Maybe something that you can have inside the aquarium like Fluval PRISM 2.0 ? I've got 2 in my 75 gallon that comes on as my 3.0 starts ramping down and goes for the whole night. Usually have been using the color changing fade setting but there's a few settings that mimic daylight /. moonlight. Just got my 3rd for around $30 . Back in 2005 i remember Marina had some and they were garbage but it was then I started backlighting my tanks and found I probably enjoy sitting in the dark watching the fish that way as much as being under expensive plant lights , shop lights or my old grow light from the 90's Metal Halide 💚🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

Typically, complete darkness could incite panic. Some parents will eat their young, but with mouth brooders, I doubt that was the case. Other tankmates were more than likely the culprits. Lighting...moonlight (in the wild) does provide enough light, up to certain depths. If they bred before, they'll breed again. Hopefully you'll be able to harvest some of the fry! I would provide more plants for cover, in that corner (Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus) is a very nice, fast growing plant that can be trimmed very easily and it is loose leaf growth will not block light. After 3 or so days, I would begin feeding some micro food to them. Just my .02 ;-) It's all a learning experience and I look forward to see what will happen next!

If the geophagus get moved adding some rarer species off apistogramma might be a good match for the altums. Also in an aquarium that long instead off having the typical pair or harem there is actually place for a colony with multiple males so that you will have lots off interesting behaviors at display.

About light: I have LED ligts on my tanks, that i can program to start with less light in morning, then more during day, and less in evening, At night i can program to have "moonlight", a blue light.

Hi again King J. If you think the mesh is a eyesore, consider a mansinita/ spiderwood type of screen, as long as the other fish cant reach the fry but the parents can see the threat, mission accomplished. Often with inexperience fish parents if they feels that they is about to fail they will eat the fry so that the energy can go to a new batch rather than strengthen a competitor. Sorry if my writing is wrong in a Swede😂. All love to you Joey you are a tru King for the hobby❤.

I’m currently keeping Geophagus Brasiliensis. I have a group of 6 with 2 of them pairing off. They’ve layer eggs 4 times so far. 1st time the eggs hatched and I removed the fry as wrigglers because they started to eat some. The other 3 times they’ve just eaten the eggs. Nothing I can do about it, nor do I have the space to raise up all these fry. I’m kinda glad they keep eating them tbf 😅

It’s impossible to save all fry they die that’s what they do, in a tank they generally have a lot better of a chance of survival than out in nature, you could keep them all alone in a small tank where they can’t miss their food supply and they will still die off.

Not sure if it's available in Canada but Fluval do great lighting with a moonlight cycle. Really works well with Geophagus breeding. Also it looks great.

How I see it: It could have been any of the fish and for any reason, temperature, mood, stress, a tank dispute, who knows.....? Bottom line is, sometimes fish do this in the wild (I was raised along the Nile river and would see it happen), I think most of y'all just need someone to attack and something to complain about.

So pretty soon u have three different tanks of babies of different sizes and they all need a tank of freshly hatched brine schrimp. Of different stages .3 more tanks! Why does Joey reiterate over and over again that he has kept and bred thousands of DISCUS! Discus are notoriously the hardest fish JUST TO KEEP ALIVE, not to mention finding mates and breeding...
