I only collected things i like not because they are rare. Mainly my collection is nostalgia for me. I would be regretful too especially if it was something sentimental. If i sold something hopefully be something someone else would cherish , not make more money off it.

I have regretted selling some of my games over the years and it doesn’t always hit you for a long time. Years even. Having said that, as I get older, my regret for getting rid of things gets less and less. As does the feeling of needing to actually have and play a lot of old games I used to love. The memories of them keeps me going.

It genuinely seems like you don't regret selling your collection, that's so cool, so mature, recognizing that you're just accumulating things that no longer make much sense for your life at this point. We can love games and still not need to accumulate so much that we no longer have space at home. I felt very happy to have sold my 3 handhelds last year and I'm satisfied with my few home consoles, with games stored on hard drives or everdrives, that's enough for me. Minimalism is freedom.

Honestly, from the moment when you decide to sell your stuff. I never doubt that you would regret it. I know the choices that you made are the choice you made. No regrets, you did it your way and at the end if you're happy with it. Then that's what matters, and thankfully, the effects haven't happened to you, and even if it did, you would just shrugged it off

Interesting take... or it might be he keeps getting asked about it, or wanted to make a point that people were wrong after they gave him so much grief. Granted, I think most people wouldn't expect regret to come until years later, possibly a decade or more. In any case, I actually really enjoyed this vid, surprisingly more than his normal vids. I guess it's a kind of feel good message when you get down to it. He's happy with his choice (so far), so I'm happy for him

Glad you are happy with your decision and sounds like you're in a better spot for it mentally and in life. I think when people said you would regret it, they thought you were selling the games you grew up with and had memories with, but it sounds like you kept all the games important to you. I know exactly what you mean. I sometimes buy games I know I won't play or have time to play, but I try hard to just buy the games I really care about and am certain on playing. I started to realize that it's just not worth the opportunity cost for other things. On the other hand just the hobby of collecting and game hunting is fun in and of itself. So it goes both ways.

Fast forward a few years and I revisited emulation and boy I'm glad I did. It has come such a long way. Having a front end with my entire library is amazing. Sure it took a long time to curate everything to my liking but it's so worth it. Suits my minimalist lifestyle perfectly.

I'm building my collection to this day as a big Playstation fan working on it as we speak, even working on sega genesis games as well as other consoles I own, I just recently bought a model 1, love it very much I even purchased me my first bookshelf for my games not too long ago and I know for a fact once more games keep on coming ima have to eventually get a bigger shelf, but I can honestly say there's nothing wrong with it as long as you got the extra money for it, to me I look for well taken care of games that come with everything including manual and case as well as best as possible well taken care of discs, usually almost finding brand new can be pretty pricey but they can definitely hold a sentimental value depending on the individual, but all in all I make sure to get mint condition as possible it makes my collection look so beautiful and gives me tons of options on what to play, yes I also love emulation games on other consoles and devices as well, but I still love to preserve my games physically that puts a big smile on my face, it's been one of my sorta childhood dreams and I'm making it happen work in progress, definitely one of my favorite hobbies! But it all comes down depending on the collectors' goals how he or she sees it, love your videos man keep it up, video game nerd for life!

I’m happy for you. I’m a very attached to my stuff, though. Do I need an original Xbox translucent blue controller unopened in a box full of unopened controllers? No. But I’ve tried to declutter in the past and, personally, I’ve generally ended up regretting it. But that’s me. Everybody’s different. Personally, the only reason for having money (aside from security and peace of mind) is to acquire stuff. I’m on a mission to buy all the stuff I couldn’t afford as a kid. Do I need Firefly mint on card? Again, nope. But it reminds me of being a kid in the 80s and 90s and for some reason makes me happy. But I recognize that too much stuff can be a burden, too. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by the amount of games I have and then end up not playing anything. But for the most part, I like having a toy store/ video game museum in my house. I was going to order an expensive blu ray box set of Evangelion, because it has the original ADV English voice actors instead of the new Netflix dub. The box art looked familiar, so I went down to my basement where I have most of my physical media stored (I mostly just use vudu and so forth, now. But I new I’d regret it if I sold off my physical library) and it turns out I bought that box set years ago and forgot. It’s nice to be able to go shopping in your house. My nephew somehow discovered Batman the animated series a couple years ago. I’m not sure where he would have seen it, but regardless, I was like “hey, you like batman the animated series? Check this out.” And I brought up several boxes of unopened DC Direct, animation accurate Batman TAS figures and an extra blu ray box set of the series and mask of the phantasm. I loaded up two shopping bags full of batman stuff for him. You’d think I gave him a corvette. I’m the cool uncle now. All because I’m a compulsive hoarder. So, I guess what I’m saying is, yay materialism!

There was a day when I was lucky to have a half dozen games, would happily toss my system in my school backpack for a weekend with the bros. Since, I've built up a collection I can't keep up with. I don't have time enough to play the hundreds of games I have for probably a dozen consoles.. yes, I would miss having certain titles and some original hardware, however, (as far as "completeness",) I'm CERTAIN I wouldn't miss the collection of sports games I purchased for my Saturn.. seriously, those golf games are painfully buggy and slow. On the other hand my arcade style games and RPGs are comforting places to be. My life is cluttered and when I make the decision (easy or not) that RGT made I'm convinced I would be able to breathe easier. Respect Bro. The spirit of game resides inside you. Cheers 🍻

I live in Japan and have been collecting / reselling for years and since covid, shipping has gone up A LOT and found myself with soooo much crap I can't sell and I don't really care for my collection anymore. The daunting thing is getting rid of it. I don't mind taking a loss to get rid of it a little faster but I also don't want to give it away for nothing. I'm only 38 but I feel like age is catching up to me and want to get rid of my possessions and do what old people do, go for walks and have naps. I think people like us are going to increase more and more and prices will start to decrease with a lot more product on the market.

It allows me to get the retro feeling and all in small boxes. I now have a nice collection of wireless controllers for each of the consoles (and the PC) :) I really do want a Dreamcast Mini but know that will never happen. I do still have my original XBox with 10 games. I won't be getting rid of it. I have not played on anything that came out after it.

That's how I felt about losing my childhood collection and it's why I buy these old games. I loved playing 'em then and I love playing them A LOT more now. Esp. since modern day gaming is a dumpster fire and will be so for decades to come.

@@HoodHussler Ya. The older games were more often than not made with quality in mind. Compared to now where it's all live service this, quick buck that, don't do that amount of bug testing anymore, don't even have the whole game on the disc, etc etc. I consider myself out of modern gaming and only play older games now. Yes I would like modern game design to change for the better. But until it does, I've got my old games! :)

Had this same experinece with classic cars. I grew up working with my dad on some of worlds most expensive cars. I'm 26 now and have had a collection of several dozen classics. I'm moving on now and getting rid of them feels amazing. A lot of people don't realize each car is like getting a new job, and having several jobs sucks.

Yes, I agree. Getting rid of things y9u don't need anymore, I think the freeing feeling comes partly from having less responsibility to worry about, and partly from less obligation to use something/get value out of it which often requires spending time on it, since not getting value/use out of something creates a kind of low level stress/guilt. Maybe it's also the act of successfully concluding something.

There is no way you don't regret it. There are so many memories attached to those games. You'll blow through that money in a couple years and then have nothing .

Recently. Our family "got rid of" our game collection by giving it away to our other siblings. And to be honest I don't miss it. Any game that we had. I can probably emulate. Emulation has gotten so good over the years it is honestly amazing. You can emulate anything from the 80s. All the way to now and anything in between. Now, it may not be as good but it's still fun to do so. Plus it gets rid of much needed space which is nice. Sometimes though I wonder how much those things are worth. I was lucky enough to keep our ps2 :D

Should have a yearly clean out. Just sell X amount and get rid of it but for a more hearty price. Clutter will = anxiety. Don't realize it until your helping someone with their stuff or you have to box your stuff up and move

I have my consoles from my NES I bought when I was a child up to the last console I bought which was the PS4 I don't play them, I don't really game much now and I have a lot of the games (at least the earlier generations) as ROMs. It's not only the games taking up space but it's the consoles and controllers and other accessories. I am tempted just to sell a lot of it on because it is taking up space. There are things like the NES zapper (but I don't have a CRT TV anymore) and accessories like the PS Move and cameras which I couldn't really emulate but then I haven't used them in years I did this with my Funko Pops which I have sold a lot of. I binned the boxes as I wasn't an in-box collector but decided I didn't really need them and I hadn't paid a lot for most of them

I would have just kept the 32x games. I sold mine almost 2 decades ago and that is my only selling regret. The only reason is there are some fun games I played that are stuck to that console and they are expensive now.

You know what, everythig comes and goes. As you will eventually have to let go of things it is often best not to get too attached to stuff for real. If you can be happy with few possessions and people in your life, that will make you really powerful. The root of all suffering is desire, so letting go of attachments to stuff is a great mindfulness or even "spiritual" practise.

A lot of this "de-cluttering" "minimalistic movement" is posible thanks to technology (streaming, digital photos, emulation, etc.). Twenty years ago, you couldn't get rid of your VHS, DVD, or gaming collection without letting go those memories forever. So, I don't thing that RGT 85, could do this in the early 2000s. Technology has allowed him to get rid of everything. Without emulation, he will not do it.

Lately I’ve been tweaking game collections on my Retropi and digital games on Switch and Xbox One. And barely play any games. But I’ve been selling my extra consoles and sold off my comics (now I have more on my Kindle than I had physical). We as men, (and women) love the pursuit of the hunt. But once we have that game, there it sits on the shelf of conquest…..and collects dust
