Enjoyed your video. I'm fascinated by car living - much more stealth than a van. I use my suv for car camping. I enjoy the challenge of making a small space a home away from home. I just bought a cargo carrier that fits in the back hitch of my suv. Can't wait to get on the road again. Oh. by the way - I'm 73 years old - which goes to show car camping is do-able and enjoyable at any age.

I lived in my van for nine months and I really worked on my mindset relative to what society has to say about other people’s lives. I’ve concluded that no one in our society is in a position to judge anyone else. Not one of us is perfect, or lives a perfect life. If we each committed to tend to our own affairs, we have more that a full time undertaking. You do you😊 and let others do themselves.

In my home in the winter so I don't have to use the AC heat as it's electric I cover myself with a Sherpa blanket and I will be moving into a vehicle in the fall and I have used a small Sherpa blanket when staying overnight in parking at casinos. The bigger Sherpa blanket will wrap around better for winter nights.

I’m thinking of car living. I’ve been doing research and it seems everything I find was Van living. I own a 2016 outback and was trying to figure out how I could actually live and work out of it without buying a van. Thank you so much for this tour. You provided me with some inside full no need to get rid of my seats ideas. Great video.

He doesn’t have a toilet and he doesn’t have a cat. A Subaru is easier than a Rav. Rav seats do not fold flat. I bought a Rav for reliability so have a bump and a slope in the bed. It was uncomfortable to sleep in. I’m 70 and it was really hard to maneuver inside with the three drawer plastic chest of drawers. I’m replacing them with transparent bags that I can grab and easily move out of the way or get things out of. I got bruised on the hard storage. I see he took out the bottom drawer, using containers instead which is a good idea especially to store things that you aren’t going to use all the time. I couldn’t pull the bottom drawer out because the bed was in the way. Here is my set up: My cat carrier and litter box pretty well took up the front passenger side of the car. I have both my back seats folded down. Toilet on the floor behind the drivers seat. Bed behind the passenger seat. Clean Cat litter on the back passenger floor under the top of the bed. Clothes on top of that. Clean in a duffle bag and dirty in a laundry bag. These things support the top of the bed. Something to put on my feet by the side of the door. I have a table that goes between the wheel wells and up over the bottom of the bed over my feet down by the hatch.. It has extendable legs for more height when I take it out for my kitchen. In the car it gives more storage. I put my pantry on top of it and my Jackery and collapsed camp chair and tie them all down. Then I can still put things under the table also when I’m driving. (The table also folds up). Almost all my other things were in the plastic chest of drawers like in the video. I’m thinking of getting a van but don’t know for sure since gas is so expensive. It would be so much easier and neater with a van. I almost bought a Subaru but they didn’t have a used one that was 2020 or younger. I had a Toyota Tercel before and had excellent luck with it so that’s why I got the Rav 4. But I do envy the fold flat seats of the Subaru.
@Dustandfuzz
@Dustandfuzz 7 ай бұрын
Oh my toilet is inside at night and outside in the privacy tent in the daytime. Works well for me except maneuvering to get to it in the car, but probably will be easier next time with the bags.

Storing items in packing cubes or bags sound better as you can use them for pillows or squish into odd spaces or to even out the space when seats are folded down.

Keep it simple … as this is, nice. Thanks for sharing! When I was between 9 and 14 years old, my uncle would always ask my parents if they would allow me to accompany him on roadtrips during summer vacations. We would take 3 or 4 days, sometimes more traveling in a car. He taught me how to properly read a paper map (legend, symbols) and how to manually equate MPGs, distance to destination etc, etc. He made it fun. Not once do I recall, oddly enough, ever staying in a hotel or finding a campground or place to park for the night. He would just pull over, wherever he was, recline in the seat. I would curl up in the back with a blanket and pillow. I never once questioned it. I thought that was the way everyone did it. I always had a grand time. I’m 65 now … I’ve had plenty of different kind of vehicles, cars, trucks, SUVs, vans (many VW buses). I’ve kept my uncles tradition … completed the continental US, most all Canadian provinces and some of Mexico. Most of my European travel experiences have been by car but I’ve mixed it up a bit to include trains, ferries, buses etc. and of course airplanes. Thanks for sharing your personal travel experiences … enjoyed it much and takes me back …

I lived in a 1985 Honda Accord across a long road trip, maybe 35-40 days. I detached the passenger seat and turned it to face the other way, allowing me to fully lie flat when I slept. I ended up cutting two pieces of 3/4 in plywood and two little 2x4 frames ti create a flat living surface. My head would be on the pillow under the hatch back window, staring at the stars.

I love your channel, Bren. Your attitude is great given the fact that a bunch of things are more difficult to do living in a vehicle vs. living in a building (as if I need to tell you!). You really managed to figure out all the ins and outs of living in a small vehicle, off-grid, in a place with very cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers. Hats off to you! I may in a few years end up living in a minivan full time for financial reasons, and I take a lot of inspiration from you. I'm quite a bit older than you. BTW, I really respect how devoted you are to your son!

This is very similar to my setup. I'm in a Citroen c3 picasso. The back seats split 60/40. My dog's bed is on the 40 side, behind the drivers seat. The 60 side goes flat at night, and I use a futon with sleeping bag and duvet. The passenger seat has to be pulled as far forwards as possible and I use my cool box in the gap behind to rest the futon and pillow on. I'm 5'5" so I can just stretch out. The rear parcel shelf acts as a table. My Jackery sits behind the drivers seat with my toilet bag and night bag. Behind the dog's seat I have all my camping equipment/clothes etc. I use corrugated plastic sheets to make my window covers from. They sit flat under the futon during the day. In day mode, I have a rear seat cover and this is flipped over the front seats at night to give me privacy. I raise the front two head rests to cut the front area off from the back. I don't use a windscreen cover.

Much better to wrap the reflectix with black felt (lessens glare) it's also less seen when the window covers are directly against the windows snuggly. The felt can also make them more snug fitting and stay in place. Can always add small magnets as well that terms to hook well to the steel of the door frame. I made my relectixs so well people just thought it was heavy tinting 😅 I also did some with matt black spray paint but i find after awhile it'll start to chip and scratch on the reflectix. Magnets and black felt can easily be found cheaply even at the dollar store as well

Super loved this video! I reckon you could do some how to videos: How to solve the toilet issue How to stay clean How to stay warm How to stay safe How to keep mentally healthy How to keep fit living in your car How to solve the no fridge issues Maybe also another video of how to see living in a car more positively (for those who didn't want to or were forced into it) and maybe even ways of connecting with other car lifers. What I'd love to see is some collab with other car lifers like you, Bren who sort of had to live in their car to get ahead on debt etc). Maybe like a "Chillin' with Bren" video where you just get to know these people and kind of film it as "fly on the wall" style. Glad you're doing well, my man!❤🐢🐢🐢🐢

Arenges. 🍊 😍 I haven't heard it pronounced that way since moving away from NJ in 1985. Have been between CO, MO, and KS (back to CO) since then and it's definitely a full on o in orange out here. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I lived out of my outback for a bit but couldn’t do the summer. If i ever have to, I’ll definitely try some of your setup.

Yeah I don't know how people do it in summer in town. Lots of van lifers go to the mountains in summer. One lady in TX slept parked by a marina and git a breeze off the water...still seems too hot to me.

tinted windows is a must for me even though i dont live in my car.. the privacy from prying eyes.. tinted windows bring more stealthy living i would assume in a small vehicle like yours

Great video was really inspired as looking to get out of an abusive relationship which may sound wierd as a guy in an abusive relationship but been thinking how do I set up car living as don’t have any know how when it comes to diy. Will probably rewatch multiple times to keep inspiring. Take care

Thank you so much for your video. You showed everything very well. I like that you have just the necessary things and everything is very organized. I liked the most, that this is a NO-Built, that is easier for me to do. I've been thinking for years in taking a van (now I can see I ca use an SUV!!!) ang take a summer to go all around the US to visit my nieces and nephews. Since I work online on my own business, I think is a great time to do it. Thank you again for your video.
