Done a decent job, looks fine and if you are happy, that’s all that matters. I fell in love with my Studio Design Scotty 17 years ago and its still a wand . Mine had a few blemishes, so have now cleaned the black coating away and it’s still magic. Great vid thanks!

Powder coating will give you much better durability. Still a nice refresh, and does what you wanted, well done.

Yeah I had this putter in high school in 05-08. Still have it and still in just as good shape. I have noticed even with restorations through scotty custom shop they never get the finishes like when they came out. The rainbow look is the best and gets so many compliments when I use it. Also have a mint 2.5.

You sanded the milled face 🙈 I'd personally use it and after the paint chips off to a level that causes distraction, I'd send it to the putter room for an oil can finish and the face re-milling👍

Nice job. Wonder if a clear coat should have been put over the paint to protect it?

A good job. My only concern is that it looked like your refurbisher's grinding was a bit harsh. I would not have expected sparks coming off. But it may have been necessary depending on how deep the damage was.
@emilymcintosh3645 Жыл бұрын
Very light sand blasting first then powder coating would last for many years and make for a slightly better finish but in all fairness I think it looks great and its a SCOTTY CAMERON so well done.

The paint on the mill you can keep the mill through just braso and some patience and the finish on scotty's is a black oxide finish which should have been redone to keep that gorgious finish

If the paint doesn't hold up I'd suggest you use a product called "cerakote" it's an extremely durable spray on ceramic finish used in the firearms industry here in the USA. It's a spray on finish that's fairly easy to use and comes in close to 100 different colors and several different sheens, (flat, semi gloss, high gloss, etc.)

My only concern would be whether or not the face of the putter was affected when you ground those “milling lines” off of the face. You’ll find out when you take it to the grass whether or not it rolls “true.”

To be honest it looks damn fine to me. The paint will likely chip through time as you say unless its been some sort of special chop resistant type, Take note to give it lots of TLC when on the course; swipe it clean before putting it back in the cover. Try not to have it being hit by other clubs when in the bag etc. Cheers

You should never sand or try to refinish the face by hand. It may look flat to the naked eye but is not. Therefore your putts will not roll true consistently. This putter will need a face remill to fix it.
@jrh17043 жыл бұрын
The paint and or clear has to have a hardener in it. 99% of spray cans don't. A 2k clear* (brand name) 2 part in a can has automotive hardener mixed in and when cured correctly would not chip. Other wise this will not hold up. The testers enamel paint used to fill the lettering should have no problem as it hold up really well and is slightly recessed.

Although everyone seems to worship them, and they have collector value, S.C. putters are simply just putters. In fact, most of them are inferior because for the average golfer, the Sweet Spot is the size of a pencil eraser. The actual truth about putters is a mallet head will feel more solid than a blade type putter. The single most important thing on a putter is the grip. The "flat spot" on a traditional grip must be exactly in the right place to the micromillimeter. If the flat spot is rotated just a tiny bit, you will always miss either left or right depending. The best putters of ALL TIME didn't use a S.C. People who buy the hype on S.C. putters seem to also buy the hype on cars like the BMW or Mercedes-Benz. Advertising does work. Arnold Palmer, one of the all time best putters, used a Wilson 8802 and Bobby Jones used a putter that nobody would dream of using these days. So, enjoy your flat stick. It's just a hunk of metal that makes you feel good and when you feel good about your putter, that's a good thing.

I hate seeing people doing this, you see them on ebay with the cerakote finish sacrilege. Ive got an original no.5, no pitting on shaft, head still in good condition and always re-grip with original cameron grips, why paint a putter!!! It should be blued, just got an original Spalding t.p mills that somebody had restored and improved by bluing it instead of the original finish that Spalding used, painting is just a big no no
@PacForeTravel4 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, that finish isn’t going to last long. The paint he used is probably for cars, even if it had a clear on it, it would still get compromised. I’m an up and coming youtuber but I mainly do golf club customizations! If you have Instagram go check out some of my work @proamcustoms send it to me and I will refinish it with cerakote which is an extremely durable finish that is actually used on firearms! Let me know if you are interested! Thanks

Cringe. That was a very sloppy refinish and paint job by your friend. That original black pearl finish is one that is longer offered by Scotty Cameron or hardly any 3rd party refinishers. The value of that putter went down $100-$150 from that work but as long as you like it, that's cool.
