I like the petrol vs EV cost comparison at the end Björn. Here in New Zealand it's very similar where petrol is far more expensive than EVs. However, this is mostly due to roughly 70% of the petrol price consisting of road taxes (to maintain and build roads), whereas EVs pay no road tax currently. They will probably introduce road charges for EVs in 2024, which will largely take away the cost advantage of an EV. How is the tax on petrol in Norway, and how will road maintenance costs be charged once the petrol user doesn't pay/exist anymore?
@Atamanxxxvii Жыл бұрын
They're already introducing road tax for EVs here in the UK, but even if they charge double the highest band it wouldn't offset fuel duty, and they can't justify charging people that much when they do next to nothing to maintain the roads anyway. It's likely the current high electricity prices in Europe will just never return to normal in a bid to claw back revenue.

It seems that Norway is making a lot less money on charging that e.g. over here. DC fast charging over here is 69 eurocents per kWh. That is without subscription, with low tier subscription (+- 5 euro per month) it drops to 60 eurocents/kWh and with the highest tier (+-14 euro per month) it drops further to 56 eurocent/kWh. Back of napkin math with your stats, ignoring the AC charge (which is more expensive here than your fast charge in any of the aforementioned tiers) brings me at between 122 and 150 euro for the trip. The AC part would add another 25 to 30 euro, bringing the total at 147 to 180 euro. Even (slow)charging at home will set us back 0.18 to 0.27 euro/kWh, given that no tarriff changes "invented"... Fossil fuel with your stats (for the whole trip) would be either 104 or 167 euro using official prices, pump prices can about 8% lower...

As you probably noticed, I only charged briefly at Circle K once. I checked the log and it was only 11 kWh. Not too significant at all. You can ask youself: Why would you charge at Circle K at 5.5 NOK/kWh where you can get plenty of Ionity instead at 1.65 NOK/kWh?

Considering cost the fossils also usually cost about half as much to buy. From what i have calculated 5-10 year running cost including the purchase price is actually the same wheather you go for fossil or EV. I don't mean to argue that fossils are better or as good and do agree that EV's with their better efficiency are a much nicer option but when you do actually compare the cost per km then it's really the same on both camps. We don't have any government funding for buying an EV so it really doesn't matter as far as money is concerned. You end up paying the same either way. It's just a matter of a very much more expensive car with less fuel cost or a significantly cheaper car with more expensive fuel but the bottom line will still be the same. I also understand this might be different in Norway but my point is that for the end user considering just the cost per km it isn't that black and white.
@guenthermichaels53033 жыл бұрын
Yes, good points. You forgot to add the cost of food, drink and snacks..Every time they stop to charge, they eat. Also we may have an increase in obesity 😃 Also my Mercedes diesel has a range of over 1100 km....no sleeping in car..

@lxfguits3 жыл бұрын
@@bjornnyland Exactly! That's what you have in Norway. My point wasn't to argue about the EQC vs GLC price but rather that it's not as simple everywhere in the world. The price difference between EV vs fossil is even bigger on the more affordable scale when comparing VAG and Stellantis cars. For me when I wan't to go and buy an EV tomorrow I will easily pay at least 10k EUR extra for any EV vs fossil.

I have already pointed out many times that EQC doesn't have much space. What's not clear about it? The rest of the car is quite nice though. I can feel that you don't like EQC. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a nice car despite being based on fossil plattform. Lots of people love classic Ioniq, Kona, e-Niro and iX3. And all these cars are also based on fossil cars.
@DeeSock3 жыл бұрын
In fairness, in Mercedes Maybach and other superluxury cars you can option an even huger "shaft" between the rear seats which are the most luxurious part of the vehicle. The shaft has advantages such as climate control is faster with less space to control. More amenities stored in shaft fall easily to hand. Cabling and other sensitive equipment are protected well in the shaft from external influences. And shaft creates structure which helps safety too. The shaft subframe also surrounds and protects the drive components located in the front section as well as directing the drive motor away from front occupants seats in a more severe crash. Even years after it's introduction EQC still has safest Euroncap tested combined child and adult occupant safety rating of ANY electric car.
