My favourites are 1 and 5! One because I think it’s loose and sketchy, 5 because it captures your likeness. I have willow charcoal but haven’t used it yet so I might try this 😊

Great work! I think using the stump at the end helped you get a better variety of edges and you were sculpting form better by day 4. its a good bit of improvement over just 5 days tbh!

I wish you had carried on for longer. It was really interesting to watch. I might actually start doing this and do it for a month. Although I doubt it will work since I am very ill and in a lot of pain at all times and often have days were my muscles don't work. I'll try it anyways though. Maybe modified or less strict. Maybe I'll try doing it every day until I have 30 pictures in total(?) 🤔

I do the same thing whenever I'm working on a piece or showing something that's a WIP. I show them some of my really good work to let them know, I can still make really great stuff, haha.

I like this idea of practicing drawing your own face each day. Well done for Being brave. It's not easy filming yourself and drawing too. I think you definitely have improved. I like how they have a different look each time, like the middle one looks very serious. Then they next looked a bit worried. I think your likeness shines through mostly on the last two. But they are all great 👍

Thank you! No I don’t find it easy at all, actually posting it is very scary😅 Yes you’re right about the expressions. Weird bc I was feeling sensitive when I drew the third and in a really good mood on the 4th… always had a resting worried face no matter what mood I’m in though!

You certainly improved! but one point I'd make is that I find if I repeatedly sketch the same person, after a while you get familiar with the face features and it gets easier/faster to lay down the overall structure...so the ideal practice could be with other models, but I I know it is easier said than done! :)

Ah yes I was going to mention that ! I definitely found that by the last one I wasn’t looking in the mirror as much as I kind of knew where everything would be. I’ll have to convince some people to sit for me!

I'm terrible at timed drawings, because I always want to keep "adjusting" them. I often cheat with "timed pose" videos and just screenshot a frame to draw from at my leisure. That's where I'm coming from when I say: I like all five of your drawings equally. For being timed self-portraits from a mirror, they're all really good. It's interesting seeing how you went about each one a little differently. Your non-timed dual portrait at the end gave us a look at where you were heading with the first couple pics. Whereas on day one you had left yourself the most to do to "feel" finished, it looks like by day five you were using your time more efficiently and reaching the most definitive stopping points by the end. An interesting exercise to watch.

SO difficult to leave!! Yes definitely a process of trying to find the right technique to fit the time, I started day one how I would start a much longer pose and quickly realised the mistake😅

Hi Izzy - This is such a great exercise to do. Perhaps not every day, but definitely a couple of times a month - especially as you can see that your way of beginning the portraits and your way of "seeing" yourself - changed a bit every time. I do believe that the likeness was closest on day 1. Do keep making these quick-portraits - you learn so much. I agree that you would definitely do them differently (maybe) if you don't film them (or show them to anyone). Great portraits all of them, in fact. Thanks for a perfect video.

@@izzywebberart I just found that you had caught something right about your head-shape and expression. Actually funny that all of the drawings were different. That tells you a lot about how difficult it actually is to be an artist. You definitely are that - big time! By the way, Izzy, is the "Green window painting" for sale? I would like to buy it if it is!
