Ok here is the truth... this video was originally going to include three (THREE! smh Wendy) red carpet-inspired creations and partway through I had a brutal reality check on how much time I actually had to get this done. So here is the first item I finished and though it's on the simpler end of the spectrum the satin was terrifying and I'm really proud of myself 🥲One last thanks to Milanote for sponsoring this video! The tailoring looks so on-point, smooth, crisp and classic lines that is what always sells me on clothes. The shape of that dress would make my geometry professor beam with pride. Nice to "meet" Leticia and warm wishes to Julia on her new path. Oh and ALWAYS allow time to add the pockets. It is the best present to your future self that your current self could ever gift.

8:07 Wendy, you have taught me so much about sewing that you deserve all the credit for being an awesome instructor! The first big project I attempted with my own machine was your mini Kanken tutorial. I still go back to the old videos if I'm unsure about how to do something. So just to say I'm so grateful for your old content, and I still love seeing where your videos take you now!

wendy, i have been a viewer for years and I just need to take a moment to say thank you for all the videos over the years - I went from just a viewer who was interested and curious about sewing to now being a sewing girlie with a bunch of projects under my belt in the past 3 years and it really is all thanks to you! your videos are so much more helpful than you'll ever know. I've loved to see you tackle such challenging projects over the years and that in every struggle or misstep, we learn together

First of all, your set up looks gorgeous! It makes your video even more professional! So good:) And secondly, I have literally zero sewing knowledge BUT your videos make me go: “delusions of DIYYY”. I know it is loads of work, super difficult, it takes so much skills, but you make it looks like everyone can do this! I love that the feeling I get is “included”. In community I have no experience with, but admire so much. I know you think you don't have the authority to teach people - IT IS enough, you are super good at this! Thank you so much! Sending lots of love and hugs

Creative people tend to go a little nutso when they can't be creative. Our dedication is keeping us sane! This kind of sewing is a practice like law or medicine. There will always be more skills to learn! KZbin has such AMAZINGLY TALENTED sewing machinists to learn from! Pattern drafters! Free spirits like yourself! I have bathroom curtain fabric waiting to be be preshrunk and made right now. Found the most PERFECT fabric. Just need to find the right rod before I start cutting.

Been watching since the beginning and I am so so happy to have witnessed you grow Wendy. From one stranger to another, you are absolute proof that sticking to your passions will make you a consummate expert. PS: In all those years, I've always been scared of touching a sewing machine so mostly I was watching because your videos soothe me. But I got a machine this year as a birthday gift. I named her Florence, The Machine and I am rewatching all your older videos to teach myself what to do. Baby steps for me. 😂

Finally had the sense to make a pocket pattern and keep it handy instead of starting from scratch every time. It's a wee bit larger than yours, same shape. I always put a pocket in the muslin and flannel half-slips I make (simple a-line, bias cut. They work well with fuller-cut skirts without adding any bulk thru waist and hips. And very comfy! Flannel nightgowns get pockets, too. I also have a perfected kangaroo pouch pocket pattern for aprons and caftan-type use.

Keeping it real is the key to most things 💖 For a tutorial, 'this is how I do it or how I did it' is perfectly fine and often very useful. Describing the former as 'this is The Professional Standard' or ' The Rigth Way' is where things can go wrong. I am new to your videos, but I think you are doing fine in that regard.

That little green slip dress my grandmother made for me back in 19 oh64 for a hair show we were going to and then over the top of it. It had a see-through organza design on the top of it. It was so pretty and I wore it with silver shoes because she had put silver trim around it. It was just great. Wish I still had that not that I could wear right now butthey’re gone, but that green slip dress reminded me of it

I learned my lesson with satin, silk, and chiffon when I made a "very simple wedding dress", the bride kept losing weight and altering satin, 4 times is yucky. 🤮. I really like your explanation of not only construction, but that Met gala breakdown that you presented was everything! At first glance I was bored with what I saw. But you boke it down to the essence of what was good! I liked the categories!

A pocket is always for utility first and is important for that reason, who cares about how it looks when your hands are stuffed in! but also I don't wear anything without pockets so I've stopped allowing things without pockets to enter my wardrobe and I realize that's not most people lol. But! if I had pattern building skills I would prolly build everything around the pocket. Overall, your videos are so inspiring to make things like this seem possible to accomplish even if the road seems difficult, thank you!

People who go to fashion school don't necessarily have the sewing skills that you do. Sewing is all about experience and if you don't put in the hours you don't get the skills. I have taken my clothes to professional tailors who weren't as clean/careful with finishing details as you are. Please don't underestimate your skills. You're not an imposter. The end result was stunning. This is such a clever design. Prada really is a genius.
