That red record frame needs to be on ALL cameras! The blinking red dot on screen like most cameras have is the worst when I’m doing run and gun shooting. Always have to wait a bit to make sure it’s actually stopped or started recording. I’ve missed key moments or accidentally double pressed and had to reshoot entire shots because of that and having to move FAST on some shoots. Solid red dot is better but that red frame makes it super obvious and I wouldn’t even have to pause to think about it.

I once had a second shooter mistake the red camera icon in the top left (which simply signifies movie mode) for a recording icon. He assumed he was rolling for an entire 10-minute interview. He was not. This is why the new recording frame makes me so happy.

Excellent film Griffin! Question, is there a way to dial-up the sharpness in the camera if I want sharper images and also any overheating issues shooting C4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:0? I'm using a Panasonic DVX200 and would think the GH5 II would be a good b-cam - possible to color match those cameras? In the Panny DVX200 there is a menu setting called detail, which boosts sharpness. Oh and what lens did you use? The kit lens? Thanks so much! :)

How well do you think that the GH5ii compares to say the S5 which is at a very similar price point as well as cheaper with its kit lens? I am thinking between these two cameras for run and gun filmmaking and am not sure which to choose. I am a low budget filmmaker. Thanks!

Hello and Thank you for this tutorial on the GH5 M2. I have a question that not even Panasonic has been able to answer. I bought a GH5 M2 and when I turn it off it doesn't show the Lumix Logo on the screen before it goes away. Is this normal for this model, or is my camera defective? I will appreciate your reply. Hi, thank you for sharing your very interesting video, You have a lot of experience and I would like to ask you a question x please: I only do documentaries in 4K, and as soon as I can I will go to Africa to film people with dark skin and strong sun, but not in the city , but in their villages. Would you be kind enough to tell me you would configure the GH5 MII? I mean which color profile, 25p 4: 2: 2 or 50p 4: 2: 0, etc. etc. However I use a good variable ND filter. I do the video editing myself. 1000 thanks for your advice.

Thanks for the info. I'm a little confused about the new 'Live Streaming' funcionality on the GH5 MkII that you mentioned, as I can already live stream on my GH5 (in conjunction with LUMIX Tether and OBS softwares). So what am I missing?
@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
It's that the camera, using WiFi, can connect wirelessly to livestreaming services without the need for a wired connection to a computer. I'm not much of a livestreamer, so I nearly left that detail out of this video-but I know it's one of the key marketing bullet points of the camera.

Hey Griffin! Just watched the short film, great work as always. Unrelated to the GH5M2, I was struck by how clean the audio was. Could you share how you got such clean audio in a space that looked to be very echoey?
@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
It was indeed a noisy space. I recorded the interviews on the Audio Technica AT4053b mic, which is better at rejecting background noise than some of the shotgun mics I've historically used. But I still had to deal with closing doors, and an alarm system beep that happened every time doors closed. Some of the door sounds remained in the film, as they were too hard to remove, but I believe I managed to eliminate all the beeps using Adobe Audition. Using Spectral Frequency Display, you can isolate specific sounds-even when they overlap with dialogue-and delete them or "heal" them.

5” Ninja V is almost too cumbersome for the GH5, I could not imagine the 7” Shogun being less so. If Panasonic had a 4”, or a more apropo 4.3” LCD screen, I almost would not need to use the Ninja V, but then too, The GH series would also need to give me Pro Res to SSD recording too… …

I'm trying to figure out how to "touch focus" on my GH5M2 while shooting video... I could do it on my old G85, and I think it was possible on the GH5 too... but is it possible on the GH5M2? Do you think it's a forgotten feature in the actual firmware? 😅 Thanks
@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it still works on the GH5M2! I have Continuous AF off, but am in "1-area" focus mode-meaning I need to push the shutter halfway to focus. When I touch the LCD, it moves my 1-Area to where I touch and instantly focuses. Is that what you're talking about? I wonder which focus mode you're in.

Hey Griffin. Do you ever get "gear insecure" when you are making documentaries/doing client work when using a DSLR when you have access to the EVA1 or other cinema cameras?
@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
I don't. My clients don't know or care about the difference. I feel like 10 years ago, mirrorless (DSLM) cameras were new, and sometimes people would say they were surprised to see them used for video work. But by now, it's normal. And I just learn over and over that audiences only care about the finished product, and have NO IDEA what camera, what mic, what lighting was used during production.

I know you also have the GH5S, so if you were making a narrative film for a festival to be shown to an audience on a cinema screen and if you could only work with one camera, would you choose the GH5S or the GH5ii? @GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
I'm so tempted by it, but I know I would continue to choose my 25mm f/1.4 and 42.5mm f/1.2 over this new f/1.7. But if I didn't have those two, I could see the draw of a single, zoom lens. You could certainly shoot an entire film with it.

@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
@@Began2011 I have no insider info on pricing, but I'd agree $2000 would be a reasonable price point for that new lens. The 10-25mm f/1.7 is $1800. If you look at another complementary Lumix lens set-the 12-35mm ($800) and 35-100mm ($900)-the longer lens is between 10-12.5% more expensive, depending on the seller. If that % ratio holds for the new 25-50mm, it would fall between $1980-2025.

Shot at 60fps, which is a frame rate that Griffin loves. Check his older S1 films for the same type of look.
@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it's the framerate. I like to shoot 60fps and slow it down to 30 or 24. But when I shoot films for Panasonic, they really like to present 4K60p footage in 4K60p-as it looks so immersive on trade show television sets. Our brains have been trained to view 24 as "cinematic" and anything higher as "video." But I also find I have different reactions when I watch 60fps content on a computer vs. a TV vs. a projector-as our brains kinda have different expectations for each.

Man I feel like I’ve fallen so far behind on what camera gear is ‘in’ and ‘out’. It’s all so intimidating to me now.
@GriffinHammond
@GriffinHammond 3 жыл бұрын
It's easy to feel that way. I feel that way when so much new gear is released, I can't possibly be knowledgeable on all of it. But at the end of the day, audiences care about stories, and have no idea what camera was used. Even if your 10-year-old camera feels dated, 10-year-old lenses, mics and lights all perform just as well. You can still produce beautiful work with the gear you already have.

Panasonic added several new AF tracking modes on the GH5M2, but I haven't tested them on any real-world productions yet.

This camera has a terrible flaw: that the only DCI format it records in DCI 4K -> 4096 × 2160 (17:9) , and not in the usual format that movie projectors work in, which is DCI 2K ( 2048 x 1080), which forces you to use memory cards. extremely expensive, and don't even think if it is recorded in Prores or similar, so if you plan to shoot for cinematography, it is better that you buy a "professional" cinematography camera, which does record in DCI 2K format and whose price is in the "normal" one. around 6000 €
