Hi Kaity, thanks for the visit and the great video highlighting our aquarium and our important conservation work with the Mexican Goodeid livebearers. We get no government support and rely entirely on public donations, so if anyone would like to help in any small way, details can be found on our website and especially on the aquarium pages. Thanks in advance. If anyone has any questions regarding anything seen in the video feel free to email us at any time. Shaun, Head Aquarist, Tropiquaria Zoo.

Thanks for the tour, Kaity. 🤗 I can remember a tour there with FishShopMatt and MD, but you gave us a bigger and better tour. This place, and others like this, is so important in preserving the fish that’s struggling with loss of habitats around the world, and hopefully there’ll be more and more habitats brought back to life. Next challenge will be stopping the fauna pollution around the world. It’s a delicate problem. Obviously we all want to feed the locals, but if it’s on behalf of local animals, then there’s a big problem.

I love the way both you and matt do so much more than just show fish, you are genuinely interested in their plight in the wild and the behaviour of them. It's always a pleasure watching your content. (I am happy that you are enjoying your "world tour" but i imagine laila is going to shun you and throw a wobbler when get back home) 😂

Hi kaity It always amazes me how you always seem to find new and interesting subjects to put in your videos each week.and how you are doing that for so long now. it's a good thing that places like that exist, i think they are really needed.as a european i'm a bit offended by matts words😡 The european perch (also common in the uk) can easily hold his own compared to the beauty of any other more exotic fish!!!!!(Yes,even african cichlids,sorry)😂😂 Not that great to keep in a common tank ,to big and a ferocious predator but still... Enjoy the fight and wish joey good luck!🤞

Really good video! Didn't know this place even existed, should try and visit next time I'm down that way! Really good to see the conservation work they're doing to help with those species with their breeding and restocking programmes! Are there any aquariums in Australia which do similar conservation work? Another freshwater conservation project in the UK I'd recommend looking at is the Avon roach project which was set up on the Hampshire Avon to boost the roach (Rutillus rutillus) population in that bit of river which was really struggling due to factors such as predation. It was such a successful project, that the roach population has been brought back to a point where it's now properly self sustaining and the project is no longer needed to assist! Can't wait to see where you go next on your travels 😃
@Kaityscichlids5 ай бұрын
Oh that is awesome!! Thank you so much for the recommendation 😄 In Australia I know Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast do a lot of conservation work, but I'm not sure if they do specifically for aquatic life. It would be interesting to know what places do!
@the88tench35 ай бұрын
@@Kaityscichlids Ah cool! I'll definitely have to check those zoo's out, I've heard of Australia zoo but not Currumbin zoo so will have to have a look for that! Most if not all zoo's in the UK tend to do a lot of conservation work and breeding programmes as part of their work for all sorts of species. A couple of other things you might also find of interest are the white claw crayfish reintroductions that Bristol zoo were doing. They had tanks full of them at Sparsholt college when I was studying there so that was cool to see, and know of some success they've had on chalkstream rivers in the South of England. The other one I think you'd really like is the Environment Agency's National coarse fish rearing unit which is their fish farm that farms all sorts of native fish species from grayling and dace all the way to tench, bream and crucian carp! They will catch fish by electrofishing from rivers and lakes to then use for breeding with the eggs and then fry staying in their hatchery before going into various tanks and ponds to grow out and then eventually be delivered to sites across the UK. They will send stock to places where there have been things like fish kills in rivers due to pollution incidents to restock fish populations there, and also donate fish for free to places like fisheries as part of angling improvement grants to get more people into fishing and spending more time out in the countryside! This is all entirely funded by rod licence sales as well! I did a month's work placement there for my 2nd year of uni, and it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of working with fish I've ever had! The operation they're running is brilliant and the staff are all incredibly knowledgeable and friendly! If you could ever get to do a tour of there one day you'd genuinely love it 😃😃
