The Sega Saturn was a console i never got the chance to play growing up & in my teens was all about the Playstation but managed to buy a Saturn about 12 years ago & bought a ton of games before the prices started to go crazy as I just wanted to experience the games, as the 32bit era is my favourite generation of gaming & I honestly wasn't disappointed, many of the games like Die Hard arcade & Nights into dreams, Virtua Fighter 2 are excellent, I also loved Sega Rally, used to play it in the arcade & the saturn version is just epic. I agree the Saturn is very overlooked & it shouldn't be as it is a great console that has some excellent games. Great list & great video.

@waltsoph32 жыл бұрын
YES! Definitely Dragon Force! 😃 I actually owned this game when it first came out. I love it! It was one of my favorites. You definitely got to try and beat all the character stories for this game RGT 85. There is so much content in each story. Oh and here's a little friendly game tip to help you with getting through the game faster: If an army attacks your castle or if you manage to take it over, but some of the enemy generals escape when the scene goes back to the world map immediately PAUSE THE GAME before the enemy generals can run off. You can then refill any castle troops if possible or transfer your troops to a different army . Then keep at least 1 of your generals in the castle and deploy how many armies you want to chase after the retreating generals by clicking in the same direction fort or whatever the nearest landmark is the troops are retreating too next. Unpause the game and you should have caught up to them. Also if they happen to then retreat from that battle they will then head right back to the castle they retreated from after the battle. PAUSE YOUR GAME AGAIN and have your troops that chased them enter back inside the castle since your about to battle them there. Keep repeating this until the enemy generals are wiped out or captured. This alone will save you some hours and make sure to award the generals that participated in the battles to avoid any defections. ( each can only get 1 medal per session. So if you use the same general multiple times in one battle the game won't let you earn extra medals for just one general. It has to be different generals that win a battle. ) Hope this helps you out. Also a shame about Dragon Force 2. I actually have played it. Its a shame too because you do so much more in this game's content and the graphics truly blew me away. Also you have more variety of troops and general attacks ( 5 now instead of 3 ) to choose from in the sequel. Even if you can't read the games story on the battles you can easily figure out what is good and what is bad to use as troops for a battle since they have circles, triangles, squares. and X's to let you know what is best. Still its a shame we didn't get it. I hope one day a company releases both games here in the US to play once again because sadly your right Dragon Force today is freeking expensive. 😢 As for Virtual Fighter 2. Absolutely! I got a chance to see a demo of the game when I first got my Sega Saturn along with a few samples of some other Sega Sample games. The game was night and day when it came out on the Sega Saturn from Virtual Fighter 1 remix. Plus the controls were more fluid once you got use to the gameplay. Such an amazing fighter game for its time. Best part you could play the music from those CDs on a CD player. It was just awesome to do that with Sega Saturn games back then. :D Last of a little surprising for this list, but understandable. A game truly under rated at its time because I use to see sooooo many cheap copies of this game for sale probably due to its cover and that was Guardian Heroes. Definitely a must RPG/Fighter game to have on the Sega Saturn! What I loved even more about it was if you beat the enemies in that game you could then PLAY them in Vs mode. Its a game best played with multiple friends. Thanks again for your list RGT 85. Keep up the awesome work. 👍

Supposedly, Kay-Bee was pissed at Sega for not giving them shipments of the early Saturns and they wouldn't carry any Sega stuff from that point on. I don't remember not seeing Sega stuff in Kay-Bee post 1995 though, so maybe that's not entirely accurate. But here is a quote from the sega retro wiki and this echos what was in the Console Wars book: "The firm could only supply select retailers, prioritising Babbages, Electronics Boutique, Software Etc. and Toys 'R' Us, while in the process, alienating the likes of Kay-Bee Toys (which incidentally refused to stock the Saturn from this point onwards)." I remember seeing Nights at Target though, but I didn't care back then since I got N64. I ended up getting my Saturn in 1998 at FuncoLand for CHEAP though and I loved it ever since then! Daytona CE messed with the gameplay a bit too much for my tastes. My favorite Saturn racer (by far) is Sega Rally. Another magical Model 2 port, second only to VF2. I was really into shooters at the time and really liked the two Taito arcade ports - the vertical shmup Galactic Attack (aka: Layer Section) and the horizontal Darius Gaiden, released by Acclaim of all people! Other folks already brought up Guardian Heroes. I had so much fun with that one! Panazer Dragoon Zwei was an amazing experience to me. Oh yeah, I think that my favorite 2D fighter was Darkstalkers. My only regret with the Saturn is that I never got into the imports. The import library on it is amazing. BTW, there are excellent fan translation for Shinning Force III Part 2 & 3, Dragon Force 2 and many other RPGs now!

I just bought a Saturn this week. I bought panzer dragoon saga cib mint and sonic jam cib mint for it just these past few days, it was expensive but I think to be able to experience the Saturn it is worth it. I grew up on the N64 and didn't even know about the Saturn as a kid

I Always liked playing Mr. Bones and Brain Dead 13 on the Saturn. Two great games for the Halloween season.

Easily the system I've played the fewest games for. I've played some games that have been ported to other systems like Grandia HD, and Panzer Dragon on the Switch. Would love to see a compilation or mini Saturn released one of these years to try them out.

Nice random vid! Saturn is so underrated and hardly ever talked about

Sega lord X practically dedicated a whole channel mostly talking about it. It’s been getting a lot more recognition this past decade to the point where I don’t know if I’ll even consider it underrated anymore because it’s finally getting it’s proper recognition

@@stevesteve0521 Hardly anyone talks about it at all mate, it is 100%, undeniably, absolutley underrated. One channel dedicated to it doesnt mean it gets its fair shake of recognition.. im sure theres channels dedicated to everything underrated.. it means fairly rated by the wide public majority not 1 person making a dedicated channel

Same with the Master System

@@thetrophysystem3697 you can say that for pretty much any retro console then mate. How many channels are dedicated strictly for snes or nes or sega genesis or n64 or GameCube or ps1? Not that many, retro community is a niche thing to begin with and no the Saturn is not underrated and yes there’s plenty of people talking about it you’re just unaware of them which is fine. Don’t look at console sales and the failure of the console in the North American market and judge a console based on that and call it underrated because of that. The Saturn has been getting its due diligence for a long while now

@@stevesteve0521 wow you made a lot of assumptions there Steve, none of which were relevant, mind. Believe what you want mate, im not debating a mute point with some youtube cranks, you'd have to be pretty out of touch with reality to believe the Saturn is as fairly represented as some other home consoles but whatever mate, bloody weirdos.

Love the saturn, still one of my favorite consoles to play. Nights, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop 1&2, Clockwork Knight, Bug and Bug Too. Also great sports games like Power Play Hockey 95 and the World series baseball series
