This is such an awesome idea! You really captured something different about each country. 🙌🏻 It is so cool that other people joined in!

Congratulations Josie. A brilliant concept and I have Really enjoyed following your progress as you “painted the world”. So many wonderful sketches and, as you pointed out, each one got better and better. As an octogenarian, it’s too late for me to see these places but even if you cannot visit many of them in your lifetime you will always have the ‘memories’ in your sketchbooks. Makes a fellow ‘Brit’ proud. But, what now?
@JosieViolet3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Allan! would love to visit at least some of these places one day, but the sketchbooks will have to do for now. I have some ideas of what to do next but nothing is set in stone, I'm going to have a little break and reflect on what I'd like to do!

@@JosieViolet it is! It's surrounded by a moat filled with crocodiles. Then, beyond that, at the base of the rock, there's the ruins of an old Buddhist monastery that's now inhabited by silver langur monkeys. There are pools with purple lotus flowers and blue kingfisher birds. You can climb the rock, called Lion Rock, which has giant carved lion paws at the staircase entrance. On top is more of the monastery ruins, and you can see into the elephant-filled jungle for 50 miles in any direction.

Wow, what an amazing accomplishment! And a great idea! I am attracted to also do it, but I think I may approach it differently. I saved a numbered list of countries in alphabetical order, then I'll use an online random number generator to pick for me a number, then cross-reference to my list to decide for me what my next country is. I just did this and ended up with United Arab Emerates as my first country. That sounds interesting! I like the idea of leaving some element to chance. I also like not having to commit to such a grand endeavor. I don't mind if I don't get in every country or end up doing one country multiple times. I can quit whenever or keep going indefinitely as something I can always turn to when I run out of other ideas to sketch on any particular day.

Congratulations, you did it! A question: what about the shadow you applied at 4:49, did you make a wash before adding details or at the end? It's very effective ;)
@JosieViolet3 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 I added that at the end when everything was dry - it was a bit scary after doing all the rest but I knew I had to just go for it!

Thank you! It's Canyon de Chelly in Arizona - I've been really getting into Edgar Payne at the moment so I knew I had to pay homage to him for the US :)

And I do like the sketchbooks but I think my main problem now is I'm just a bit bored of the format!! I think I will take a break from them and come back to them at some point haha.

@@JosieViolet that makes total sense. I feel like mixing up mediums or subjects or painting big when I’ve been painting small or something like that helps me a lot. I’m excited to see what you do next! Edgar Payne is great. I have his book on landscape painting but his paintings are also awesome.
