6:15 Mirabel (somewhat) explains in "The Family Madrigal" that her dad Agustin and her uncle Felix do NOT have powers. Abuela doesn't have powers, either, apparently and only those born into the family are given a Gift. Sadly, you can't marry into a Gift or get one after the age of 5, which is the age when all Gifted Madrigals were given theirs at their Gift Ceremony.

I love that Mirabel's whole arc was pretty much just showing that her 'gift' was to be the glue for the family, and take over that almost-matriarchal role from Abuela, right down to being the metaphorical key that re-opened the casita.

A very interesting detail in the movie is that, when the movie starts and Abuela Alma is telling little Mirabel the origin of the miracle, the image is very tame, Abuela is not crying, she just show sadness in a very child friendly way. But when in the end of the movie we see the actual scene happening its much more violent much more cruel and painful, and we see abuela crying and screaming and falling to her knees in a way you can actually feel her pain.

The butterflies are actually very symbolic throughout the film. The pattern on the "magic" candle is a butterfly. Mirabel's blouse has butterfly patterns stitched across it. This is one of my favorite movies. I am of Dominican and Puerto Rican decent, both sides of grandparents came to the US from other countries and the generational trauma cycle is real. The pressure to be perfect, to be the strong one and so many roles all so that our elders can see that they didn’t travel for a better life for no reason. As the oldest daughter of the oldest daughter, that was definitely me and it was definitely passed down from the pressure my mother grew up under. 19:08 Given that young Abuela looks remarkably similar to Isabela and Abuelo looks a lot like Isabela's suitor Mariano, I don't think this is a coincidence. Abuela's favorite grandchild is Isabela and she wants her to marry Mariano so badly because Abuela wants Isabela to have the perfect marriage and perfect life that Abuela never got to have, because she had to leave her home and her husband was brutally killed in front of her. He sacrificed himself for her and their triplets, as well as the other village people who fled. Because of his sacrifice, Abuela Alma and the Madrigals have the Encanto and their Gifts.

There's a theory that Mirabel actually did a gift. If you look at their clothes, their gifts are stitched into their clothes. For instance Isabella had flowers on her dress. If you look at Mirabel's dress, there is the image of a butterfly stitched in it, and the symbol for the miracle is a butterfly. She became the physical embodiment of the miracle

Angelina I'm super grateful that after "84 Years" you finally got to react to _Encanto_ It was awesome to watch this on Disney+ on Christmas Eve with my family and although I prefer _Coco_ over this film since I'm Mexican, I still enjoyed the film for the main protagonist Mirabel voiced by Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa in Brooklyn 99), it's unique cast of characters with Dolores and Camilo being the standout and the songs, with my favorites being "We Don't Talk about Bruno" and "Dos Orugitas" which the latter did make me cry. I also did love Mirabel's relationship with each family member especially her relationship with her parents, her sisters, her cousin Antonio, her Abuela, and her Tío Bruno voiced by John Leguizamo. So Angelina from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for reacting to Encanto and I hope you get to react to more Animated movies on your channel.🦋🕯🇨🇴

My pet theory (which is not canon, not borne out by the plot of the film, but I just think is fun) is that Mirabel's gift is the gift of "Musical Theatre." She is the only one who sings by herself, and nobody else sings unless they are in her presence. Okay- so they sing folk songs and play guitars and stuff, but they don't do musical numbers with choreography and scene shifts and stuff: musical theatre magic. It's always- and only- when Mirabel is around. Yet, like classic musical theatre, nobody *acts* like breaking into song and dance is weird in any way; it's simply how a musical universe works. (For Dr. Who fans, it's like The Silence- as soon as they're gone, you forget they were ever there.) So because nobody is aware of how Mirabel's gift is affecting them, they assume that she has no gift at all. Naturally, that's not what the writers intended; her gift-less-ness has different meaning, linking her to her Abuela, and the Casita, etc. But as a musical theatre nerd myself, I still like my theory.

if you know the tv show zoey's extraordinary playlist, this would mean it's kind of like zoey's power in that (though it's not exactly musical theatre because it's more of a jukebox musical). recently saw someone suggest this idea in a tumblr post, aha, and it's def fun to think about. The entire first music have so cool details. We drink strong coffee since we are kids, seems like other latinos do the same. And that little guy is soo cute, I loved him. The part that I think really sad is that they gained a really cool and big house for the family and then they lost it, is so hard to have a house that is yours and of your family, and the mother have a really hard time fighting to protect and car for her children alone. And the people all togheter constructing a new house(like in the beginnng at the community helping each other), just like we face adversities in Latin America, helping each other mainly if you are poor, I cried in this last part.

Minute 22:06, when Abuela Alma made that face (which clearly reflected anger 😡 and dissapointment 😤), I though she was going to say: Shut up, crying girl, and go away! Never come back!

The plot to this movie is a lot like Piers Anthonys first XANTH novel, 1977s "A Spell For Chameleon".

If you'll notice, the house always does what Maribel says and helps her out. It doesn't seem to do that with anybody else.

I love Encanto too!!!!. Lin-Manuel Miranda did a freaking awesome job with the music. I also love Mirabel and Bruno’s characters.

I love this movie, but it's been a couple of months. Last time I watched it was with my grandniece and she made me get up and dance & sing to every song. Was very exhausted by the end.

I typically love her reactions (literally watching every single one on her channel as I type this) but it seems like on this one, she’s just giving non-stop commentary without actually watching or listening to the story (or even the songs). IMHO, kinda annoying especially when she said that she hadn’t seen the movie before.

Honestly, I don't understand why people don't like Encanto. It's my favorite Disney movie and always will be. I'm not much of a Disney fan in general (i mostly hate the old movies because of the themes; underage bimbo princess being a damsel in distress and falling in love with big dumb hunk who's twice her age). Encanto was a break away from those cheesy classics, and I love how they showed different skin colors and hair colors, but also different body types as well. It makes people feel better about themselves and to see people in movies who look like them. The story was also really easy to follow and not too dark (they were more aware of the kids in the audience) and stuck to the same family aspect! I'm so glad they didn't give Mirabel a love interest! We need more Disney movies like this

I love this movie for 2 reasons , first it take place in my birth country Colombia (after one of a civil war) and the second because the story / songs / characters were incredible.By the way during the song "We don't talk about Bruno" we can see Bruno go left to right in the stair when it's the sister who heard everything who sing. And here a cover version A Capella by VoicePlay : We Don't Talk About Bruno | VoicePlay Feat. Ashley Diane - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6eym55ofcSab80

The only time Abuela truly accepted Mirabel was when she got her "powers" so Abuela never really learned anything here. If I were Mirabel, as the new matriarch of Encanto, I would have banished her.

Terrific film, but really wish this movie had ended with the powers not coming back, felt like they were building up to making the family feel normal and not pressured on a pedestal, but Disney's no longer into long lasting stakes. Probably would've resurrected Mufasa somehow if Lion King was made this decade
