It depends what you want from a car. M140i more grown up, nice whip but a tad bland. Type R is very in your face but has smiles per gallon the bmw can't get close too. My assumption is you have never been in a type R. It has the best damping of a road car since the Clio Trophy. FACT!

People are so bothered by the badge of a car these days it’s so crazy and boring it’s ifs not a BMW, Audi or Mercedes they say it’s a downgrade it’s mental to me how boring some people are. Great looking car in my opinion I would love one.

to be fair when it comes to the popularity bmw and mercedes make RWD which is the main drive for getting one for the majority of people, plus the older ones were extremely reliable which gained them a lot of popularity and both were light years ahead of the game when it came to things like infotainment and luxuries and excellent build quality. audi are very popular because they are basically an uprated VW also because they spent good money on the suspension fitting multi link systems which the civic has only just done with this shape, ford is another popular car for the reason it has multi link suspension. there are a lot of reasons people go for these cars and in my opinion they are right to do so, when it comes to cars its a bit like this: ford/vw(because best FWD suspension) < audi (best fwd suspension, luxury and class) < bmw (because RWD) < mercedes (because RWD + luxury)

@@djorksolo8544 To clarify : . NSX was costing 20k more when brand new . Japanese cars are not more reliable , theres so many variables you need to be immature to make such a bald statement. Im tracking cars for more than a decade , japanese , germans , .... they all have their own problems. Theyre all fantastic in their own right too . M3 being a pinnacle of saloon/coupe class , NSX being built primarily to hunt supercars of that era . Both of these fine cars do better , worse times to each other depending on the layout . Theres no need to be negative towards any car , as each of them suits specifically for a individual and his needs at that time. I think the Type R will definitely much better in terms of depreciation. You don't buy a new bimmer and expect it to hold its value unless it's a VERY limited edition model, like the 1M. Great color btw!

Used to own a manual Volvo C30, now have been driving the Civic Si for the last four years. Although the car got 20 HP less but the engine and transmission are so smooth and the car has so much fun once the VTEC kicks in. I honestly don't feel the loss of horsepower at all! The Si is so much more reliable and requires only oil and filter change really. It costs so little to maintain the vehicle, only a small fraction of the maintenance cost of my Volvo before. It's a bang for the buck sports car. I have no regret of "upgrading" my European car with this Japanese car! Kudo to you!

Great choice, ignore the melts they are just bitter because you traded a very good hot hatch in the beemer for the clear best in class. Badge snobs will cry till the cows come home but the FK8 is the better, far more practical daily and it wipes the floor on a set of mountain roads or track with the flawed half baked M140i 😂 There’s a reason the FK8 is winning all the awards, setting hot hatch record lap times and getting rave reviews.

M140i is a very good car but it suffers dynamically compared to the best hot hatches because it is a compromised design, Namely in its suspension and wheel setup. All M-Division cars come with a considerably wider track, wider bespoke lightweight wheels and generally again completely bespoke suspension. The M140i (and the M135i before it) doesn’t have any of that, it’s sat on the same suspension as the rest of the 1 Series range (firmed up) and comes with (relatively) skinny tyres and no diff (though it’s an optional extra). It means that whilst they do generally handle well and are a comfy car they start to fall apart around corners when being pushed hard. Think of them as a very quick GT hatch as opposed a raw hot hatch and they make sense. A close friend just traded his M140i for an M2 and after getting to drive both around the Peak District in the U.K. the difference is night and day as an all round package and how they can tackle corners, the M2 is on another level for sharpness and dynamics. I would however recommend the M140i as one of my top 3 hot hatches if anyone was to ask, it’s a rapid, great daily with one corker of an engine.

People are always quick to hate on the new Type R because of the looks. I agree, i'm not a huge fan of the looks but there is no denying it is the best hot hatch out there right now. People who get butt hurt about it have never driven a Type R. People hate on every other car out there without having driven any others. IMO you've made the right move. And before people claim i'm just another Honda fanboy, i'm not. Look forward to seeing some updates.

Mate I think its a great change, it's the no1 hot hatch in the world for good reason. much more fun than the BMW. Screw the brand haters, I like cars for the driving pleasure. Ive got a modified 1973 911 RS Rep and a 2005 Lotus Elise turbo with 430hp but I still would love a type r, an old starlet with a 4age20v, ae86, e30 etc all bare bones basic but the sheer thrill to drive. I own the same car and I love it. Smart move. BMWs are "me too" cars. Not to mention after 50,000 miles, the maintenance is ridiculous and they begin falling apart. You've got yourself in a very unique hot hatch, which has been registered as the fastest front-wheel drive car in the world. ENJOY.

I work at honda and i get to drive these beauties on a daily basis and these are little pocket rockets and the grip on them is absolutely phenomenal. You can throw it into a corner at any speed and it will just sail through with no problem! Best little hot hatch ever..

there is a lot of hate on this car, the looks are a bit polarizing but why settle for boring, I tried the Veloster and the Merc A250, the Velostor altho quite cool on the outside had a nasty interior, seats rock hard, the Merc detailing is better but I just hated the 7 speed paddle, there is no engagement driving the car and seats also rock hard, I chose the Type R, as soon as I drove it I loved it, yea it looked a bit like a dogs dinner anf I think the best color is the polished metal as everything blends through better, that being said its not a patch on my Porsche V8 but that was costing me sooo much to maintain

Would you believe I average 19-20mpg in my daily commute in traffic and 26mpg on highway drives in my 2017 Camaro SS manual ? My first car was a 1990 Honda Civic Si in white that I bought new in June 1990 and loved it to death. I think if the Type R didn't have so may tacked on body bits and all the red interior parts, I'd consider one. Crazy thing is that it doesn't get any better gas mileage than my SS.

A man after my own heart and it was great to hear some of the more practical/financial implications and choices. I do fewer miles, I'm older (cheap insurance on everything) and still picked the Type R over a lot nice cars. I love the looks, I parked next to an Aventador the other day and it felt at home. You can't really compare the two in anything other than Top Trumps terms, but the Honda didn't look out of place. I've only seen one other on the road, also black, in a year. I specced in the extra top rear spoiler on the GT spec car and I think it looks good enough that it should have been standard (if that makes sense). I'm repeating myself, I say the same thing on too many Type R videos so I'll shut up. I just really like it.

It was NOT a production car, it was stripped out, had no media system, pro driver, roll cage, track special tyres, uprated suspension, etc and that’s all we know. It's a perfectly good choice. I own an older 1 series 260ps, and an even older Honda Prelude. The only thing I enjoy about the BMW is the RWD. The Prelude is slower, but more pleasant to drive for me, because of more compliant suspension and much smoother controls and shifter.

I did consider a few similar hot hatches, TypeR, S3, GolfR etc, but the Civic had too many fake bits of tat stuck to it for my taste (each to their own), the Golf was boring, the S3 too understeery. Good choice mate, i fell into the hyp with an M140i, got it at Motech for the stance, maxton, remus cat back and fitted a jb+. I think it lacked a proper diff and i couldn't get my head around spending another £2.5k on a mp lsd. It just felt quick in a straight line that's about it, boring and too smooth! FK8 is a great choice mate!

No M140 cost £37k new! I had a fully spec’d one and I paid £28k for it new ordered from the factory in 2017. I did trade it in a year later for an M2 though which I had to fork out a lot more for. But the depreciation on the M140 was only about £2k - after a year and 12,000 miles. Not nearly as bad as you described. I do like the type R though and did consider one. But I think that will depreciate much faster then the BMW ever would. Considering the FK2 type R was £32K new for a GT spec a couple of years ago, you can pick them up from Honda dealers starting from £18K now. I will bet that that the Fk8 goes the same way much quicker then the M140. In terms of driving though the Fk8 is supposedly immense and I’ve seen a couple of them on track at Brands, they seem to be glued to the tarmac in the corners!

Long term an FK8 will be worth far more money than the over saturated M140 / M135 market. They’re giving them M-Lites away 🤣🤣🤣 Yes it’s not quite as quick as an M140 but it’s far more engaging, unique and has without doubt a better built engine and manual transmission. The Mal your GMFV is determined by the mileage of the car. If you do more than agreed a mileage charge will apply

Totally agree that most of the German cars these days have lost that driver feel unless you're bombing it around. I have the Golf R and it's great but lacks fun at lower speeds whereas the Civic type Rs I've had, although not as quick have been barrels more fun! You can't please everyone and BMW drivers love Beamers and so on. This video for sure has made me think about getting the Type R in future, thanks!

A quick question. I love the look of the car and everything about it. However, the tyres are my biggest issue. Unfortunately where I live, there are quite a few speed bumps and potholes. How does this car handle those especially with those tyres?

M140 is a beast als Stock, with stage 2 you have MORE than 450hp

Golf R owner here, for long term ownership I have reasons for sticking with that choice. However if I had to pick a hatch for a few months ownership it would definitely be the Type R. In 2 years I have seen just 3 in the flesh and they make me swoon I'll be honest.

Congrats on the new car! Was looking at one myself a month or so ago. Only thing that stopped me was how much it stands out particularly parking on the street in London. Saying that, I’d still love one! Who knows what’ll happen next year.

I'm sure there are a lot of M140's out there but I don't see many maybe because they don't stand out. I have seen more Type R's around but then you can't really miss them. Once you add on a lot of extra Halfords like spoiler's , splitters , fins it will stand out, just like my neighbours son's 1.2 Corsa. If that's what you want it's your choice .

Neaver had a m140i but i had a m135i.. and got a shot of the prev type r round a track that would have shat all over a m lite, yeah there fast cars the bmw's ++ but people get caught up with the streight line speed, handling a type r will eat it

Childish looking car, i enjoyed hot wheels cars until i was 12 and if i saw this Type R in that time i think i would like it but now i am not a kid anymore, now my joy is not hot wheels but hot hatches. If we are going to talk about hot hatches you can start with, Renault Megane RS, for me the best FWD car in the planet.

Truly a car on paper is just little bits for the imagination but when you actually drive a car you know it. Saying a car excites you but not saying what and how is rather vague . Drive a car if you would like in order to get entertained and educated! Touch it and inspect it.

So I've been following Real Torque for a while now and he was pretty much the reason I went with an M140i initially he loved the car but I never felt like he was IN love with the car. When you drive everyday you need to think about more than just does this car look nice, I work in central london and have an M140 as a weekend car. If I drove everyday I would not be able to justify the M140. The Honda works for MR O. So respect his decision and move on. Irrespective of the fact that some may not agree with his decision, you are also not him. So respect his decision! Bottom line is whatever content this guy releases is spot on. He will be bigger than a lot of youtubers doing car reviews. Why? Because he is a normal guy driving mid range cars talking from the heart!

Awww man..... ur reviews were one of the reasons I bought my M140!! Lol I'm a lot older than u, so luckily my insurance is only £370 a year! I am doing mostly town driving just now and trip computer is showing 20.6mpg, so agree the fuel consumption is heavy. I love the speed, sound and solid feel though, so u can't have everything I suppose? It's also the first time I've had an auto box, and I must admit, I am loving it, even though I didn't think I'd ever buy one. I'll miss ur class reviews on the M140, but ur new car is amazing too, I hope u enjoy it as much as the BMW mate! 👍

Excellent upgrade over the M140i. Civic is a more capable car, particularly on track. M140i needs an LSD.

@@steverogers6921 The Type R is not a drop down over a M140i, it's an upgrade. The M140i is not even a full blown 'M' Car, it's not an M2, M3/M4 is it? You should read some Automotive Journalism. Autocar magazine has lovely comparison of the Civic Type R vs BMW M140i which you might find interesting :).

@@danielzychniewicz2633 the Civic Type R is better on the road as a daily too. Comes with a 5 year warranty also. As for the comment 'Honda has no prestige', I suggest you should read a book about the History of Honda and learn how successful they are :).

I would never buy a brand new car exactly because of depreciation. Thats an absolutely insane ammount over 14 months to lose.

Almost same reason why I got rid of my f30 335 and got a 6mt 370z. I’m a much more happier person.

Arguments: fuel consumption, depreciation, too many around, regrets not getting a manual version, burnt too many tires, auto gear box made trouble (again), insurance... Just for comparison, i got a manual in the first place i don't have a tire & fuel consumption problem because i use my M140i responsibly. Summer tires just did their second season (12k km) and there is still a lot tread left.

Your car, your choice. Just keep motoring 🙂👍🏼 Type R is not for me just based on looks [I have never driven one]; I prefer something more subtle. I’ve heard plenty of good things about them though! Ultimately, if you’re happy with your choice then that’s all that matters. Not sure how many subs you lost but keep putting out great vids and you’ll get those numbers back 👍🏼
