed his serve from platform to pin point... he's still learning and Carlos is fully formed.

But why Sinner wasn't number 1 if he is better? Or Zverev, or Medvedev or anybody else? Why people try to undermine Alcaraz accomplishments at an early age? If anything, Sinner is 2 years older and closer to his physical and mental peak than Alcaraz. Alcaraz is still a player in formation at 20.

@@blackkitty9054you cant look that way, somebody can start from 16, somebody from 19, somebody from 22, etc. But its clear on average you re mature somewhere from 20 ..that doesnt give any indication . Developement is different for everybody. There is no pattern or rule, how you peak what time. Federer was 22 as well starting make results. Novak was succes at 20,but with solving personal issues, got him in top into 24. Still doesnt mean, you can sudenly become great at 26. Its clear that you they ve been great from the start. Novak at 19 was very very capable of doing things wich he has done from 2011, the diference becomes when you are more consistent, and you solve sll blocks that you had. Soo the mental part becomes more clear. You know all your decisions. That express on the court as well. Its all put up together as a whole.

Sinner is really more ready than Alcaraz, mostly mentally, his problem is the consistency I mean Alcaraz can play at the same level for 6, 7 months Sinner oscillates very much, when he finds a balance then he'll be a real dangerous.

He will never have his serve due to his short height...... He may improve consistency of his serve by working on it more but it will only make it less of a weakness in his game.....serve will never be his weapon.... It is easy for big servers to get out of trouble by hitting a big serve at a crucial point..... All big servers do it..... Sinner worked on his serve and developed a big serve due to his long height and he is using it to get out of trouble more often...... Sinner has so many advantages over alcaraz...... Big serve,,, big forehand, big backhand, big returns..... Singer has improved his net game and drop shots too......alcaraz is only better in variety and defence,,, in every other aspect sinner beats him..... So sinner will win most of their matchups except on clay.... Even their clay matches will be close as sinner is a good clay player.....

no one big athletes have a big serve, anatomicaly his muscle masses don't allow perform acceleration of the joints. When years go up, Sinner increases stamina for 5 setters, Carlos go down or increases risk for injury. years 22-23 shows Alcaraz stronger first half of year, weaker -second part. As Italian I really hope Yannik will achieve some top result in 2024 like winning a grand slam. He's from north of Italy and this make him a little more focused on training. Kindly guy that has worked hard to achive his goal. He started play tennis a bit late that is a good example for teenagers willing to start play tennis even if they are not started when child (much more common in the top players list) and have great results anyway by focusing on hard work with an open mind to improve his technique.

Problem with prediction at this stage is the age of these players. Like Djokovic and Murray in 2009/2010. While Murray was winning big titles Djokovic was losing time and again. I can't predict accurately and neither can Patrick. But Alcaraz has shown the ATG level when he won Wimbledon and was decimating the field from March to May. He is also getting stronger being just 20 years old while Sinner is 22 and had 2 more years to develop. I think next year Alcaraz will have less of those physical issues than this year. He will end up ahead of Sinner

Difficult to predict who will be the best next year… even for someone like you sir. But let’s play 😊. I would say that Carlos is more talented, more complete and more constant. In addition I would never compare Novak to Janick because Novak at 22 had one GS, several semi final in GS and several M1000 titles. According to me Alcaraz will finish number 1 in 2024. (but not sure 😅)

Hate who? In 2024 Sinner seems to have improved (as from Aug 2023) meaning that he is the more consistent of the two in 2024. There is no hate but truth in that. Alcaraz still has a little better done in his career: 4-2 slams, 4-3 in Masters and 0-1 in mastersfinals. But Sinner has improved a lot. Alcaraz has a big challenge to become no. 1 again.

shame, i didnt see this 5 months ago. i wrote to a tennis partner in december that sinner will become nr. 1 in 2024. hell beat novak, im sure. i said it again specifically before the french open. strangely enough, almost no one talks about novak having to win the french to stay nr. 1. alcaraz is a strange character. its impressive he plays with fun, but hes nr. 1 not realiably good and nr. 2 lost a lot of looseness after the initial strong phase end of 2022. hes not the same anymore, maybe it was the media interest, maybe it was the injuries. to me he proves that the nadal playstyle, i.e. wall is very hard on the body in this generation. basically i noticed that all players struggle with what the current evolution of tennis asks of players. yannick is cool as a cucumber, doesnt mind beating novak and BOY, HE CAN and he will!

Sinner has still room for improvement as he started playing Tennis seriously at 14, Carlos started at 6 so the margin of improvement is minimal. Sinner only problem is his physical stamina, AKA the 5 Sets Tournament could be a challenge for him if he doesn' t improve. Carlos is a energy powerhouse which makes him more suited it to win Grand Slams...so far. Anyway those two are the next Federer/Nadal. Question is, who is gonna be the next Djoko?
