At least the British and Irish don’t treat Homosexuality like they do in West Africa, you have the gall to accuse the west of ignorance, but the subject can be addressed with humour, not the African approach of brutality and death for daring to be different sexually. I am a 76 year old heterosexual man, but like many of my contemporaries I have more tolerance and understanding of humanity than either modern day Islamic, fundamental Christian, Middle Eastern or African societies.
@gerardmackay890911 ай бұрын
Where exactly is the ‘gall’ on display? Here we have two very charming young men who have grown up in, and belong to our society who are reflecting, via comedy, how attitudes have changed as they have grown up and they are very pleased that it has. @Longlostpuss11 ай бұрын
Some of it was defamatory though and there were serious real life issues going on like racism and homophobia. That kind of comedy is only good if the issues are resolved and everyone know it's all good once the show is over. The problem is when the "jokes" spill over into the real world and actually affect the people that are the butt of the jokes. Whether people choose to admit it or not, the media has done and always will shape the wider populous' perceptions about minority groups using their reach and there is a need to be careful with it. I will agree that comedy is a bit too sterile now at the same time. I put it in the same debate as that of free speech - let the comedians express themselves and then if they say anything that is taken out of turn, let's have a proper serious adult discussion about it instead of immediately cancelling said person, otherwise the issues won't actually be resolved.
@richardmoore987411 ай бұрын
@@Longlostpuss Totally agree. Just like the civil rights movement, women's rights etc Same as in comedy, it's all in context really. The actual homophobic, racist, sexist attitudes were widespread through into the 60’s and 70’s. The comedy TV programming back then did a magnificent job of breaking down those prejudices, but might be hard to watch for those who didn’t live through it. Plenty of countries around the world still have those horrendous judgements about other people’s sexuality, including imprisonment and even execution of gay men. The work of education goes on, but at least this character was starting to realise his attitudes were out of date.

To be clear though some things do get cancelled for silly reasons but they're fairly rare

Watching you two young guys being cool and non-judgemental is wonderful. Attitudes towards gay people and HIV and Aids have changed for the better, thank God. I lost a few friends to Aids back in the '80s and '90s. It was a terrible, frightening time. Gay people were treated with contempt and there was little or no sympathy if you contracted HIV. "Serves you right for being a poof!" Being HIV+ was a death sentence until the mid-'90s. The available treatments were highly toxic and many people couldn't cope with the side effects. There were no instant tests either, or even same-day results. In 1993 I wanted to be tested to put my mind at rest and it took 3 weeks for the result to come back. I was going out of my mind with worry by day 3. I have a couple of friends still alive and healthy in spite of being diagnosed HIV+ in 1997. Take care. Liked and subscribed.

The guy on the left (is it Eddy) is making this scene even funnier then when I first saw it back in the day 🤣🤣💓💓

The joke is on the dad . All the characters in his sketches are good people doing their best to fit in . His comedy is very deep .

I like the scene at the pub where they go into the toilet together and Harry Enfield is left at the bar with someone, counting the seconds and talking about all the innocent stuff they might be doing in the toilet together, like washing their hands 😂

How many genders do you think there are? What are your thoughts on drag queen story time and children being given puberty blockers and hormone treatment? What do you think about 15 year old girls receiving double mastectomies?

Sooooo funny. They don't make comedies any more because we are not allowed to laugh. Try *Little Britain*. 😆🇬🇧

Best years of my life, and Harry Enfield was just brilliant.

I would love to see you do a video reaction to an old 70s comedy series called love thy neighbour which would now be classed as racism.

Hopefully as the younger generations come through ignorance and intolerance will be a thing of the past. Bottom line is we are all humans and everyone deserves respect irrelevant of gender, race or beliefs.

Jeez that's painful to watch....and I'm not talking about Harry.

The thing with this type of humour is it's ment to be cringworthy. It's designed to make you feel uncomfortable. Our generation just isn't so concerned with being offended at words. We had far more important things to be concerned about than recreational offence at comedians. That said Harry Enfield has always pushed the boundaries of acceptance in his work. Thank jebus.
