I'm one of the archers you inspired to start shooting. I fell in love with the sport the first time I've tried it. Indoor is very specific format. I hate it, however it accelerated my "career" by showing me, I can compete with archers who are on the national team. That gave me motivation for training more and eventually winning national field championship and team title outdoors. Thank you for your work!

I’m new to archery. Fell in love with it after my granddaughter got a recurve for her 13th birthday in November. I’ve watched a number of your videos since buying my first recurve (arrived in December). I really appreciate your telling the story of your experience in competition. What you were feeling, adjustments you made, recounting your shots, how you were thinking about it in the moment is especially helpful and inspiring. That 3-spot is a tough target for your first time shooting an indoor round, well done for sticking it out. Also, your reflections on competition and getting out there to find out how good your are is spot on. Every competition I've attended, most of them as just a spectator; has been a fantastic experience.

One of my favourite video's of yours. Great insight into your mental weakness, and improvement. After years of playing English pool, I have a very strong mental game. Unfortunately, my archery isn't up to my mental game. But that's fine. My mental strength means I enjoy the bad days, where it's a battle to shoot even half decent. I dig deep and make myself proud of what I've done. It isn't as enjoyable as a good day obviously, but i take it for what it is.

this is an excellent review of how to reflect and view a competition. I am going through a form change as well and finally had a good 300 round yesterday. I think having the right mindset going in to a competition is key and you certainly reflect here about that positive self awareness and how it evolves within the meet. I cancelled coming to Sydney due to the challenge of a follow on vacation. Perhaps in the future> :-) Congratulations

The target size is not what matters, it's the mental game that decides the outcome. I frequently train on cola bottle caps at 18-20 meters and do quite well. However put an indoor target in the same place and I'm all over the place ...

Found this video really informative, thank you. As the virus rules have now been relaxed I'm just about to do my first competition, it's a Barebow outdoor national 48@60 and 24@50 did my first practice yesterday came away with 288. I was a bit disappointed but after seeing score others were putting in (those who have been shooting much longer than my 9 months) I'm really hopeful of being able to put in a decent score under competition conditions.

Very interesting video NUSensei! I shoot 18m on a full size 40cm target at home and I still occasionally just miss the 1 ring 😂 To be fair to myself I am shooting a barebow recurve with cheap ILF limbs on a 21” riser that started life as a compound, off the shelf, and the arrows are not quite perfectly tuned (I’ve got new arrows which I’ve almost got right bareshaft and I just need to glue in components and fletch them). I’m very interested in shooting some competition in the future, though not sure how much barebow competition there is here in South Australia. I guess I’ll find out more when I join a club soon. Anyway, your video got me thinking a lot about the benefits of competition and what factors come into play. Thanks for sharing!

I struggle with light indoors mostly. I shoot traditional 18 meters with 60 target and i find the "gym" lights very distracting and they feel flickering even if they're not. Well done! I enjoy your channel very much!

Your eyes are probably a bit outdated. You should think about buying a set of new ones with a higher resfresh rate. "A refresh rate of 60 Hz on most eyes will produce a visible "flickering" effect. Most people find that refresh rates of 70-90 Hz and above enable flicker-free viewing. Use of refresh rates above 120 Hz is uncommon, as they provide little noticeable flicker reduction and limit available resolution." Hope that helped.

I'm watching the finals now and only 1/10 of the folks retrieving arrows know how to do it, unless awkwardly tugging and looking embarrassed while facing away from the target is an Australian thing?

The foam is a bit denser than what the agents might be used to - they're shooting on the outside rather than softer inside. Unless you have the arrows lubed and have an arrow-puller, it's surprisingly tough to get out.
