A very good question, but as a professional player the game shouldn't really be viewed like that. Why not pick up at $3k profit? Or $2k? Or $1k? Hindsight is a wonderful thing when you lose some back from your peak point. Instead of viewing the game like that ("I'm up X, that's a good day, I'll quit and lock it up"), top pros instead think about how good the game is, how good they feel, and what their Expected Value is at the table. The game was really good, I felt physically/mentally good, and above all, the table was still very profitable to play on, so I decided to stay. Hope that doesn't sound patronising, and like I say it's a totally valid question to ask!
