Burr, snow! But fun to play in with the 4x4! It will be about 80 here today in SoCal. Had to turn on our electric blanket in bed last night, it got down to 50! Life is terrible here! No snow yet! I used velcro instead of screws and kept the plate behind it. So far so good after almost 3 years. Not a fan of the front plate in the window but I get it. Haven't been bothered yet, but my excuse is I put the cover on at a car show and forgot to take it off. Last night I was thinking of wrapping my console on the C5, so it's funny to see your idea too lol.

Yea, I forgot to make it clear I would only put the plate up there when driving, that way I can stow it away the rest of the time. But, the car show excuse is a good back up option as well! ;)

Yea, I was a little skeptical of yellow when I first had the opportunity to get it, but, soon after I really fell in love with the color. Not many vehicles can pull off yellow, but definitely not a problem for Corvettes

I have a C-4 out back parked for couple years. I got stop by police 6 times in 17 days but no tickets! Two officer more than once every one asking me how much I had to drink. ??? What with old man driving a Corvette assumed to be DUI? All times stop was leaving Kroger 1 1/2 miles from home. Solve the problem with C-3 with 496ci big block, 12 pt cage, hooker SS side pipe headers, dual stage 400 NOS, Mickey Thompson DOT drag slicks! Now the cops smile and wave but no traffic stops. I am disabled and have handicap tag above the wheelie bars! Love your yellow Corvette. I'm looking around for a good guy in neighborhood to give the C-4 to, it needs egr , and tires. I always enjoy seeing someone taking pride and joy in their car. Thanks for sharing!

@tri-u watersports Thanksgiving day sign title over to hardworking young man. Well almost, he's got to put tires and install EGR valve. When he does that and get ready to insure it it's his! I'm in Georgia and was surprised at the number of people who wasn't interested even when crank up and drive! At zero dollars one kid was "He would take it if I payed for new set of tires!" Young kids are different than when I grew up in 60's and 70's. I got faith in this young man for he works everyday and has saved enough to buy a nice C-4. So guessing they'll be good buddies. I'm getting along great with C-3 BBC 496, just added a dual stage 3 Stinger NOS. It's 40 yrs old and I 66 yrs old so we needed at least 300 hp of laughing gas! Wish I met you couple weeks ago!

Hi, just a hint about the front plate. For states that require a front plate, any street rod accessory dealer has an electrical plate holder that when under power moves the plate from under the front bumper to infront of the bumper. When the car is shut off the plate retracts back under the front bumper. I believe Kerbeck's Corvette in NJ was selling this as an option to new corvette owners when they purchased a new Vette.

Yea, I was so busy all summer into September with work and unexpected home stuff that I did not get a chance to really enjoy her much after corvette adventures. Been taking her out a lot more and even though some snow has fallen here, looks like its gonna get nicer here for a week or so, might get a chance to do a few more things before putting her down for the winter. ;)

Not putting a legally required plate on the front of your car, is nothing more then looking for an asshole with a badge. Especially around southern Wisconsin right now. Take apart a retractable headlight motor, ( and mounting bracket) and mount it on the inside of your front bumber. Yes, it involves a lot more work, but my husband recently patented the idea, and it should be available by next spring. See you at SEMA!!

In Texas if your car is 25+ years old you can register it as an antique and no front plates are required, no window sticker, and $54 inspection/registration every 5 years. Only draw back is they don't want you to daily drive it.

When adjusting the sail panel you should have the hood closed to ensure the gaps line up. Theres a lot of adjustment available with the screw holes. Plate filler looks great and its a nice color match!

I've got a 86 with a 396 stroker with a d1 procharger and a 4l80 trans it's something like I cannot explain. I cut a hole where that license plate is and get more air to the intercooler. I have a body kit and it's getting the real deal treatment this winter. Red and black, I got the same rear as yours decided to change it up a little. I have all analog gauges with green leds behind them. I posted a couple of videos a long time ago of what it used to look like. Was yellow and black with checkers on the hood pretty incredible. Best 1/4 11.3 in Fallon above 6000 feet elevation. I've beat many of a car and motorcycle, fast fast cars and really really fast bikes. The car is sick, your car is sick bro. Good job man.

cobrapub here,I own a 94 corvette is your a 95,I had one just like yours.The one I have now is red and use to overheat,finally after replaceing the radiator the mechanic just bypassed the relays and it has never been so cool even in the dead of summer! My biggest problem is the omnispark,that is my only problem with this car now! So far since I aquired her I have put about 3,000 miles on her and she loves to eat ROADS,not bad for a c4-94!

I live in New York State and a front licence plate is required, but I never put it on, owned since 93' .Like you said the licence plate looks awful on the front of a vette! The plate in the windshield doesn't look Good either, the licence plate looks alot better hanging on the garage wall. 👍

In NY, it has to be on the front. While we can sometimes get away with it being in the windshield area, depending upon the cop, but is still illegal. I have never put the plate on the front of my Corvette, and luckily have never had a problem myself. But I think this is only because it is a Corvette, because I have had issues, tickets, etc on other cars, but not the Corvette. Not to mention, we have these huge registration & inspection stickers on the left corner of the windshield. Why couldn't those be on the plate like so many other places? Notice what he said about the salters ? That Corvette season is over as soon as salt is dropped! This is so true & should be followed, & for any car possible. Those cars that need to be driven, should thoroughly be washed underneath by spring time!

Not yet, but I am sure it will at some point. When I had it inspected, the tech said it looked like it had already been replaced at some point, so, hopefully it won't be any issue anytime soon.

I have. You don't want one. I've done three replacements in 4 years. It's not just that they're a PITA to replace. The "good" ones are no longer made. Every replacement is a crapshoot. So, best case scenario is 4 hours labor (by the book) for what may last an hour. Lather, rinse, repeat. Or you can spend thousands installing a Torqhead optispark eliminator. That's how bad they are. Someone engineered a (very expensive) way to get rid of the damn thing altogether. Chevy tried to fix it (with ventilation in '95-'96) then gave up and went LS. I just don't drive farther than AAA will tow.

@@drjohnsonhungwell5115 The first one I bought was the highly recommended (and expensive) Petris. Chris Petris has enjoyed a good reputation among C4 owners for several years. The bearing failed after 18 months. Six months out of warranty. I put an AIP unit in my wife's '95. It was still working a year later when I sold it. So when the $400 Petris failed, I put an AIP in my '96. Knock wood, that one is still working after a year. After I installed the last AIP, I read of others who had theirs fail anywhere from a day to a week out. I bought mine off Amazon for $99. The ones that failed came from Sac City for $160. Sac City offers a 2 year warranty instead of 6 months.

RARenfield I just bought a Petris they offer a 5 year warranty now for a little extra so I got it haven't installed it yet . I may not need it just yet though I have a 94 Corvette had 67,400 miles on it 70 and some change now had original plugs wires and Opti . It ran good when I bought it then it developed an intermittent misfire which progressively got worse and fouled plugs . I changed them ICM and coil plus new coil wire still ran bad then changed wires after I bought Opti now it's running good for now , so I guess I have an Opti sitting around until the Opti goes may run good for a while maybe not it had all of the symptoms of an impending Opti failure .

Scorpio, I'm local to the Milwaukee area - stay in touch if you want network on C4 stuff like the Carbon fiber wrap. I did my C4 and it turned out pretty good. Even did it for the same reasons you did. Mine came with that faux stick CF dash kit. Your dash actually looks pretty good without and I can share some of the things I did with mine.

Goo Gone did wonders to clean it up, and overall I am happy with the result. Wish that nice soft texture didn't get ruined, but, much better than with that old stuff on there. Definitely when spring rolls in, I would like to meet up with some locals with C4s, and compare and contrast. I recently was in contact with a guy in Kenosha as well, could be fun to do!

It's easy enough to use, just putzy . I did the interior pieces of my C4 and I'm happy with the results, it just looks out of place because it looks more current then the retro feel of the C4 - Peace.

Absolutely enjoyed this video. As to installing the front fascia plate where the license plate is supposed to go, I didn't realize the retainer screws were attached from the front as opposed to the back. I'm sure it's a lot easier, but I guess you better make sure you have a skinny screw driver. As to those of us that are required to have a front plate, I think it's absurd. So many states never required a front plate, while others just eliminated the requirement. By not requiring a front plate, it would be just another area for the states to save money, which is ultimately our money. I did discuss this subject once with a cop who said they need the front plate for identity purposes. Really? If that's the case, why are the front plates not required to be lit so they can be seen at night like the rear plate? Then again, the after-market vendors are not complaining in that they offer a host of mounting options to install a front plate which can easily be removed and/or electrically fold up out of sight. I have such manual install/remove mount for my C6 and thereby eliminates screwing or double-sided taping the factory mount to the front bumper. It's a very clean install and removes in 15 seconds. I live in NJ and pretty much always have the front plate on except when I'm showing the Vette due to the fact that the minute I go illegal a cop seems to pop up out of my gas tank. lol We too have had snow here in Northern NJ and like you, until the roads get salted and/or they spray the brine mix down, I take the Vette out. Which reminds me, gotta go and take the Vette out. It LOVES the cooler weather. lol Save the Wave.

Having owned two C4 Corvettes i can honestly say who gives a toss about the front plate... you are not compliant putting it on the dash, and likely to get seriously injured in a crash. Put it where it belongs and stop trying to reinvent the wheel. There is no top screws for the cover. The coating on the dash is called Dulso, it is a GM product and easy enough to get.

I have had multiple C5 Corvettes and could care less about laws telling me I need a front plate. They are an eyesore and have no business being on the front of any car let alone a sports car. Unfortunately the C6 and later gens did not have as clean of a solution of where to put or not put the front plate. A real shame too because people end up with cars with ugly holes drilled into the front bumper which looks as bad as having a front plate IMO.

Word of caution. As a corvette fanatic I love the plate delete look up front. That "corvette" indent just screams class. With that said, I think it raises the question of necessity for the while front plate thing legally. As a police officer, when someone knowingly does this for aesthetics and violates the law...dont be surprised if you get stopped or cited. You made that choice. With that said, why not push your elected officials to ditch the front plate entirely? You cant tell me it wont save money in the long run. Exercise your rights and make it happen...or just break the law and pitch a fit when you get caught. Finally, make sure you look up the exact verbiage on putting the plate in the window as some states demand 'affixed to front/rear of vehicle' which means you can still be stopped and still be cited. Dont argue it's a crappy cop either when you knowingly violate. Pay a $100 citation to have it your way. Or vote someone in that changes it. Be safe and love the car! Wear your belt!

I used a small profile stainless steel license plate screw. I was about 75% the thickness and thread size of a typical one. Worked perfectly.

Maybe it's because I'm out of state in NJ, but my experience when in NYS is that "they" aka Law Enforcement, do not cars, especially Corvettes without the front plate, and especially when they also know the state you live in requires them. You'd think they'd have more important things to attend to, but it's an easy way for them to generate money.

I’m supposed to run a front plate but I feel it destroys the look of the front of the vehicle so I don’t use them on my trucks and Jeeps and especially not my vette, I’ve never been pulled over or even warned about it!

I think more than anything if you have the plate holder but no plate, that will get their attention. I almost never notice a car without a front plate unless it has an empty plate holder, so, I am keeping my fingers crossed that logic is sound! ;)

My C4 has the OEM filler but in California you get stopped all the time if you don’t have a front license, so over the years I got like 8 or 9 tickets for not having a front license until when I got pulled over and the cop said you got the same ticket quite a few times before why you just don’t put the front license? And I was like because I don’t like how it looks like and he started laughing and said oh really? Like that? Well I’m going to give you a fix ticket so you gonna have to put the front license on even if you don’t like it. Then i did it, I went to the inspection, paid the ticket and left, removed the license again and I got eventually stopped and I got a $1200 ticket for removing the license after having a fix ticket plus I got another fix ticket, so at the end I just resigned myself and left the license in place.

Just a hint from a 30 year c-4 owner.... do not put anything except maybe a baby diaper on your clear roof. If you get in the habit of putting things up there... you will regret it one day when you look at it and see all the scratches. Just a bit of good usable advice.

Unfortunately, after a few failed negotiations, the early winter here in Wisconsin looks to have put my plans on hold to upgrade anytime soon. But, when spring rolls around, all bets are off. If I can financially swing it, I would not rule out keeping the C4 as well, but, we will have to see what the options are at that time.

13Scorpio really looking forward to it once spring rolls around. I’d say get a 2001-2004 C5, they made more power than the 1997-2000. Also get a stick, this is your weekend car and it adds to the fun factor.

Haha yea same problem here in NY state we have to have a front plate as well! I’m a big c4 guy and have owned a couple now and have always kept my filler in. Fuck em!

Yea, you start to notice all of your quirks when you record yourself and edit it. I have been working hard to limit my "actually"s when talking, and had cut out half a dozen or so from this video, yet a few still snuck in. Guess that is one of my default thinking out loud words. ;)

Better yet there is a license plate flipper/hidder for states like calif. That mandate a front plate. Ud get a ticket here for no front plate and it $50 or more fine too.

Totally agree with what you said on the front plate cover it makes the car looks so much better but upon putting the license plate in the front windshield it's not that it's not in the front of the car now you're obstructing the driver's View the police officer wanted to be a dick he could argue that point

Put it to the right of the window and it's no different then a moving permit legally but fasten it to the window so it dosn't slide and you'll avoid tickets and nasty conversations 👌

They did come stock but many were lost by previous owners over the years who had to put front plates on and then misplaced/lost the filler. I was missing mine for my red c4 but was able to find a nice matching used one on ebay.

If that is truly a C4 you changed the rear clip.C4s did not have a third brake light, also had round tail lights not square. to do away with the front license plate here in Washington i simply registerd my C4 as a collector vehicle. no yearly tab fees!

The C4 was refreshed in 90 or 91, the bumpers were rounded and the black trim that went around the car was painted body color. The 3rd brake light was added to the rear clip (except on the ZR1) due to regulations and the taillights were squared off a bit and no longer circular like earlier in the generation.

That wouldn't work in this state. Colorado law says you must have a front plate. They did not say where in the front. I would do the same and put the front plate inside the car where it can be clearly seen. One way to comply, and have your way also. BullyBilly

.. what i would do is get a electronic fold away license plate kit ... or like I did .. get Antique plates. You only need one and thats on the rear. 100 % legal and inspection only every 5 years
