Ya, 38 here, I'm at the point I don't really want to acquire many more games. Now I am just trying to grab some physical copies of 3ds/Switch games that will be harder to come by down the line for a reasonable price (most are bad as it is now). Other than that, just the odd new game here and there that I really want (Zelda, FF16, etc.), franchises I love or want to play. Plus so many games hit the services (PS+, Gamepass, Humble Bundle) or end up being freebies on stuff like EGS/Prime Gaming/etc. that me buying them ends up being a waste of money by the time I get to them in my backlog. I sold off a bunch of stuff back in the early 2010's, regretted it, and ended up repurchasing a lot, often at higher prices and/or worse condition than my originals. So will wait before I sell anything. Luckily most games on PS or Xbox stay pretty cheap, so can always purchase down the road if I want to play it and its not on service.

I always relate more to collectors who keep things they've actually played or had some experience with. Whenever I run into folks at retro stores, I end up staying longer just to hear their stories of getting retro games for Christmas, last minute gifts from family who found the money to spare, to moments on roadtrips playing on their handheld consoles. You'll always find that buying the things you really care about always end up worth the money more than just having a collection for the sake of it. Great video man.

Tbh I've been thinking the same. My collection is nowhere near the size of rgts but it is worth about 3k. I was wanting to collect but then I realize that I barely play a couple hours a week and I game more on my switch than anything else. And then even if I do build it over the years. Would I even sell it or would I have anyone to pass it on to carry the tradition that actually cares??

If there's one thing I've learned with having a big game collection, or rather a hefty shelf size, is often times it becomes overwhelming in a sense. There were points in time I was buying games in genres I had no interest in, or jumping into buying whole series just based on one game I liked from said series. Since then I like to think I've mellowed out a little, I've been pruning the collection bit by bit here and there, and keeping my super essentials that I love to replay or actually had fun with. If you're someone who has to have every game or a complete library, I get it and whole heartedly respect the hustle, but it's not for me. I always tell people who are just getting into the classic/retro collector scene if you're gonna do this I'd pick one, maybe two systems that interest immensely and start collecting there, or just picking out titles that you know you'll have fun playing that fully gauge your interest. Don't buy a hot ticket title just cause of rarity or think it's an investment. Buy games that you know you'll love to play and even replay over and over. My comment is long AF so I'll leave a tl:Dr. I respect the folks out there with the massive Vidya libraries and more power to you, but as I've gotten older and priorities have shifted, I've realized the scene is definitely a young man's venture. All collections are good, it's what it means to the collector that really matters.

man, one of the biggest games in the world to me is panzer dragoon saga. my brother and i had put a preorder on it, but it was back when there were only supposed to be something like 5,000 copies coming to the entire US, and the preorder wasn't guaranteed. i've never been so excited as when my brother walked into our game room with a box from the mail, expecting some other game he had ordered, and out came PDS. i have a ton of nostalgia for that game.

I grew up with very little games, rented a lot or played a lot at friends houses. Now that i can afford them ive lil by lil started to get consoles and getting the games that meant something to me or that i always wanted to play. Now im far from a "gamer" i def havent beaten many games if any at all (dnt judge me ) but i do enjoy playing, collecting, and displaying them. So my sons both have oleds, xbox s, and ps5"s just cuz i know what it is to not have a console or an out dated one. They started on ds, then switch lite, now they have the new and online. I try to get down but i get side tracked (adult stuff ) but biggest highlight i have is beating the punisher game on the arcade 1 up with my younger son (4 ) at the time. that was pretty sweet. Keep up the great work, you inspire me to wanna have a nice collection of throw backs.

I'm close to 40, i've been re-collecting hard for 8 years, had a lot of systems and games, and i lost a lot of stuff when i was younger. But i feel you, a friend of mine was in the same situation, and i have stuff in boxes, shelves, magazines, etc. and i need space, so i'm downsizing. I like to play the old games, but honestly i do it via emulation or the remasters if the game has one. Still, the memories of playing the games on the original hardware is unique. And sometimes i think about that. But i can't live in the past, and i need to move on, and part of it, is letting a huge part of my collection go. But i will tell you this: seeing my collection, displayed, made me smile, every time, even when i was sad for whatever reason. I've been a gamer my whole life, so thats not going away, maybe i'll keep the most memorable games. Glad you are happy with this decision, RGT!

He kept so infinitesimally little it doesn't amount to a collection anymore. Hoarding as a shelf collector is completely pointless, I agree, but I find it very odd that he doesn't have an emotional attachment to more titles than what he kept. How can you only care about so few games yet have such a large collection in the first place? I understand younger kids who don't bother getting into expensive collecting at this point, who just emulate and pirate everything, but I find it strange to drop it all like this when you've already amassed this much over a couple of decades, and you still are a gamer with a gaming YT channel as a career.

Cool video dude! I see why you kept what you kept. If I did that with my collection, just keep stuff that has true meaning to me, I'd probably have about 2-3 games left. 😢

For those of us who are older. There is truly no way to describe what it was like to play the SNES and Sega Genesis for years and then play Mario 64. I just remembered my 8 year old eyes being glued to the screen and being blown away by what I was seeing. I was in awe. It was truly riveting and that experience has never happened for me again. Graphics got better and pretty much everything else about games as time went on, but there’s nothing like the jump from 2D to 3D. Nintendo nailed it. Nintendo brought us into the future. Eventually Sony took the ball and ran away with it tho, especially during the PS2 era.

I've been going on a bit of a gaming purge. Many of the games I sold were from older systems like the PS2, Gamecube, GBA, Wii and 360, so I could get games off of the Nintendo Switch, some of which are ports, remasters or remakes of titles from previous generations, like Super Mario 3D All-Stars.(I already sold Mario 64, Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy since I no longer need them on the N64, Gamecube and Wii)

23:30 “Do they have Duracell? No. Do they have Energizer? No. What do they have? Eveready!” I laughed my butt off when I heard that because I understand the pain! Stupid cat!! 🤣🤣🤣 I love the whole video, by the way! It’s great to hear your stories of the games you kept in your collection.

I started slowly getting rid of my collection because of emulation. The only consoles I kept where ps3, ps4, and xbox original cause emulation is there but most games I care to play on those respective systems some games don't work properly and until they do I will sell those as well.
